Most Expensive 1 Watt Amp Ever??? Marshall JTM1H Review! | The Q Show ep. 45
Howdy y'all, after a small respite I am back! Today we dig into a client's JTM1H and see if it's really worth the insane price it's getting on the used market. I dug it a lot but... I'll let you be the judge ;)
P.S. Announcement coming shortly to explain where I'd like to take the channel going forward. I really like what I'm doing here, but after taking the break and seeing which videos did well and which didn't, I think it'd be foolish to not try and cater to what y'all really want!

Howdy, y’all! Today we do something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time.. test out the Fender Frontman 15G through a different speaker than the one he comes with. To me this amp has incredible value, and not just for fender tones ;). Let’s dig in! Edit: early on I very confidently, and… incorrectly, state that the amp is 38w 🥲. This is only a marker of power consumed the actual output is ra...

Cheapest Hendrix Tones Ever? Danelectro Cool Cat Vibe and Behringer Ultra Fuzz Sound Check!
I found out about this pedal because Bob Weir was using them in the late 80s. It reminds me of early electro funk like Zapp’s Roger Troutman. I am loving these subtly soothing tripped out tones, very danceable. Thanks so much for the demo
@@williamrutherford9997 I had no idea Weir used this. I always think of the mu-tron (but I’m not much of a deadhead, maybe that’s more Jerry?). I have since learned that the af-9 takes some cues from the mutron anyway (in the sense that both use optical to control things). Thanks for watching!
Interesting, one of the best uses I’ve seen of 2 boost pedals in sync.
I own one of these and have always been curious as to why nothing was printed on the raised right hand plate. It's just ... blank.
@@ReneeNme it used to have text annotating the speaker I think, the print doesn’t last
@@TheQShow I always wondered if it might have been due to them being a production prototype test run for consumers.
My wife just found one at a good will basically new for 3.99 without a power chord 😅 First guitar amp excited to start making some music with it
@@DawsonDeadEye enjoy it man!
can you look at the marshall mg100hdfx?
I have a VS100 as well. I will never let is go. 1. you can't find a good combo amps in our area. 2. It has a classic crunch sound, and good clean for some blues.
Just picked one up today for 18 bucks at goodwill. About to thrash bro
@@kkrackheadd let’s goooooo
should have used a TS7
@@BBfanfun would’ve if I had one 😅 Fwiw: I figured a typical ts9 would make for a better point of reference for the viewer tho’
If it's good enough for stanley clark!
I just busted this out of my attic because I wanted a desk amp and this one came with the squier I bought like 20 years ago, and damn I'm kinda surprised at now decent it is.
Ever had a guitar string in your eye?
@@RickHill-go9yo not yet, but surely one day
@@TheQShow I have injected myself with the high e string couple of times, alway cut them short now with a tough, cable cutting pliers.
I don't think it outputs 35w, most probably it what it consumes
@@__aythami you got me! I mention this in the video description 😅
What's the song you're playing?
Just jamming some chords, they’re pretty common progressions so I’m sure they’re in songs here and there :)
ive got the vs100 head and its one of my fav. amps ever ...I have an evh5150 and a orange tiny terror, but this is my main amp
I picked up a Valvestate S80 2x12 combo a while back. Other than the chorus, is it the same circuit as this 100?
ur chuggy playing is very clean and fast. cool!
Alright.This is a surprise.
@@christiantaylor4027 I was definitely pleasantly surprised! To me, every piece of gear has at least one good sound in it ;)
There’s 1 on Craigslist for $25 I thought about ya the 15g is like the mustang I think fender put a 8 inch in that also
I was given one of these a few years ago. The cleans were actually really good for a cheapo. And the OD in them actually aren’t too bad once you take the time to EQ them a bit. I actually used 2 of these in stereo with a boss GT-100 3 years ago. Loved the tone I got out of them.
You mentioned get the new ones do they have the same sounds that this unit has ? Are you selling this unit ?
@@LifeJourney-qp2bc I did end up selling this to get kick/hi hat modules. Newer units have a lower noise floor, I guess some would say that means they “lack mojo”. For me, it’s a better canvas to work from as I develop tones for tracks :). I will say I miss the aesthetic of this tho, such a cool looking unit!
I'm super fond of the Dyna Comp and I've been using them for years, but I got one of these for my DOD collection and I really like it. Compressors are boring and you never want to spend the money on one compared to a delay or something, but the difference it makes in your sound makes it worth it.
best presentation of this unit...
@@marekmosiadz1127 that means a lot, ty!
Who likes the sound of their own voice??? THIS GUY
The Smash box is way better than the Tube screamer. Shit. I wish I had bought one when they were available.
Your intro is brilliant!!! I could just watch it all day long. Great job!
I own one for years, and it's amazing. You can tweak it to your desire. Put a fuzz before it and you are synthing no problem.
i bought mine 20 yrs ago for 15 $
The answer is if you are playing in a band and in a club, yes. If you are playing in your room the non power tube amp is better because the big marshall won't do what it does at a reasonable volume
Hi, nice video. Thanx for making me curious: This saturday, I‘ll buy a second hand, two years old, Squier Aff HSS. It will be a set with this amp. I‘ve got lots of „good“ gear and was thinking of selling the amp next week. But you changed my with. Can‘t wait for trying it!
I bought one at a pawn shop for $99. I wanted a light weight practice amp and didn't know anything about it other than Randall was a well known brand. First time I used it, I was like, No way! Couldn't believe a $99 amp could be thus great. I made a footswitch for it and it's been amazing
Later Muppet
VS100 original owner and recall paying $650 for it in 1998, with inflation that would be over $1200 in 2024. The Amp has travelled to many places in the last 26 years… I have experimented with different preamp tubes and have found little difference in the overall sound, my experience with different pickups had more of a positive gain. I had to replace all the pots once, and the main volume pot twice…poor quality replacement maybe? It’s missing a foot, has a tear of the finish on one side, otherwise it looks and sounds great, especially through a half stack. 👍 overall, I recommend the Valvestate VS100 for ones repertoire of amplification boxes 😊
great demo
Miss my VS100 so much. Recently got a Lead 100 Mosfet & love it also. I hope people keep hating them so they stay cheap! ✌️🤘
Digging Your Style!!!!
This is such a dope example. I could actually hear the differences on my iPhone. 💪🏾💪🏾
I'm going to go with your mod but I'm not too sure where it's soldered, on the right hand side ? The shadow makes it difficult to see for the visually impaired. Thanks Though x
It’s the center spot on right hand side, I don’t remember if I mentioned this in the vid but note how I cut the lead on the board so the resistor can work properly (you’ll see a little copper colored cut behind the left lead)
Thank you so much !@@TheQShow
Not me getting a marshall for amazing clean tones.... :( I feel attacked HAHAHAHAHA
The valvestate still has a 12AX7. Pre amp tune
I just found one that looks in mint condition for $25 lol. I will now go check it out in person and I won't even offer the dude less(rare for me to not try and lowball lmao) just because of this video lol. Side note: I need this amp like I need a hole in my head(I have WAY WAY WAY too many mf amps tube and solid state but wtf for $25 right?). Cool video though. Also I have plenty of speakers to experiment with. Did you say what exact speaker you're playing through? I'll watch this again and see if you mention it. Thanks broski
I have bought the Yuer Noise Gate, think it’s the same as that one?
I found this video about two hours after I bought one of these from a pawn shop for $30. I guess got a better deal than I thought I did.
I had one of these back in the day. Everyone always loved the sound of this amp. I'm thinking about getting a modern one from Randall.
Modern ones ain’t as good, trust me. These amps are revered because of their sound you’re better off swapping the speaker and just keeping up with maintenance
I have 2 modern Randall heads now, which compliment my vintage Peavey VTM, Rockmaster and Classic wall of sound very well! The RH150D G3 that is hybrid and a total killer, and the RX120 solid state which is very much like that RG80C, just updated head style :) Thinking about getting a matching 212 cab and an Iso cab for the 2 heads :)
I bought and returned a mini jubilee, dsl20, and jcm800 20, they all sounded damn near the same to the VS30R I bought for $50. Put a tube screamer in the mix and youl have all the marshall youl ever need
One of the best amps ever, designed by Gary Sunda.
Would you say they’re too powerful to just use indoors :)
@@ethanrobinson5536 Nah. They do just fine.
Got one 😏
Careful! They’re worth a fortune 😉 How do you use it?
Are there any fakes on the Rode Lavalier Go? I can't find information anywhere
Honestly I’ve no idea; but, this experience taught me to purchase from authorized retailers or friends I trust!
I just bought two in great condition for 30 bucks.
Nice! How do you plan on using them?
@@TheQShow I actually sold them for 35 each and bought a champion 40 for 25!
is this basically an improved chicken salad?
I’d say so, although tone is subjective of course ;)
Im 46 damn 47 in a few weeks that sucks, anyway… Back in my hard gigging days.. Nobody had tubes. NOBODY! And Peavey ruled the local music scene, as well as metal heads they wanted Crate because they chugged.. But nobody and I mean nobody was using tube amps, not in bars clubs under 21 clubs punk scene to our grunge scene, to country and bar band mix of everything scene. Nobody played tubes, nobody wanted that old outdated stuff. I dont know what your partnof the country was like late 80’s to the late 90’s into early 200’s but the whole tube amp thing was a resurgence. Because back in Indy/Anderson/Muncie/Marion/Ft Wayne scene.. All of central Indiana.. Local musicians did not play tube amps. If they had one. It stayed at home and they played a solid state Peavey most likely. And as a bass player in many bands I can honestly say nobody had tube bass amps, and I prefer solid state for bass anyway. BTW shout out to my Madison county OG’s still out there getting it! 🤟🏻✌🏻
My question though, is did anybody play tubes?
@@supernothing77 😆😆 smart ass lol
I'm a little older than you and yes you are correct. Most people used solid state. I had one of these JCM 800 heads with a 2 x12 Marshall cab and a 4x10 Ampeg cab. It was my first rig. It was a monster. I downsized to a peavy stereo chorus 212.
