Hi, I'm Erin! I’m a long-distance hiker and photographer, currently based in beautiful Washington State. In August 2021, I solo thru-hiked the 210-mile John Muir Trail. In 2022, I completed a 93-day thru-hike of the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail, and in 2023, I thru-hiked the Continental Divide Trail.

Day 15 on the JMT | The Final Day, Clouds Rest, Happy Isles | Solo Hiking the John Muir Trail NOBO
In August 2021, I solo thru-hiked the John Muir Trail (JMT) northbound (NOBO) from Horseshoe Meadow via Cottonwood Pass to Happy Isles in Yosemite National Park. On Day 15 of the JMT, my final day, I hiked about 10 miles. It was very bittersweet to finish the trail.
Thank you so much for following along my John Muir Trail journey!

Sorry about the passing of your coach.
Congratulations on your finish! I really enjoyed watching it!
Silver Pass is beautiful. I worked a couple of summers at VVR and would go up there once or twice a month.
Absolutely amazing. Nice sound. I recommend you visit the himalayan mountains k2 and Nangaparbat view point from one place moses peak. Add this sound in your bucket list.
I have been watching your series of the JMT I am training to do it this summer. You talked about a notebook you took to write in. Was it a journal? I am trying to watch the weight I carry but really want to take one with me, so I don't forget things on the trail. I love your videos! Makes me want to get back into making more of my hiking ones. You're an inspiration to me
Great job The filming was great and a big thank you for no music. I enjoy the sounds of you hiking Thank you for a great adventure
It was a pretty cool adventure video
Whoa! Big mileage day and Whitney......outstanding!!!
That's a big second day on trail.....great job!
I'm late to the party, but I enjoyed day 1 and will continue the journey. I hiked the JMT in 2019, same route as you, and will do it again this August. Thanks for sharing!!!
Wow, pretty neat 🙂👍
Awesome accomplishment! You seemed scared or unsure sometimes while making the videos. Was it unsettling being by yourself?
So cool Erin, thank you for Sharing and for sharing all of your gear list too!!!! :) I'm doing the JMT this September so getting excited
JMT solo twice, once with a friend. Caught, and released multiple giant Trout at Virginia Lake. Spent a day hunkered down at Purple Lake nailed by a huge rain event. Cruised into Reds and devoured a cheeseburger and milk shake!! Avoided Mammoth. Resupply at VVR as mentioned, avoiding MTR. Went from Whitney Portal to VVR before resupply. No cell phone!! Leave it home next time Erin, go old school. Love your videos. Chilimac
Great job Erin. Next time hit VVR. Really embrace thru hikers, as opposed to MTR. And you can set up your tent about 100 feet from the store/cafe!! I've done JMT three times, and I can relate to your videos the most!! A compliment.
brings back memories. I agree, Glen is tough. I also did it SB and that was even tougher. thanks for sharing.
That was not a buck. That was a bull elk. There are lage herds of elk in those mountains. Lucky to see. You had nothing to fear, just make noise and they run away.
I’m enjoying watching your jmt series 😃
What backpack are you using?
3:31 Charlotte Dome ! 🙂🧗🏻♂️
3:24 Sky Pilot ! 🙂
Pretty sweet :) Funny that you talk so soft to wake up anything in big open space ;) Got a permit - go light-n-fly July 2023
My friend and I hiked the JMT SOBO this past summer, and we camped on the south side of Mather (where you heard the coyote) because we got caught in a storm. When the storm ended those coyotes started to howl & bark VERY close by our tents, so I know how unnerving that is. 😬
Such a great experience you shared; I was so impressed I suggested my son attempt it after some training and short camping trips. Hope you can find the time to do something similar in the future.
Just got done with this hike SOBO. Two passes in one day is no joke! Good job
Hi Erin. Thanks for your videos of the JMT. I've never done a sectional or thru hike, but I've been backpacking a few times and I enjoy fly fishing alpine lakes, streams, and rivers. The camping, backpacking, and hiking adventures I do, all come as a result of my sobriety. I never knew how passionate about the outdoors I would become. I've longed to live on trail and hope to complete the cdt at the very least, one day. It's tough finding time due to living in the rat race. However, I got depressed upon my return from a 4 day hike I did last year and I even feel disconnected after the small weekend trips I do. I can relate, but cannot imagine the feelings you had given the extended time you lived out there. I feel so free when I'm out in the deep wilderness. I'm half Navajo and sometimes pretend I'm in pre-colonial times living freely off the land. When I'm in the wilderness, it makes my spirit happy. Post hike depression is quite common, as you know. Your videos and the emotions that you did share take me back to my first big hike in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. I went into the hike with spiritual intentions to come back a changed man. The last day I was there, after I packed up my camp, I became so emotional because it was ending. I sat and prayed as tears rolled off my face. I was so afraid to walk off those mountains unchanged. I was afraid to return home to the stuck mindset I had prior to the trip. I haven't been on a backpacking trip since, but I can say my life has truly changed over the last 14 months. I'll be returning to same trail next year, because I didn't complete the loop like I had planned. I want to fulfill those intentions to complete that trip. Thank you so much for reminding me. I hope you have plenty more adventures in your life. Ahéhéé (Thank you)
Hi Erin Thank you for sharing your amazing experience. Would love to see how you mapped and planned out your resupply schedule and locations
Watched the whole series. Thank you so much. I have hiked portions of the JMT over my 68 years. This was a great way to suss out the portions that remain! The Sierra truly is the range of light and love. Thanks again.
I stumbled upon your JMT vids while prepping for my upcoming trip. Pleasantly surprised to see this video! I haven't been to lake of the clouds in many many years! It's a nice reminder that I need to get back "home". Thank you for sharing
You're really inspiring! Cool videos!
Where do you park if your starting at horseshoe meadows?
Wow! So hazy/smoky. That’s too bad.

Great job, congratulations!
You really need to speak up.Most the video is not audible..Thanks for the visual expirence..
Congratulations on your 1st completed Thru-Hike!! GREAT Accomplishment!! At all of my thru-hikes, the end is Always emotional as well certain sections along the way when you find yourself fully embraced by the wilderness & scenery and you KNOW that is where you belong and it's ALL because YOU hiked there!! Love your Smile at the End and the Picture Perfect ending to the video with you walking away in the Valley!! !! Hat's off Erin!! ~Siesta
Thanks for taking us along you are great
Congrats Erin! What a fantastic experience. Thanks for taking us along with you.
Is that an Xmid? and btw, looks like you're wearing leather pants on my screen, LOL
Life is about the journey and not the destination…stay safe and strong while you enjoy the hike of a lifetime.
True
congrats! i enjoyed your videos. looking forward to the pct series.
I remember my son and I’s final day on the NOBO JMT last year. I was excited that we where completing a difficult goal but sad that it had to end for sure! I could have kept going to Canada!… didn’t want it to end. :) Great hike and thanks for sharing your journey!
🙂👍
Well, that was simply fantastic. Thank you for taking us along! I’m starting from MTR mid-July hiking northbound to Happy Isles…congrats.
👍🙂
I looked forward to your videos each week after I found the first one. Thanks, Erin. Great job. Congrats!

Looking forward to what's next from you. I'm stoked for my first thru on the TRT in less than 2 months! And somehow already dreading the last day and coming back...

🙂
Very nice to find your channel, the JMT is a gem and gets less attention but it delivers a solid hike worthy without staying on the trail too long. Bravissimo!!!
Agreed
Well done. The hiking and filming. Thank you very much.
It was cool
Good for you
