Playbook - The Art of Asking the Right Questions
The single most underrated ability for a product builder (product managers, designers and engineers) is the ability to ask the right questions. This is part science and part art. This was reinforced for me recently while talking to my son who is at an age where he asks questions non-stop. But I realized that the answers weren't as important as the act of asking questions and his ability to arti...

Playbook - 3 Must-Read Books on Mathematical Thinking
Mathematical thinking is at the core of both analytical and systems thinking - two forms of thinking critical to the world of product building. But how does one go about building a foundation of mathematical thinking? Even smart people fundamentally suffer from a form of math illiteracy - innumeracy. We do not understand the math around us - both in the offline and online worlds. In this video,...
Playbook - 5 Must-Read Books for Product Managers
There are a lot of such lists out there. And picking just 5 books is a difficult task. However, I have tried to pick books that help in developing product thinking while providing relevant frameworks for product builders - product managers, designers and engineers. These are books that will help shape your thinking, decision making, understanding of human psychology, ability to write well and d...
Playbook - Building a Product Health Dashboard (Metrics 101 Follow Up)
Just like doctors measure specific vitals when you walk in for a consultation (blood pressure, heart rate, etc), a health dashboard for a product measures and displays the most critical metrics for your product - metrics that showcase the health of your product. This is the dashboard you should look at first thing in the morning. In this video, we will take the example of a made-up gaming app a...
Playbook - Always Ask (Best Career Advice I've Received)
This is a video on the best career advice I have ever received: "always ask". We hope that the organization we are working for and our manager is always looking out for us. But sometimes this is not the case. You have to go out of your way and express your ambitions to the people around you. You have to tell them that you are ready for primetime. Having these crucial conversations is critical t...
Playbook - Making Career Decisions - Bracketed Problems
Making career decisions is incredibly hard. How does one decide to stay or leave? The Bracketed Problems framework can help with this decision-making. Bracketed problems are timebound, with clear beginnings and ends and well-defined success and failure parameters. They help one avoid the sunk-cost fallacy.
Playbook - Evaluating a Job Opportunity
How does one evaluate a job opportunity? What are the various factors one should look at while thinking about a new role? Is the thinking different if it is an early-stage startup vs an established company? And of course, the most dreaded question of them all (usually asked by a recruiter): why are you excited about this role? This video describes my framework and criteria for evaluating a job ...
Playbook - Product Roadmap Shapes
Every product roadmap has a shape. And this shape is very closely connected to the stage of a company's life-cycle - early, post product-market fit or late stage. But a lot of companies pick the wrong shape and the wrong way to deploy their resources (money and people). This can be disastrous. Find out the shape of your product roadmap in this video.
Playbook - Weekend Reading - The Psychology of Money
Financial decision-making is a lot messier in the real world and nothing like the way economics textbooks make it sound. Human emotions and psychology play a huge part in the way we think about money and the decisions we make. Morgan Housel is a wonderful writer and The Psychology of Money is one of the most important books ever written on the topic of money and personal finance. Enjoy this seg...
Playbook - Rethinking the Minimum Viable Product
For decades, product builders have been using the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) philosophy to make successful products. However, the term has been corrupted by many practitioners to the point where it has become an excuse to make subpar products that don't serve any purpose. This video provides a different lens to look at the MVP philosophy - build products that are: (1) beneficial, (2) complete...
Playbook - How to Read More Books
Reading non-fiction books is a superpower. It allows you to gain from other people's expertise, opens up new areas of knowledge and creates new intersecting insights. In this video, I talk about why it is important to read more non-fiction and also share my tips and tricks (my personal reading stack) for reading more books every single year.
Playbook - Learn from Games - Difficulty Curves
Games have played a very critical role in my journey as a product builder. I genuinely believe that playing games and understanding how they work can help product builders become better at their jobs. In this series of videos, we will try and learn a set of product lessons from the world of games. We are starting with the concept of difficulty curves.
Playbook - Practical User Research
User research is a hyper-specialized field and the spectrum of user research methods can feel very daunting to someone who is building their first product. But user research is important for all product builders - designers, product managers and engineers. In this video, we will discuss two practical user research methods - user interviews and usability testing.

Why don't we start with Why. Is it because Why needs deep probing, getting into the Why space would need us to be flexible & clear of all the biases of our mind, Is it because it forces us out of the comfort zones of our mind & requires us to dwell deeper into the real world complexities/equations of the problem itself - meeting large number of people /covering a sizeable potential market space, which faces a particular problem, questioning them to dig out the actual pain points, empathizing with their problem, putting ourselves in their shoes, it will require us to be grounded & humble to understand a problem in its entirerity & zeroing in on one priority area to create a solution,.

Content is good but not good enough. Anshuman is not guiding us how to build the mindset or show how build the Product deconstructing by examples and going deeper. He is just putting across the high-level / surface-level questions as anybody does. Content lacks depth. If this content is to be useful, the content has to help somebody become a master at deconstructing or direct him/her towards that with the right framework, approaches, many examples, exercises etc. It should guide or show him. But content talks on a surface level. HOW is missing.

Thank you for the video. Liked the inversion and upstream-downstream thinking. I also use this technique when users ask for features. If people said we want faster horses, Henry Ford could ask What would faster horse do for you? People might reply that will help us save a lot of time. Then Henry ford can brainstorm how else can i save time for these people and ideas could be faster horses, better roads, new mode of transportation etc.

Sure. But most folks get into problem solving. Given poor D1 retention, they will start solving for a notification system and getting users back to the product.
