I personally believe that all a lot of people talking about this disc rot are being paid by movie studios to spread misinformation. (Remember they don’t want you to own your movie they want you to pay them every time you watch it, well having complete control over it) I have well over 1000 movies and I’ve been buying DVDs since the first ones came out, in all of my years of watching movies I’ve only had one and not work and it was a blueray after about six months so it was probably not manufactured correctly. If you take care of your DVDs and Blu-ray‘s you should have them for the rest of your life without any problems. (Now that doesn’t mean one or two of them may stop working but 99.9 will work perfectly fine in another 20 years)

Just picked these up after some research and it was the best $70 I’ve spent in a long time.I was 7 when Star Wars debuted and I still remember the opening scene. I stood in line for 2 hours and saw the movie at least twice before it left. I’m never getting rid of these discs and I’m okay with the reduced quality. Until Disney releases them again, or 4K77 becomes more easily accessible, these are the best representation of the original theatrical releases available that I’m aware of.

It's definitely not going away, I think it's going to lean more into how vinyl is being sold... A sort of collectors item. Also physical media seems to be getting a lot cheaper, because paramount is going to start to release these cheap 4 in 1 movies for only 11 bucks each? Like you get a 4k disk, a Blu Ray disk, a DVD disk and a digital code all just for 11 bucks? For a physical media collector that's a dream come true. So yeah, it's not going anywhere.

considering the concerning trend of modern reboots seemingly being written by someone that just seems to hate the fans of a legacy series, just uses the series as a counseling session (looking at you velma), or just reads a brief description and then decides to toss everything because they know better. well I have concerns. heres hoping that the reboot if it ever comes is made by people that care and want to preserve the legacy over people who want to stuff it full of their preaching

In Australia we don't have the large market in streaming. I built my physical media from second hand shops and I was surprised at what I got. I have a large DVD collection and a lot isn't available in streaming plus it will never be removed it's mine forever.
