Cold Winter is like Soldier of Fortune crossed with Goldeneye 007. Really enjoyed it, shame it remains trapped on the PS2. Maybe Nightdive Studios could remaster Cold Winter. About time lots of great 2000s FPS games get rereleased too.

5:40 Drakan: Order of the Flame was definitely way ahead of its time.. Back then (1999) the adventure genre was dominated by Zelda clones and RPG lite adventure game hybrids. However, it's immersive first person 3D gameworld, and of course being able to fly on a dragon, was very unique at the time. Drakan is perhaps my favorite adventure game of all time. However, I just beat it again recently (after not playing it in well over a decade at least) and thought that the graphics still hold up rather well.

To be honest, although I love a good hack-and-slash, I also do enjoy games for their stories so that's why I love these kinds of games. Sadly, I never got to play this game back in the day but if I ever get the chance I certainly will. when I was a kid, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance was one of my favorite games, but I never could find a copy of Champions of Norrath. Thankfully eBay is a thing now lol

I didn't grow up playing a lot of games because my family couldn't afford them, but I had a rich uncle who occasionally lent me his PSP. This is one of the games there and I loved it ♡ I played as a female berserker. Thank you for this vid! I was feeling nostalgic so I looked it up. Maybe I'll play it again on an emulator soon.

Honestly, it seems like it has a lot of potential, I'm surprised ROM hackers haven't fixed and improved it where possible.

(EDIT: Wrote this before properly watching the video, apologies) There's a sequel too called Shifters, or Shifters of Might & Magic. has some interesting things, like the titular Shifting into different creatures that offer unique spells, and the transformations themselves having three levels of upgrading. A number of upgrade points are hidden around the world. Every one of these levels gives a different new form to the creature. For example, starting out with Beastman, you start as a goat person, Lvl.2 is a jaguar woman with a staff, but at lvl. 3 you can choose to either become a Melee- or Magic- oriented role. (in the Beastmen case, an eagle person and elephant person, respectively) Transformations fall off quickly when you get a new one thoug. And since spells are not *exclusive* to the transformations (from what i remember), you can probably play the game with minimal transformations. It's a pity because the concept is interesting and all creatures have unique animations to them. Some of the spells get used for traversal and/or puzzles too. Beastmen give the "return home" spell, Deathborn are immune to poison (not so much a spell but something innate), Djinn can become fog to pass through stuff like grates and bars and i believe float over some gaps, the steampunk robots can kind of "teleport" between connection points which is explained as uploading their mind into a spare body elsewhere, and the Kreegan... i don't remember. Most i remember of the Kreegan is that the Lvl.1 version moves by rolling around, and that they have access to the Silence spell which casts an AoE that moves alongside you and prevents anything from casting a spell. Also, the Melee-oriented Lvl. 3 Djinn transformation has a spell simply called "Nuke". Only works if you have lock-on on an enemy, though.

I have been playing this game on and off for many years (ever since I purchased the CD from a second-hand store for $3). Overall, I have had fun with the game. I will agree that it has several flaws. However, I have found it enjoyable enough. A few things though. 1) It is possible to trade your equipment between characters. All you have to do is access your save files. Once you do that, copy and paste the file titled "Inventory_Item" to your new character and boom, you have traded items between characters. I would point out that if you wish to keep your old inventory items as well, you need to drop all your old inventory items on the ground, save the game and then paste the file. On a side note, if you come across some items you really want to keep for future playthroughs, you can store the inventory file in another location and follow the same trick in your next playthrough. 2) Due to how easy to manipulate the game is, you can actually trick the game to give you up to 2,000,000,000 gold at the start of a game. All you have to do is try to drop more gold than you are holding. The game will reset your typed value to your maximum holding. However, you can still type in the box and can change it to a high value again. Then you hit drop and, viola, a dropped item holding millions of gold pieces. You can go on an amazing shopping spree to start the game fully suited up. 3) Regarding deaths, there is one slight consequence. This game has a death counter. If you are trying to do this game deathless, then there is a consequence to dying in the game. If that doesn't bother you, then rock on. However, if you are a perfectionist and still want to play the game, you can use the same trick I discussed above and save a copy of the file "Charcs" so you can restore your character without having the death counter activated. However, you will lose any progress you made since you last made that back-up, so take care.

There was a ps1 port, but that like comparing ps2 port of Star Wars force unleashed to the ps3 version. With alot of similar and big different changes and reuse cutscenes. and it depends on which one is better or worst. A remaster would be nice, not if a fan remaster source port, using unity or unreal 4.

It's sad when the PS1 games all look, play, and sound better gameplay wise than the PS2 game. 😢

This game has been in my head for years and i always forgot the name of it and i new it wasn't Diablo. This was literally the only game i played religiously on PSP

Regarding Hugh Jackman still voicing Van Helsing, I never had an issue with line delivery, if he sounded zoned out I always assumed it was because he’s been doing this monster hunting business for so long that he might lose track a bit every once in a while. I thought some of his delivery was great in the game, in particular my favorite in the game was after he killed Aleera. He throws her own words back at her (before the fight she says “Ive been waiting for this moment for 400 years, and I don’t intend to let it slip through my talons!”), saying “400 years, eh? I guess it wasn’t worth the wait.” I didn’t mind the respawning enemies, it added to the effect of “there’s always more monsters to take down.” If anything, it’s beneficial on your initial playthrough as often I find you’ll get enough XP to max out both your Alt Ammo bar AND your Life bar (granted if you know where all the in-game Life Increasers are, which is tricky as one mission has FIVE of the 20 total).

This looks exactly like a game I would have rented and never beaten the second level of as a child, but I can’t help but have a fondness for the crusty aesthetics

Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon is not a game for the 3DO, it's for the CD-i It's easy to mix them up in your head since they are three letters. The CD-i was 1990. It was designed for "multimedia" and was not good at games. The 3DO was a reasonably powerful console when released in 1993.
