    I don't understand why there is no equivalence between the US DOT certification and the CE European certification. If they are just different labels for the same levels of safety standards then they should work out cover for each other. That would help consumers in both areas. Thanks for posting.

    When filling let's say a 6.8 liter tank with a Yong heng in increments of how many minutes you recommend? In increments of 10 or 15 minutes you think?

    • @jmarkreed

      I don't think I've ever gone over 15 minutes. I keep a close watch on the temperature. Ultimately, it's all about keeping the temp under control. Thanks for watching.

    Hi just curious, why do you need to build the pressure before opening the tank valve?

    • @jmarkreed
      @jmarkreed 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sure. If you just open a tank without a check valve, all the pressure already in the tank will flow back toward the compressor and potentially destroy it. By building the pressure in the hose to the same pressure in the tank, you will prevent that from happening. If the tank has a check valve preventing backflow, you can go ahead and open it. When the pressure in the hose exceeds the pressure in the tank, it will begin to fill the tank. Thanks for watching!

    ONE comment, great Video, but you should never hit the power switch on the Yong Heng with pressure in the lines. ALWAYS turn the unit on and off with the bleed valves open, otherwise you can toast your compressor. Thanks again!

    • @jmarkreed
      @jmarkreed หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you very much for your reply. I really appreciate it. Anyone who knows me knows that I am an intensely curious person. I have to constantly learn something new. If you have some time, I would love to hear of your experience with compressor failures due to that. I don't have a check valve to prevent the backflow of pressure from my tank when filling. That's why I don't open the bleed valves on the compressor. It seems to me that opening the bleed valves would cause a tremendous back flow of pressure that would hit the running compressor harder than just stopping it for a few seconds and closing the tank valve. I would certainly loose some amount of stored pressure from the tank by opening the bleed valves, but how much is impossible to calculate. Probably not enough to ultimately matter. At the same time, by stopping the compressor it must bear the full force of back pressure from the tank for at least a few seconds. The system is closed at that point, so there is no direct flow either way. I don't know. It's a hard call. If there are clear cases of compressor failure by doing that, I completely agree with your assessment. I've been doing the same thing for years without any problems, so it may, or may not be a significant risk. I may have just been fortunate. Love to hear more from you and others with their experience. I especially like to read comments from engineers who can calculate these things. My training and background is in medicine, so I am not adept in doing the math for these type of questions. Absolutely love to learn more. Thanks again for the thought provoking comments!

    I have a 4500 psi carbon fiber tank that takes 98 cu ft of air. Everything was great til I moved somewhere where there were no shops around that could fill it. Any recommendations for filling one of those tanks?

    • @jmarkreed
      @jmarkreed หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well...as with all things, it depends on how much you want to spend. A more "professional" compressor is much better for big tanks- AKA "very expensive!" Alkin, Bauer, etc. Buy once, cry once. A Yong Heng can work, BUT, you have to have a lot of discipline to only fill in short increments. That's what I do with my 98 cu ft tank. Of course, you could also consider a smaller compressor like the GX CS2 (or so) for direct filling of your airgun tank and avoid the carbon fiber tank altogether. Just a thought. Lot's of options.

    What happens if you don’t have equal pressure in your pump and your tank when you start the airflow to the tank?

    • @jmarkreed
      @jmarkreed 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you have an open system (i.e. no check valve to hold the pressure back from your tank) and your tank is full of high pressure, all that pressure from your tank will be forced back to the pump. The pump would then have to hold up against that massive pressure and would likely fail and you could get hurt. Not a pretty sight. Don't go there.

    This video is now a year old. So now that you've had some time using both units, what's been your experience with reliability and longevity on each of them? There's a guy selling a portable gx unit that he converted to taking a Makita 18v lx battery to power it. Because I know putting extra pull on my alternator on my truck, I'm not going to hook the compressor to my car battery. So I like the idea of using a portable, rechargeable, replacable batter, or plugging it into a 110v outlet... Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!

      Thanks for the question. Both units are currently doing well, but I take great care of them. Thanks. I actually use a good Fluke 62 Max Industrial Infrared Thermometer gun as well as the internal temperature gauge (digital) and they essentially read the same when I'm measuring the hottest part of the metal. I'm sure neither are an exact measurement, but I bet they are pretty good reflection of the actual high temps. Obviously, the main point is to keep it as low as possible and never let it get out of control. Thanks for watching!

      @@jmarkreed I'm sorry, I didn't mean to mock your tools. But just given the physical principle of measurements no IR thermometer can properly measure on bare metal. And they all have problems focussing on a small piece. How did you use the internal thermometer? By theory the air must be A LOT hotter than this. I'll try my own measurements soon! ;)

    Another thing many people do not understand is “duty cycle” and how it relates to whatever electric tool they are using. Most people I say the words “duty cycle” to don’t know what it refers to at all. Compressors especially will fail due to overheating , I can just imagine how sensitive those 4500 psi compressors must be. The smaller sized ones I mean. Your videos are most helped, I think this is the third one I’ve watched at this point.

  • @noonespecific9463

    People don’t realize how dangerous compressed air can be, especially at the pressures relating to the pcp guns. I just bought a new rifle with 2 new tanks that I would like to keep moisture and/or contaminants out of. I also purchased a small compressor that has a tiny in line filter , doesn’t look like it’s enough, my tanks were filled once by the place I bought it from when they tested it. It still contains what’s left of that first charging. I don’t understand these guns and tanks yet , but if it’s possible I think I’m going to release the remaining air from the tanks and pull a vacuum on them and hold,it long enough to evaporate any moisture present and start over with a leased nitrogen tank or something. I already lease oxygen and acetylene tanks for my work, so adding something else shouldn’t be a problem. There are probably inert gas choices, lol, I know nothing about these guns I have a feeling this is going to be more expensive than I expected. Most things like this normally are though🤣. Wow. What a great question. I'm not going to have a great answer for you since I don't recall at this point, but know that I always consider costs and do extensive research before I buy anything. Know also that anyone getting into PCP airguns is going to spend far more than they think. It's really an addictive hobby/passion that lends itself to getting a lot of stuff. Nevertheless, most don't mind opening their wallets to buy a ton of fun. Ultimately, that's what it's about. Over time, the cost of shooting airguns will probably be less than powder burners considering the differential in ammo cost, but the initial costs will likely be much greater, especially for higher-end guns and air compressor setups.

      Although your tank may have a "built-in" pressure gauge, depending on the quality of your tank, it may or may not be very accurate. Having a separate dedicated gauge is not a bad idea. At a minimum, you can compare gauges to see if they read the same or not. Dealing with extremely high pressure, it's a good idea to be as accurate as possible. It's just another layer of safety. Thanks for watching. I use the "gold filter" that many others use. I ordered mine through Amazon. It has molecular sieve to get the water vapor out before it gets to your tank. I also use a water/oil separator filter before the "gold filter" to get most of the condensed water out. You will probably find some debate about using something like that, but I live in a high humidity area and can see the benefits when I open it during the filling process. A decent amount of water comes out. I don't think it hurts to have it.
