Phil's DIY

เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 8 ส.ค. 2019
I do a lot of DIY projects around the house and on my car. I try to make videos while I'm doing this, to show how something, is done, or how I did that particular something. Mostly for entertainment, but if my videos help you with your projects, then I'm happy.
Some of my videos may have links to the products used in that project, and I may receive commissions for products that are purchased after clicking those links.

Leaking Kohler Kitchen Faucet - FIXED!!
My Kohler kitchen faucet (Model R648-VS) developed a leak where the spray head attaches to the hose. Kohler covered the part under warranty, and sent me a new one (after having sent the wrong one initially!).
This video shows the replacement steps that I took. Enjoy!

Overhauling my Pentair IntelliFlo Variable Speed Pool Pump
มุมมอง 682 หลายเดือนก่อน
I did a complete overhaul of my Pentair pool pump - replacing all the seals, gaskets, and O-rings, because the pump had started getting too much air in the system and ran dry a couple times. After I finished, I noticed a lot of air still entering the system, and traced it to a leaking valve on the suction side, and once I replaced the O-ring on that valve, the air leakage stopped. Descaling and Flushing a Noritz Tankless Water Heater
มุมมอง 2802 หลายเดือนก่อน
I confess that I never ran a descaling operation on my tankless water heater in the 12 years that it's been on my house. I decided I really should do something about this problem, and here is my video showing how I did it. I have a Noritz NR981-OD, which is rated at 199,900 BTU, and 7.5 GPM. I believe the current equivalent model is the NR98-OD, and it's available in either Natural Gas or Liqui...
Replacing a Schlage Electronic Keypad Lock Set
มุมมอง 817 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've had this Schlage Electronic Keypad Lock Set on the door to my garage without any problem for nearly 12 years, and a few months ago the key pad was starting to act up, so I replaced it with a new one. It's a model FE595, and it's available at Amazon at the following link: amzn.to/3UA6atN
Replacing the Battery Pack in a DJI Osmo Mobile 2
มุมมอง 2.6K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
My DJI Osmo Mobile 2 handheld gimbal for smartphones stopped charging, so after trying the obvious things like different chargers and charge cables, I concluded the battery back must be bad. I looked on youtube for others who had a similar issue, and saw what I needed to try it myself. I had a couple of mishaps along the way, but at the end of the day I got my gimbal working. I ordered the 7.2V...
I fixed a leak in the Delta Tub/Shower single handle faucet.
มุมมอง 5Kปีที่แล้ว
Slow drip leak was seen in the tub, so I ordered a new cartridge and replaced the old one that was almost 12 years old. The part was Delta Faucets part no. 46074 and there were a lot of vendors on Amazon and ebay selling aftermarket replacements. I tried one that was pretty low priced, but you get what you pay for - it didn't give full water flow, and the hot/cold mixing was pretty bad. Here's ...

I appreciate this video for the RAV4. Thanks!
I just purchased/installed this exact NORITZ tankless water heater. Has this unit been trouble free ? Thanks for posting this video
Hi there, My unit has been 100% trouble free. Amazing, since as I mentioned in the video, I had not done the descaling/flush in the 12 years that I've had it.
Thank you for the video Phil, I am going to do the same thing. Do you think this filter big enough for a med size pool?
Hi, Honestly I have no idea what a "med size pool" looks like, so I suggest you use the Penair pool volume calculator: www.pentair.com/en-us/pool-spa/education-support/homeowner-support/calculators/pool-volume-calculator.html and once you have a rough idea of how much water you have, you then need to factor in the pump you have (or will have) to determine how much water that pump can push through the system. And then, and only then, you can determine what size filter you should get. Good luck, and please update this comment once you've done your project! Thanks for watching!
@@PhilsDIY Thanks Phil, for the calculator just found out we have 17,000 gal pool. Now I can start shopping.

I changed out my map lights and curious if yours light up when you open the door but in a low/dim setting if the car is not running. If i leave the door open and turn on the rav they get brighter as they should be
Hi, I had to go and try this, and yes the light does get brighter when I put the car in Ready mode, with doors open - but not by much. I have never noticed this before, since I hardly ever turn it on with the doors open. Thanks for pointing this out!
Thank You, Phil , very much for sharing this tool design, smart Man!
I've been in the home repair business for 54 years. My start was with old homes. I've never been able to work in shorts. Good job on your door sill. Never an easy job.
Haha! It was a hot day, and I probably shouldn't have worn shorts since I needed to be on my knees a lot on this one! Thanks for your comments!
Thanks
Great vid!
Can this be done if the nut is stripped?
Can I connect the red “ignition wire “to positive battery?
Probably not a good idea, since you could accidentally leave the light on when the car is not in Ready mode, killing the battery.
@@PhilsDIY which fuse under the steering wheel should I use?
I guess that depends on what you want to connect there. I don't know what you're trying to do, so I'm not comfortable directing you to a particular connection point. But generally if you're looking to draw more than about 5 amps, you probably should go to the main fuse block either in the engine compartment, or in the trunk next to the 12V battery. Your comment is in the fog light video, and if you're trying to install fog lights, you definitely need to do your wiring in the engine compartment, including using the relay that would have come with the kit.
@@PhilsDIY ok thank you. Also fog light bulbs says 55watts, is that each or both ?
Can i use bike tube rubber instead of that teflon
I honestly don't know - I guess you could try it and if it stops the leak, you're good!
TOO MUCH SUBWOOFER!!!!🤣
Sounds ok to me! I'll check future videos for audio equalization. It's the same microphone I've used in other videos...
Only thing that's different is I upgraded my computer OS from Win 10 to 11. I wonder if the new OS has a different audio profile...
Thanks for the video. I have been wondering if you still had your Prime. Our 21 Prime has over 34K miles. Its been a good vehicle.
Mine is still only around 26K miles... Thanks for watching my channel!
Hi Phil can u add parking sensors for this car . With the original car program ?
Honestly I have no idea. Logic tells me it's not possible, but who knows?
Does the wheel well trim have to come off?, I don't see anywhere that it attaches to the felt. The screws maybe, but do you need to pull trim off?
If you mean the plastic trim, yes, you should take it off in order to get the well lining off enough to access the space behind the bumper where the light needs to go. If you don't take off the trim, you can't get the lining out of the way.
Nice video and good instructions. I also have to commend you that this is really the first video where the owner also has a nice tidy trunk, and also the plastics in the trunk are not all scratched up. And congratulations on a nice car. I ordered my RAV4 a month ago, and I'll supposedly wait another 4-5 months. Have a nice day.
Thanks! haha, the car was practically brand new hence the clean trunk and plastic! I have some scuffs and scrapes on the plastic now. Congrats on getting yours!
@@PhilsDIY Hi, I ordered a RAV4 Prime (PHEV) in exactly the same colour as yours. I want to ask you if you have registered information about a problem called "RAV4 cablegate" where corrosion occurs at the end of the high voltage cable leading to the rear electric motor. Have you looked at the condition of this high voltage cable termination on your car? Have a nice day.
Thanks!
That’s the wrong saw. Buy yourself a good oscillating saw. Thank me later.
Matter of fact, I did indeed buy an oscilating saw not too long after this video was made! Along with a grinder. My tool collection just continues to grow... Thanks for your tip!
Some gloves too
Thank you for sharing this with the world. I will be working under the house and can't justfy spending $300 on a crawl cart. We already spending money with water line repair.
it worked for me! thanks!
Great!
Great video man. I was wondering where did you you get the hardware kit? When I ordered my G850 it did not come with that
Thanks for watching! That power kit is available as an optional kit from Wolfbox - "Dashcam Multifunctional Hardwire Kit" which is the first item in the "Select Addons" section on the right side of the product page.
Well it probably works but looks like shit, definitely a homeowner diy. If you’re ever interested in doing it the right way, pull the jamb and sill and cut back the stucco. Flash the sill, replace the sill, install the frame, hang the door and trim the door flush with your stucco cut line.
You might know what you're doing but my videos are not what's the best way to do something - just how I did that something. You might think it looks bad (not stooping to your language) but it looks great to me.
Where did you get those tires
Hi, I got them at Harbor Freight
Why cant these be added to the hybrid cars
They can't?? I would think you could...
hi there. in your experience. what do you think is the best option to install the rear camera? inside or outside of my rav4?
Hi Alfredo, Thanks for watching my video! The Rav4 Prime come with tinted glass on the rear hatch, so I felt that would make the rear view quality poor, and that's why I put it outside next to the built-in camera. I do think some people don't like to drill through the body so they just put it inside and live with the lower quality video.
Muchas Gracias fue un éxito, solucioné el problema, necesitaba una persona muy técnica como UD … Un Abrazo.
Thanks for the video!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!

Need more details on the wiring . Ebay send me the wrong wiring harness. Can't connect that easy like you do???
Sorry to hear they sent you the wrong harness. Were you able to resolve this issue? Return/replace/refund?
The third wire, in the middle of the pack, is for balancing the cells. So they charge equally.
I dont think so. That middle wire is in the middle of the two batteries that are in SERIES. When measured with that point being treated as ground, one end is negative, the other is positive. There is no way this could be used to balance the cells, as that requires the cells to be wired in parallel so that they have the same voltage, eventually equalizing them. Thanks for your comment though just the same. Cheers!
@PhilsDIY if the batteries are in parallel, they don't need balancing, they balance themselves. But if they are in series, you need a charger that knows the state of charge of each and one of them to know when to stop charging one and keep charging the other.
Nice job 👍
Thank you!
Do these light up when you open the door with the car off? Both driver door & the other 3 doors?
Hi, sorry this is late - but no, they only light up when the car is on.
This is what I’m looking for, add a hook to it and now you can pull things in it under the house
Cool‼️thanks you 👍🏼
Finally got my kick sensor install today. Instead of using Mercury switch i used relay connected hatch light instead and it work
I am trying to use a 5 pin bosch relay but the hatch light doesn't provide enough volts to trigger the switch. What is your relay wiring setup?
Hi Phil what is the green wire trigger +ve or -ve or what signal would trigger hatch to open
Green wire to ground is what triggers it
Nice video, thanks for sharing
Thanks for visiting!
LASFIT BULB 😮 IS BETTER
Thank you, the only video solution that works for the map lights for my UK RAV4 with Moonroof. Thank you
do you have any of these mercury switches left? They are no longer on Amazon
I think i do, let me check later. How many do you need? I actually went through 4 for my kick sensor project. 1 got damaged, and i had to replace 1 about a year after install due to faulty action.
Thanks for the great video !
Nice setup. Any particular reason why you got the Zooms battery ? (Now Redodo) Also your charge controller may not be for LiFePo4 batteries and may damage the battery over time so you should double check on that. Greetings from Jamaica.
Ok, just saw your other video where you upgraded your charge controller to the all in one unit. Great work!
Thanks for your comments! I chose the Zoom after I saw Will Prowse did a tear down review on it and he concluded it was actually a solid battery. I got the second one about a year later, after the company changed its brand to Redodo. Actually, that first charge controller died after less than a year - bad solder joints. I did a short video on that. Then, I upgraded to a different 12V charge controller, and it was after that I got the second battery and then eventually the all in one. The original charge controller claimed to be compatible with LiFePo4 but ultimately it failed due to the bad solder joints. I did fix that one so now I have TWO 12V charge controllers and a 1KW inverter on my shelf ! LOL.
@@PhilsDIY great! Thanks for the update. I am currently running one 100ah Power Queen LiFePo4, a 60amp Li Time Charge controller and 1000 watts in panels. It supplies approx half my home power here in Jamaica.
that drilled hole with cut the wire over time from vibration. You want to add a grommet or something to protect the camera wire.
Thanks, Phil. Got mine done!
Great video Phil, I appreciate it!
Hi, would u mind sharing the battery specs, and where to get one, im from the Philippines. Thanks
Hi, the original battery inside this unit was 2 pcs LR1865SK, Lithium Ion 2600 mAh, soldered in series (neg of one tied to pos of the other). The device uses +3.7V and -3.7V for controlling the motors. I got the replacement from Amazon, and found one that had the batteries already soldered together the way I needed: amzn.to/4aJzvYe just be careful when handling the battery leads and avoid doing what I did in the video!
My damn wheel well has these annoying tabs that dont seem to pop no matter how much i pry at them and without doing that im unable to run cable into the cabin. Any suggestions?
Can you show me a photo of these tabs?
you did not have to aim the lights? I did not see any adjustment knobs in the video?
I honestly don't remember adjusting the aim on these...
Thank you for sharing this video. Did you notice any mechanical differences on the underside of the AliExpress assemblies, compared to the original assemblies that you replaced? I ordered an aftermarket driver's-side lit window switches assembly and it was mechanically inferior to the original part. In at least one area, the OEM part was one molded piece, whereas the replacement aftermarket part was made from two separately molded, loosely connected, pieces. They rattled when I shook the assembly. I ended up reinstalling my original, unlit assembly.
I don't recall any such inferior quality in the one I got. Once I screwed it into the bracket it seemed pretty solid.
Fortunately the one that I got directly from Toyota (for the 2022 Camry, I think) works great and is rock-solid in terms of build quality. Jan
