I’m not the biggest fan of the Joker movie but I do think the rest of these films should follow suit; spend money on good writers and directors instead of CGI. Spectacle and fan service will only get you so far.

For me it started with my favourite movies being Spider-Man 2 and then The Matrix. Then came Donnie Darko. Then came Christopher Nolan’s Memento. Then Tarantino. Paul Thomas Anderson‘s filmography followed, then it was Kubrick, then Malick. Now in my 30s I say Scorsese is my favourite director but for the most part if it’s good, I like it. It can be arthouse indie or it could be a massive multimillion dollar blockbuster, as long as it’s executed well in its medium I’m there

I very much agree with the separating the art from the artist thing. I tend to think of it like, okay, but what impact am I or could I possibly be having by not engaging with this piece of media that I like? And the answer is usually none. No impact. The only thing that objectively happens is I don't get to enjoy something. I don't think anyone should defend the problems in a piece of work or defend the actions of gross, shitty people who made or were involved in cool art, but not engaging with the art itself doesn't really do anything.

Lol, say something like that to John Carpenter and his "Thing" or Sergio Leone's "Dollar trillogy". Film critics hated these brilliant movies back in the day. I think these guys have never been into art and their opinion is not worth shit

I have almost no place to store them at this point, but i love physical media and film ownership is so important especially when streaming services can just delete films/tv shows whenever they feel like it

nice dude, I will finish watching this tomorrow. I have over 600+ DVDs. Love physical media, digital however I stick to BR rips, only because BR media is not as stable as dvd and the lightest scratches almost always ruin it, so Im scared to even handle them. Oh BTW, Temp Of Doom is AMAZING. The critics are wrong :)
