The Hounds of Tindalos - Frank Belknap Long Jr. audiobook
Join me for a full audiobook reading of Frank Belknap Long Jr.’s “The Hounds of Tindalos,” a seminal work of Lovecraftian horror and weird fiction first published in Weird Tales (March 1929). Famous for introducing the terrifying Hounds of Tindalos to cosmic horror lore, this story intertwines science, metaphysics, and the macabre in a way that still captivates fans today.
In “The Hounds of Tindalos,” we follow Halpin Chalmers, an eccentric scholar who experiments with an otherworldly drug to gain insight into the corners of time. His revelations, however, attract the attention of the Hounds-malevolent entities that lurk in the angles of reality. As Chalmers unravels cosmic mysteries, he soon discovers that some secrets of the universe are best left unprobed.
If you’re intrigued by Lovecraftian themes, cosmic dread, or the broader Cthulhu Mythos, this short story is a must-listen. Frank Belknap Long was a close friend of H.P. Lovecraft, and this tale stands as one of the earliest expansions of the shared mythos. Brace yourself for a chilling journey through forbidden knowledge and the hidden geometries that lie beyond mortal comprehension.

“..fighting, killing…..” Yep - that’s us.
Well done Much better than a AI 👍👍👍
Thank you! Glad you enjoy it! Appreciate that you keep coming back :D
Big classic this one! Thanks.
My pleasure, enjoy!
I love this story even though it's wildly inaccurate considering neanderthals and dinosaurs. Good production 👍
How so?
Look, are we going to believe the thorough studies of "science" on this one, or the mad ravings of someone who took drugs and has seen it for himself during a very bad trip? Because the latter one is making a hell of a case for it :p
@@crimsoncapricorn188 neanderthals were not the simple brutes that they are usually depicted as and dinosaurs weren't reptiles or slow moving
@@Robert-s1k8p I doubt the reptile thing
@crimsoncapricorn188 although it was scientifically accurate in the 1920's
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Fantastic telling of this story!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Clark Ashton Smith hadn't been on my radar until now. What a great story (and great narration, as always). I knew the odd story by him but now I'm looking forward to more of your narrations. Just finished this now. Awesome! Thank you, man!
I've gotten a list of authors people wanted me to look into during a livestream a couple weeks back, and an easy one from that list was CAS. The man has SO MANY stories as well, so he'll definitely be popping up from time to time on the channel. Thanks for listening!
thanks for the story!
Enjoy!
Clark Ashton Smith is such an underrated author, honestly his Zothique cycle´s stuff is masterful too, i recomend you do some readings of it, i think you will enjoy it!
It really was a toss-up between doing his Zothique cycle or his Hyperborea cycle first, tbh. So the Zothique cycle will have its day soon ;)
Awesome visuals to accompany this feast for my imagination!😮😅
Nice another Story
Hope you enjoyed it!
Oh boy just in time for my next 12hr shift!
Hope it was able to make the shift a bit better?!
Just loving your delivery. A treat to listen to a non-rushed rendition.
Yea, slowly delivered, precise enunciation, a blessing to those of us with “hard of hearing” issues. Looking forward to more.
I'm genuinely happy to hear that! Glad to be of service! 😀
Just when I think I have listened to all of robert e howards audio book readings. I find somthing new. Happy birthday 2 gun Bob.
It's because it's mostly recognized as a pastiche instead of an original REH. But since he's written the original fragment and outline of the story before others finished it, I'm counting it as a REH ^^
Classic story. Nicely read.
Glad you enjoyed it!
How do you fire a hat and don a revolver?
Guess that's just part of the madness that the Moon brings? 😆
Thank for bringing this story on the birthday of Robert E. Howard………………….sword and sorcery, heavy metal yeah
It´s always a good day to honor great men ^^ Enjoy!

Your narration is incredible. It was as if a cast of actors were presenting.
Thank you for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the narration!
Powerful, as usual. I'm really enjoying these. Great, job, man!
Thanks! Same, man. I've yet to encounter the first Conan story that I didn't like 💪
I am the Thing.
I think it's kind of counter-productive to announce who you are if you were the Thing, though :p Kind of negates the whole 'perfect imitation'-thing ;)
@MiniatureMythos how would you know though? I look and sound the same, still turn up at work etc, in fact it's the same old thing everyday 😭
@@boriscovidscamson2911 Just the idea of the Thing going too far into the perfect mimicry that it gets stuck in the daily rut of modern society, trying to make rent, suffering from social injustice... wishing it could just leave this damned planet again :p

As always - massive thanks.
And as always, my absolute pleasure! :D
Great story. Thx for sharing.
You're welcome! Hope you enjoy it!
Missed this one! When are you streaming next?
I'll probably do pixel art on Monday and will return to miniatures on Thursday next week :)
And you also narrated this too! Well done great voice for narration.
Thanks a lot! :D
This is longer than the original? Well done, finally something to sleep and fear to.
Well, this is, as far as I know, the 'original'... unless I've read an adaptation of course. Glad you like it! I wish you good night and great chills ^^
WHERE CAN I SEE THE FILM ?
There is actually a short film made in 1961 that was used in an episode of the 5th season of The Twilight Zone that depicts the events of this story. If you look on TH-cam for 'Robert Enrico - La rivière du hibou (An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge)' you're bound to find it.
You weren’t kidding about this one being sad. Great work as always!
Thanks! Glad you liked it. Yeah, as one of the first stories with this 'trope', I think it did pretty well ^^ Nowadays, this kind of twist is always lurking in the back of our minds when watching shows or movies, but back then, probably still mind-blowing.
Is that a Union officer and flag, standing side by side together with Rebel troops?
Well, just as the the story said, the Federal troops used Confederate colours to trick Peyton Farquah into admitting that he was going to... Who am I kidding? It's just the AI not being able to get its story straight and it would take too much work in Photoshop to correct it 😅
@ LOL. AI is still in its infancy. But it still does provide the occasional masterpiece.
Missed it😢😢😢!!!arrrggggg....Will have to dig out my old METAL (proper!!!) Miniatures!!!
Hehe, metal miniatures were awesome! I do think it's a shame that they went out of style... ^^
I just played the game Black Myth: Wukong and have been looking for an audio book english version of The Journey to the West. Are these 7 videos the entire book?
Unfortunately not. The Journey to the West is a huge story and will take many more videos to narrate in full. I do plan to pick it back up soon though.
@MiniatureMythos makes since. After I asked the question, I did some searching. It is massive! I'll be listening to these 7 at least. Thank you.
Yeah, I underestimated it when I started the recordings, but I do intend to do the whole thing. For now, enjoy the chapters that're already done! :)
The narrator's accent lends just the right amount of the exotic that a classic Conan story should have. I'll be subscribing and listening to more.
Much appreciated! :D

@@StephenSinclair-d6n I´ll do a mammoth next time, Stephen 😉
thanks sir
You say "the" like "duh". "Duh night". "Duh Castle". Love Lovecraft. Thank you
@@Holypikemanz We don´t have the ´th´ in Dutch, so it takes a lot of conscious effort to use that sound throughout, and I definitely slip up a lot 😀
The th sounds (both the voiced and voiceless ones) used in English is pretty rare in other languages, so it is actually pretty hard to master for non-native speakers. Especially when reading long texts like these ones. Kudos for going at it, it's why we have weekly free entertainment to keep us company 🙏
Duh...
Crom! Mitra! Valka and Hotath! Your presentations of Two Gun Bob's work, are the best! Thank you for your artistic drive, to bring his stories to life. And putting his poetry , The Song of Belit, to music? Divinely genius! My hats off to the songwriter and the Goddess who crooned the lyrics. Please, do more stories, and nullify the substandard works of the pretenders.
Terrific narration!
Thank you!
Man, this is such a good story. It really felt like an adventure. Got hints of Robinson Crusoue and The Swiss Family Robinson. Great narration too! I hope you'll continue the series.
Same, I loved every minute of it! I really am looking forward to doing the rest of the trilogy at some point. Just gotta find the time to fit in more of these longer narrations :D
The Moon Toilet well you do Generally get your Posterior out when go to the Toilet 😂😂😂😂
Took me a while to realise 'bog' is slang for 'toilet' :D Puts a whole new meaning on this entire story...
