Sonic Adventure Autodemo - Egg Carrier Front Obj Test
"The only way to me, is through the door leading directly to me"
A test video with lag from correcting the scene changers for Egg Carrier in the Autodemo, and forcing EC_F to have its set data loaded. The Sky Deck door here was set up to go directly into the hall at this point in dev.
I now need to get the exterior Egg Carrier stages to actually load their set data in properly without being forced in ram.
The textures are applied wrong still. Maybe I'll learn about fixing that one day.

From testing music restores for Casinopolis alongside the wip Ninja Lighting mod. Ninja lighting allows for seeing the vertex colours and has backface culling, it seems to be what the stage blockouts were designed for and looks a lot nicer than palette lighting does for stages that aren't textured. Normally this prototype displays an error when entering the tank but can continue afterwards. If you keep pressing ABXY Start in the tank to soft reset the game, eventually you get errors about failing to release textures and you can break your seaman.     Also, was the spiny egg floor thing that originally led you to the eggcarrier underground area found in the auto demo ? I wonder if that is why there is that super fucking awkward cutscene in the final version where sonic says "so, this must be the entrance to the sky deck, huh?"

      not quite sure which you mean, the regular elevator that spins? that exists at the back deck just in front of the entrance to the swimming pool room

      they are textures in the build but they are either applied with the wrong ids or it is using them because they are in memory and the ones it wants are missing for now. still a bit of work to do on fixing those up

      as far as i remember, super sonic wasn't implemented yet in this version of the game. maybe we would find some early code remnants but if it was in the perfect chaos stage, that stage has had most of its code gutted in this version.

      Kinda crazy, I was hyped for it because it was new, it was beta, it (arguably) looks better than the final and the wide camera shots made it seem very big to me, but seeing how bad the camera is in all the scenes and how they do 0 focus on anything for the wow factor, it just becomes easier to see all the flaws.

      it's still a stage designed for different physics parameters and engine tweaks, but like yeah there is a reason it was scrapped lol. it would probably work a little nicer in an older version of the game, but it's pretty clunky here. they learned their lessons from it though.

    This is coming completely out of nowhere (I also don’t know which video to comment this on) but I am currently hyperfixated on Rez as a whole after I completed Infinite 100% and want to say thank you for uploading all this stuff about the OG game. It’s nice to see behind the scenes stuff in the game and how different the game could have been (mainly with music). It’s a very interesting game.

    I always had my suspicion on the audio system of this one. It is in fact a MIDI controlled play back. Explains how they managed to do the transitions and track fades. Very cool to see in action.

      it becomes more of a reality each day, we've all made good progress so far. for this mod, i ended up removing the code that forces the cutscenes in hub stages and have those all playing their music now. all that's left for music restores is twinkle park, bosses and minigames. and i think the only stages left to be fixed up to not crash are the bosses and mystic ruins. there's a game research thread on the x-hax discord server where those involved do the work and you can observe it if you want to.

      Exant already did Egg Carrier garden (it's the proto windy valley segment one), and i think Mystic Ruins garden was either already done or not hard to do. Chao Race was done too.

      it doesn't seem to have gotten further than this state before being scrapped but it does have some attack animations that go unused. either the intent was to have an act 1 boss fight similar to how they ended up doing an act 2 one, or it was only ever a rough idea they ran out of time to do anything cool with. i'll change my mind if i somehow discover something else while doing more work on this version of the game.

      it's a little further along than that i think, but the white textureless surfaces do have material colours like it did. if you use the alternate lighting system these can be displayed sort of, but that is still being researched.
