Lure fishing for Bass and mackerel in the Solent - UK SMALL BOAT FISHING
I finally got back out on the boat and got the camera out. After finishing work at 1pm I quickly got down to the boat with the lovely weather we had with temperatures getting up to 29 degrees I thought I would get the lures out and try for some bass for the table. After doing a couple of drifts with the feathers I managed to get myself a few mackerel early on which was a good sign. After seeing some birds working I got the lure out for a few flicks and managed a couple of decent bass followed by a few smaller ones. It just goes to show that you done need a full day out on the water to have a productive trip on the boat. I had some bait with me but I didnt feel the need to drop the anchor and bait fish with all the fun seemed to be on the lures that day. All in All a very good afternoon catching bass and mackerel and very good fun on light gear. Lets hope that the weathers lets me back straight back out there for some more. Sometimes the solent produces some nice fish specially when the weather is on point. Hope you enjoyed the video. More to follow :)

just a short video trying out some up tiding. I usually only down tide when I go out on my boat But a friend said up tiding is the way forward. I gave it a go and it seemed to work. I have only ever tried up tiding once and I didnt get along with it. Im looking forward to doing more when out on the boat.

We set off for 24hrs overnighter on both our boats. The plan was to get as much fresh mackerel as we could in the evening and send it a few miles off shore first thing in the morning. Weather looked incredible for the bank holiday weekend so I planned to head off a few miles off the needles, trying to mackerel on the way. I ended up getting 3 miles off the needles but it was dogfish city, even double hooking on the same rig so it was time to move. just a quick video of how to change the oil and filter on a outboard while still on the water. No need to spend hundreds of pounds getting the boat lifted out when you have this oil extractor pump. I was out in the Solent last Friday and was plagued by May Rot - it was impossible to fish. I was down near Sowley.
What spinning rod is it?

Two bass
In New Zealand I drift and cast uptide with soft plastic baits and we do well
Nice video mate it definitely was better than the downtide rods I do it when the water is quite shallow like under 50 ft I can be better at times
Best rule of thumb i have come across is 1.5 times the length of your boat in chain on the anchor then the rest rope. Good vids!
Really good drone footage - I've been giving it a go but struggle a bit with a tiny Mavic Mini (original) as the wind really upsets it. What drone were you using here?
I use the DJI mini 3 drone. It’s so compact and easy to carry and Not too bad in wind

Great video mate! This is a chunky pouting definitely 10:25 but last year I caught a 4lb 40 cm pouting in Lyme Bay. This was a beast! Bear in mind that pouting is a good eating fish, its a cod family, hugely underestimated in the UK. In some European countries you can order a pouting in a restaurant 👍 Tight lines!

Surprise you guys use j hooks.. circle hooks are where it’s at.. get a better fight out of your fish.. and can release fish with out ripping their guts out
Funny you should say that, I have recently started using circle hooks, do find you get the hook in the scissors so perfect for release as you say 🙌🏽
Nice video mate great adventure lovely weather to do it shame not too many fish but still a good trip. It’s a shame the mackerel weren’t there it would have been much better. Some days the fishing is slow the next day complete opposite 👍

Nice footage. Take care flying close to the cliff face as the wind can catch the drone and blow it into cliff - well that can happen on my Mavic Mini which is very lightweight.

Wow, what an adventure! Despite the challenges with dogfish, it sounds like you made the most out of a beautiful day on the water. The calm weather must have made for a serene atmosphere, perfect for enjoying lunch and taking in the surroundings. Even though the big catch eluded you this time, catching that small bass on feathers was definitely a highlight. It goes to show that fishing always holds surprises, regardless of the conditions. I've just subscribed to your channel and eagerly await more of your videos.

I assume that was Saturday, it was quite rough in the afternoon over in Mudeford, it was a SW wind blowing straight in. Over by the island, you were sheltered

It's wind over tide that's the worst in the Solent, especially from Cowes to Hurst. Many times I have been through there when it's really rough but it's flat in Christchurch Bay and everywhere else. Same wind speeds too

Yeah exactly that, soon as the nice weather comes we get all excited but sometimes the fish do not play ball. Going out again today to the needles… and I’ve heard there’s been some mackerel caught 👀😍 thanks for your comment 😊
