    Well I have this Selena now and I also order the godox 88 too.and on testing I found the godox to be the better choice. After watching this I order the Selena and I had already ordered the godox at the same Time, I tried to cancel the godox but it had already shipped, so they both arrived the same week, I had bought both so I went to work like a kid in a candy factory. And I just knew that the Selena was going to kick ass,after watching this video, so I used it first and was very happy, then the godox. And I was shocked as the godox looked even better so now I have both, but I like the godox better I USed the ad 600 on them ,

      I too own both of these modifiers. I would not necessarily agree that the Godox is better but rather different. The Selens is more contrasty and has better color contrast. Reds and blues just absolutely pop. Skin tones are also richer in tonality. The Godox provides a parabolic look with fill lighting mixed in. To some, this may seem like an oxymoron. But I do believe that the Godox provides a one modifier solution for portraits with the need for contrast and fill.

    Having purchased, and used just about every parabolic, modifier, on the market. I can say the surface material and conical curved shape of the modifier really determines the light quality. The softer, the silver texture, the less parabolic effect you will get. I actually prefer the light quality of the Salens Edge over my Broncolor. But the Broncolor color is a little bit easier to set up. The Parabolix has a flatter and wrinkled back, which is not going to properly calumate the light. I would recommend to some purchasing one of the glow grand models. They act a lot like the Para 222 In a smaller configuration. Most people do not understand that. The para one 177 and the para 222 are completely different surface material and have a very different light quality and color temperature. I've been using the salons for over a year, and I have to say they really are the best Bang for the buck. Although they have become increasingly more expensive. Another thing to mention is the overall machining is much better than the Broncolor. But some of their assembly does need a little bit more attention to detail. There are metal pens that hold the ribs in place. These are not glued and prone to falling out, so some inspection and super glue might be necessary before immediately using.

    • @LuisGabrielPhotography
      @LuisGabrielPhotography 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I may have bad news. After first Selens agreeing to send the 90, I got now a follow up message back pedaling on the offer so unless things get sorted out, I will forget about it and move on. I am sorry :/ Selens need to learn about putting their products out there for the world to see. Doesn't matter how good your products are, if people don't see them in action then nobody will care Oh well I hope they change their minds.

    • @codyconrad7333

      I own the 90, 120, and 150. They are all great. The 90 and the 120 perform almost identical to Broncolor Para 88 and para 133. I would even say that the Selens Edge 90 looks a little better then the Para 88. The Selens Edge 150 is a beast. It is not a clone of the Para 177. It is a little unusual acting more like a larger version of the other two. I think for what they are being sold for, this is the size to avoid. I would recommend the 90 and the 120 first.

      Well I haven't tried the 90 yet but if the differenc3 between the 90 and the 35d are similar to the 120 vs the 45, I would go for the edge 90. With that said, I was able to get in contact with Selens and they are sending me a 90 loaner to do a comparison vs the 35D and even my Mola Sollo and Setti so this is going to be VERY interesting. I would purchase the Selens over a Parabolixs model always. Both will be difficult to set up in a low Ceiling situation due to the length of the focusing rods. The Selens has a 120cm Focusing rod. Unless you primarily sidelight, They'll really want taller ceilings. Low ceilings are never advantageous for large light modifier. Situations or studio work in general.

    • @AfroReactions

    Hi Luis for the bigger Selens, could you try to borrow the Broncolor again for a direct side by side comparison or a reproduction of the same lighting setup as the Godox vs Parabolix vs Broncolor video so there can be a side by side comparison of the Broncolor vs Selens? Also which strobe did you use with the Selens? Was it an AD200? Would the Selens build quality be able to support a AD600 Pro? Lastly for the long term review, could you check if the colour temp or tint shifts as the material ages? Or deteriorates in some way? Also left some questions on the Godox vs Parabolix vs Broncolor comparison video. Hope to get a reply there too. Thank you!

      Hello. I will try to get the Broncolor again from B&H ad I was never able to get a loaner directly from Broncolor. I used both the AD200 and the AD600 (extension head). I have never used the ad600 pro directly mounted to the Parabolix umbrellas as I always use the extension head. I will give it a shot but I much rather use the extension for as it makes it much easier to handle imo. Good idea on the material aging test!

      @@LuisGabrielPhotography To me the Selens is only product, which might be an alternative to Broncolor (Parabolix: too cumbersome, Bron: to expensive, Godox; light quality is not similar to a parabolic reflector (probably due to fabric used here). So I am interested in the Selens only. I would appreciate to get more information about the built qualtiy and the fabric used here. And I would appreicate if you would give us your assessment about longevitiy (since I have to build and break down the reflector very often). Hello. I actually have been using it for about 5 months now of almost daily use as I mentioned on the video. That includes many outdoor shoots in harsher environments. At the year mark I will be updating as well or if anything breaks before that As far as alternatives basically for me there is only 2...the Selens which is to me easily the best alternative and the other only alternative will be the Parabolix. Nothing else I have seen is even close.

    • @codyconrad7333
      @codyconrad7333 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I own all the Broncolor color. I also own all of the Selens Edge. I also own all of the GODOX, parabolic, modifiers. Selens look every bit as good as the Broncolor. In some ways, I think they look better. They do a perfect white balance color rendering, whereas the Broncolor color shift into a magenta. There are a couple of stupid things about the Salens though. They do not open as easily only because the plastic interfits have a squared edge.If you file these edges, it would open just like the Broncolor. It is better than the broncolor at maintaining and reflecting a hundred percent of the light back.the Broncolor loses light through gaps on the back.

    Thank you so much for all this useful information! I do have a few questions. Can you comment on the general build quality and may be put them order of general quality/construction (that includes the umbrella itself but also the tilt-head mechanism and focusing rod system; comparing PARABOLIX, GODOX, BRONCOLOR and the SELENS)? Can you comment on the quality of the SELENS tilt head itself: with the rod pushed in all the way (FLOOD); how easy is it to lock down the tilt so it doesn't start tilting on its own; is the little handle plastic or metal - does it grip well.... Also, on the tilt head... I see from the images that it is FEMALE BABY RECEIVER. Is the outer diameter JUNIOR MALE (like it is on the godox) - so that it can be mounted on a Junior stand or better yet upside down on a JUNIOR offset arm? Did you take apart the tilt head: how is the rod sliding inside the tunnel of the head (is it a set of 4 rollers like on the godox or some other mechanism); how well does it slide... I probably have more questions later - thank you so much!

      @LuisGabrielPhotography 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello there. Sorry it has been crazy busy. I am not a materials expert but at least from my perspective the rod system and mounting is a step above the Parabolix for sure. Specially the way Parabolix mounts the umbrella with the Profoto system which seems to always want to come loose a little. The Selens is a more secure fit. The rod is also really solid and well built and yes it grips REALLY good and doesnt take a lot of effort to adjust it either. The Parabolix tends to get a bit stuck at least mini does. It is more similar to the Broncolor on the adjustment. The adjusting handle is metal at least as far as I can tell but I will double check the material with selens and see if they reply back. I have to check on the diameter part as I always get confused with the naming of those..lately I focus more on the photography than on the name of the parts :D No I have not taking it apart not plan to unless it falls apart on me LOL I will let you know if they say something about the material used on the handle.

      @@LuisGabrielPhotography thank you for getting back to me! For the mount compatibility question; specifically what I am asking is: Yes, I see that the system mounts as female directly to a standard male baby pin like the one on a C-stand (5/8 inch); but can it also mount as a male junior pin (1-1/8") to mount into the female receiver on a cine (also on combo; or junior...) stand [this is a feature on the godox system]. From the images on line It looks like it might; but this is not mentioned in the product description. This allows the use of the para on a combi stand without the use of junior to baby adapter. There are several advantages to this. Other than compatibility with larger production stands it is also much more durable: on a combi junior receiver the set screw to hold the para to the stand is part of the stand and not the modifier and is typically all steel with heli-coil style steel inserts. The threads will likely never strip. On a baby receiver system; the set screw is part of the para and often made of cheap soft metal for the set screw; into soft aluminium threads - these will eventually strip under the torsional forces that a parabolic system generates (especially when the strobe head is push all the way out into the flood position)...

    Hi Luis, thank you for the comparison video. A couple questions: • How did you managed to mount the strobe to the Bron Para? I assumed you used a Bowens mount strobe? • You mentioned that the Glow and Godox are somewhat glorified soft boxes, wondering if you could check out the new Profoto zoom rod accessory? It essentially allows users to mount the strobe to fire into any Profoto mount modifier including Octa softboxes, hard reflectors etc. Wondering if that accessory essentially makes any comparable softbox into a Glow/Godox para? Would be interesting to see a video comparison. • Do you know if there is a look difference between the HR and non HR versions of the Bron para? However subtle the difference might be Lastly a suggestion for future comparison videos: a request to put the image side by side as well so that it’s easier to directly compare them. Sometimes clicking back and forth makes it harder to finely compare. Thank you!

    never could quite put my finger on the "zeiss pop" and not many reviewers that talk about it, have properly shown it. you don't talk about it (and have quite a different view on pop), but have shown it exceptionally well here haha. to my eyes the zeiss looks a lot more rounded and 3D, the sigma a lot flatter and as you said with more out of focus parts. recently bought a sigma for my fuji, might try it with a shimmer filter, to make it look a little more natural. thanks a lot for the great video!

    In 2024 - now - i have an Mc11 and a Metabones V here in front of me. As well as a Canon EF 16-35mm f4 L IS. I watched this video and expected that the Metabones adapter - as shown in the video - would produce significantly worse images. I took several shots at 16mm. On the tripod. 100% the same image sections. In a direct comparison you can see absolutely 0 difference in image quality and sharpness - especially edge sharpness. I don't know exactly what was responsible for this problem 5 years ago, I can't understand it - as of 2024.

  • @dance2jam

    Thanks for posting Luis. Not sure this would make a difference (as I don't own any of these, and they are currently don't meet my use case or need), but it seems that Godox recommends only using the AD 1200 pro and 2400p with their Parabolic set of modifiers. Thoughts on how this would have changed your results? You also mentioned you use / have the Mola Demi and was wondering what advantage you find using this heavier, more expensive, larger beauty dish?

    • @LuisGabrielPhotography
      @LuisGabrielPhotography ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I would have to test those to confirm but I don't buy that story. If I had to bet, I would bet against that changing the results. Somehow both Broncolor and Parabolix are just fine with either the ad200 or 600 pro extension head I used them with. Go figure lol Funny you mentioned the Molas as I recently went through a lot of personal testing of all my modifiers including molas and other softboxes and beauty dishes. The Molas surely give a different rendering to my other ones like the old Joel Grimes, glow 25" and other softboxes from glow like 36" They have a dramatic mix of highlights and shadows that give a lot of pop while still giving beauty lighting. In comparison the softboxes looks just flat and dull. The Joel Grimes BD is not that different from the budget BDs to be honest. Just marketing The interesting one was the 25" Glow BD ad it gives a nice light that it's surpsignly more like a Mola than the other BDs. Is not as good but if I had to buy a budget BD right now, that would be my choice for sure. The Molas are hard to explain until you try one. After all my test I love all 4 buy I think I an going to let go the Sollo ad the silver finish is not the best fit for my style so I am keeping the Setti, Raya and Demi. I am also testing the Parabolix 35D with a new material and loving the results btw I hope this made sense as I am replying fast whole a model is changing to continue a shoot lol Thanks!!

      @@LuisGabrielPhotography You're the best and so kind to respond between shoots. Thank you very much. Since I am a new photographer (and amateur), lacking in experience shooting with any beauty dish (silver or white), I'm sure some of what you said needs to be experienced first hand to understand (i.e. the Mola dishes). That said, I did understand the the general points you were making (i.e. marketing of the JG beauty dish - I'd heard that elsewhere as well) etc. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer, because I keep track of responses for future dates (for me to review) as my knowledge base grows and every little bit helps.
