Dude. Just found the channel and love it! Ive been preaching that hp is not near as important as weight savings on my channel for a while and finally others are starting to see that. My content is about my swapped GC that weighs 2750lbs. Its a track beast...
@@traviscea it's hard to find ppl with this mindset, all the Subaru owners just want to make power, but a lot don't realize you can't put that power down anywhere on a track. You end up with a huge power rush, then you have to over brake, losing a lot of time in corners, rather than smooth momentum driving with stock power levels, and better cornering speeds with less weight and focus on suspension and handling upgrades.
I run the 18" BBS wheels from the S203/S204/2013 tS Type RA/2018 Type RA-R, and they are roughly 17lbs each corner. So much better than the stock 19" wheels on my 2019 STI.
This is awesome! Finally, someone with the sense that weight reduction yields greater dividends than simply HP increase. I love this stuff! I'm particularly interested in getting the CF drive shaft (and recently found a guy that sells TSS fab front and rear subframes and while Im under the car I might as well get those done. Oh!! and that Antigravity battery is a must!! (Mines a 04 STi, curb weight of about ~ 3200lbs) Great channel, thanks for posting this content!
@@fredastaire6156 absolutely! The weight reduction once all complete makes the car handle so much better, improved performance across the board. I am at ~3250 now, these S209 are fat pigs. Thanks for the comment!
@@TheLastS209 That’s good to know! Installing an Antigravity battery seems like a really overlooked mod. My favorite part of the Sti is the feel(especially steering). So far all of my modifications have been drivetrain bushings, steering rack bushings, short shift, underbody bracing(love), sway bar and end links, strut tower brace, motor mounts, trans mount, pitch stop mount, and Ti exhaust …I’ve done nothing to gain any power yet(except exhaust), and honestly I don’t really feel the need to. The car is way more fun to drive with the chassis stiffening mods.
Side mirrors. Titanium exhaust one exit noble makes one it’s full titanium great price great weight savings. The Stis don’t make enough horsepower to care for a dual. Back on the side mirrors get carbon you’d be surprised how much just those factory ones weigh. I’m currently moving but when I’m moved I’m making a full carbon floor mat that will mount to the seat bolts that way I can take out the carpet in the whole car. That was a lot of weight on my evo 9 rs that I had as a daily. Crash beam front and rear remove and replace with aluminum will save weight. Move wiper fluid to rear and battery to rear gets you closer to 50/50 weight distribution when you do ti exhaust.. door cards carbon saves weight. Speakers remove and put into seats smaller speakers. Saves weight and on those long trips you can still rock hard.. can’t think of other things right now. Not bad video. Seems like your starting keep it up.
Yeah this is a great list. After I reach my goal of 1:49 at my local track, then I plan on another ~100 lb of weight reduction, gonna get it close to 3200 lbs. That's the most I'll do, I don't want to get to the point of no return with this car, if you know what I mean.
Beautiful car and excellent weight savings! Have you been to the track at Club Motorsports in Tamworth, NH? If you haven't, I highly recommend it! It's similar to Palmer, but longer, wider, and more elevation.
@@TheLastS209 same here, I've been the same weight since high school and I graduated 17 years ago lol. Filipino/Mexican dont gain weight if you're active every day, which is what I am. I still look 20 even though Im 35. Everyone I went to HS with looks like they're 50 now lolololzzz.
If you ever think of dropping another pound, I have an uninstalled HKS Cold Air Intake with the carbon fiber box that I'm willing to let go for the oem S209 intake 👀
@@TheLastS209 Understandable. I'm technically replicating Jeff's build almost to the T with my 2020 STI and I'm looking to get my hands on S209 goodies but it's practically impossible without owning one to do so. I have the third ASE VF58 in the states (this one is in Massachusetts, the other one is in the Pacific Northwest, and Jeff's in New Jersey I believe) , and going as OEM+ as I can.
Absolutely love weight reduction. My Impreza looks like a Kanjozoku Civic(which I am a huge fan of). Daily driven, not for everyone, but it is so fun! Air bags and side impact beams and such still intact for safety though. Love the gains from the driveshaft you did, but having it not collapsible would mess with my mind. Have you thought about the mirrors, like an APR GT3 mirror? Might be a bit much for daily use, but I'd imagine there is a substantial difference. Also, when you do the exhaust manifold, consider the up pipe as well, as most solid aftermarket ones are about 2lbs lighter than an OEM catless up pipe. I'd recommend HKS as well. Our HKS up pipe mated to an OEM exhaust manifold fit as well as the OEM up pipe. On our other Impreza, I just replaced a very old OEM up pipe that finally cracked, with a Cobb up pipe(quickest I could get), mated to a Killer B exhaust manifold, and the fitment between the two was definitely not awesome. Just a thought. HKS up pipe pn: 34998-BF001 Lastly, again, might be a bit much for a daily S209, but the plastic4performance lexan windows would be a good bit of weight savings, especially nice since they are on the upper half of the car. Great video!
free weight reduction is awesome. Paid weight reduction not as much. I understand the goal is for the best possible track day, but some of the paid reductions seem over the top. When going to the track, you can also remove the rear door cards and rear seat, unless you have rear seat passengers going along.; but still an option. Is the glove box and center cubby empty? Do you take out the unused head rests too?
Yeah that's the easy stuff. Door cards weigh almost nothing, and you are making the weight distribution even worse if you remove weight from the rear. That's why the paid weight reduction from things in the front is more beneficial than you might think.
@@Afos3 No downsides as long as it's installed correctly and not defective. There are some people who report vibrations at higher speeds, could be due to incorrect installation or a defective driveshaft. @@Afos3 The two-piece is designed to drop the transmission below you in a head-on crash, instead of having it come into the cabin. Not that much of an issue on a track though.
Take a poop u loose 2lb, then take the rear end out that’s 107lb the mufflers is 20 ontop of that so go titanium headers all the way to the back carbon driveshaft is like 30-40ish pounds or something that, I did all this to street race and it actually launched harder and better
Not that I know of. Some ppl have reported vibrations at higher speeds, but I haven't experienced that, could be a defect or incorrect installation. Overall it's a win win when it's working properly imo
If you hit something head-on, the transmission will no longer drop down and below you like it's designed to do with the two-piece, it will crush your legs.
@@leviwedel Nah, it still will. The single carbon shaft isnt strong enough in that direction of impact and it will shear easier than the stock shaft would. Ive seen it a few times myself.
