Bane is so interesting to me because in all the time I've been around the Batman block, I've only seen ONE adaptational version of him that I felt had any meat to his characterization/story, and that's from the CW Gotham show. But BTAS and the Schumacher film version are kinda just...there, and Dark Knight Rises was unfortunately the first piece of Batmedia I saw and I thought my reaction to it meant that Batman as an IP wasn't for me. I was wrong, of course, but that should tell you the negative impact the Nolanverse left on me, especially when it came to how they portrayed Bane as what came across, to me, as a confusing mess. Like, I've heard for all the trilogy's flaws, Joker and Scarecrow are actually decent, but MAN, that Bane left a foul taste in my mouth. So when I started The Batman, I was at least glad to see that this Bane was made with a sense of fun and coherent motivation. But...then he kinda just went into the wasted potential pile for reasons you've spelled out. They hint at more with him and never deliver, and he's confined to only one episode. When I think back on that ep...honestly, it's not even that memorable to me in terms of Bane. It actually stands out to me more for how it handles Alfred - IIRC when Bruce calls Alfred to come get him because Bane left him too broken to get back home, Alfred has a direct flashback to when he was called to pick up Bruce after Thomas and Martha were shot, and that's POWERFUL. But that speaks far more to Alfred than to Bane IMO. So then I'm like "well, surely all Banes can't be wasted potential" and BTAS and Schumacher continued to underdeliver on Bane (and let's be clear: I actually love the camp of the Schumacher movies and I *mostly* love how they handle their villains, but Bane is the ONE that doesn't even capitalize on the campy fun factor the way that Ivy, Freeze, Two-Face, and Riddler do). Gotham's worked better for me because they actually let us get to know him as a character before even doing his origin story (me slowly realizing "WAIT, THIS GUY I'VE BEEN GETTING TO KNOW FOR THE PAST TEN EPISODES IS BANE, ISN'T HE") and developed a connection to him and another major character by making him an old friend of Jim Gordon. Which probably isn't the most comics-accurate move, but at least it was SOMETHING to latch onto instead of another backstory that was either blank or just not memorable to me. I have no idea why Bane is one of the hardest villains for DC adaptations to make interesting, though. Because I feel like this is a pattern. Definitely feel free to disagree on any of the other versions I've talked about - maybe you like them, and that's great and means that at least those incarnations landed for somebody. But these days, when I see a Bane turn up, I'm like "It's a 70% chance I'm never gonna feel like I actually know who this dude is" That said, the faceless black bodysuit design is SO noir and I love it. Classy as heck.

The theory of Gordon taking on the Bat Mantle is alittle far fetched... however what if he just used it? Taking Scarecrows Fear Toxin as part of the Police tactical equipment and letting them think Batman is still on Patrol hence the Futuristic and yet hellish costume.

note: this episode was writtten by paul dini, one of the guys that worked on batman the animated series. He clearly liked this character.

this version of him appeared very little on this show. maybe because they fought he was too violent and it would interfere on the toys sales.

this version remebered me a lot of the beware the batman version. but people forgotten that killer croc is also inteligent, even in the animated series version.

The court theory is amazing like your probably right about them being behind everything I mean they were not mentioned so they must be quiet behind the scenes and fit black mask how would he get the original mask off his face 😂

You forgot to mention that she gave terrible advice to her patients, like telling one to simply give flowers to his girlfriend and a girl to disobey her parents and run away with a boy who was forbidden to her.

I love the theory that the court of owls was behind it all, I FREAKING LOVE IT. Too bad they might never make a game, or preferably a DLC, where we see arkham batman fight them.

I admit the abuse not being in the relationship is refreshing but this does lead to Harley never breaking up with the old clown. But of course the break eventually leads to HarleyXIvy but in this series it probably wouldn't happen Ivy is underage in this series plus it's clear what each of these characters care about in this series

She is a major character in the franchise she just didn't get many stage time to show what she is fully made off

I love this take of Harley. Sure I do enjoy the BTAS version or the Halrey Quinn show's take on Harley Quinn. But I felt for me Harley being a entertainer psychologist made sense than being a psychiatrist. Not only did Harley here was more naive it made much more sense she was manipulated by The Joker. And while she isn't as sympathetic unlike the original I felt this Harley was more fun and bombastic. Also I prefer Harley's voice actress depiction Hyden Welch unlike Tara's Harley Quinn. Still miss Arleen Sorkin Rip for voicing Harley Quinn.

Loved the remix of the Harley Quinn story in the series. Hynden Walsh is perfect successor and brings something new and interesting to the role. And they managed to keep some elements of that previous dynamics of the BTAS Joker and Harley.

Honestly, I really liked this show's take on Harley. Dont get me wrong, BTAS Harley Quinn, voiced by Arleen Sorkin (RIP) will always be my favourite Harley Quinn; however, I think this take on her being a former TV show psychiatrist is a unique reinvention that keeps her origin as a therapist while finding a new way to tie her to the Joker, also Hynden Walch does a great job voicing Harley and doesn't make her sound too annoying. I do like how they establish how this Harley is just as chaotic and not willing to take people's s*** as she is misguided and naive such as how she tames Joker's hyenas, yet she still falls for Joker's manipulation as he just uses her as a tool to have fun while also manipulating her vulnerability and resentment over her former tv executive boss's to fuel her hatred and once she gets in trouble he ditches her even though he still chooses to keep her around because she's always been entertainment to him both on TV or in real life Harley Quinn is just Joker's jester whenever he gets bored and sadly Harley fails to see how far shes let her hatred get to her, and now shes stuck a the Joker's lapdog

@- Ughly - Hyden Welch was amazing as Harley, I wish she was used more often and she actually sounds a little more similar to Arleen Sorkin compared to Tara Strong.

I wish she were in more episodes but I can say that with all the villains.

I always found her design, specifically ss Harleen, quite hot. Also we van all agree this backstory makes a bit more sense; she didn't had a proper doctorate so it makes sense she was manipulated by Joker quite easily. Sure it's possible that in BTAS Harleen spent a lot if months with him at the adylum, but even then i find too unrealistic even for a fictional universe that a professional psychiatrist would fall so easily for a person to the point of turning on a life of crime for them. This is why in my dc universe u would depict uer as a professional who doesn't really fall for Joker's manipulations ( altrough she really belives his "tragic backstory") but she gets assaulted by Hugo Strange and Johnathan Crane when she finds out about their unethical experiments with patients, she is forced to inhale a prototype of the fear toxin and she's hit hard in the head. During an evasion Joker finds ger abd brings her to his hideout, and all the clown members of the gang convince her that she's one of them since she forgot a lot, and her dynamic with Joker would be like in this 2004 cartoon, not abusive but sometimes neglectful by Joker's part and ge clearly sees her as just a tool.

This interpretation of Harley isn't my favourite. Not saying she's not done well but she just annoyed me too much. I do prefer the abusive relationship she and Joker usually has because she has the chance of breaking away from him and standing up for herself but I can see why they didn't go that route for this show. Also Arkham

Great video! Just wanted to point out something about Solomon Grundy in Arkham Knight. If you pay attention to the I'm game lore/ stories, in the lore about Grundy, he's being kept by Wayne Enterprises until he suddenly awakens to the dismay of the workers in said lab or morgue. So, according to THAT, Grundy had awakened and his whereabouts remain unknown in the Arkhamverse. 😬 Definitely, a Goosebumps inducing update. And proves that you really CAN'T kill that ugly sonovabitch. 😂

Definitely my favorite depiction of Killer Croc. So...I don't want to turn this into a bashfest for BTAS Croc, but I'm watching BTAS on and off with a friend, and ooooooh that Croc makes me miss this one so bad. I love that the design is more animalistic to really lean into the theming. I love the voice and how he's intelligent and on top of things. I actually have new appreciation for the circus aspect of his backstory - normally I don't mind villains doing nasty things, but BTAS Croc being horrible to the circus freak troupe was just unlikable for me, so to go back to this Croc and find that *he* was a victim of a circus troupe feels like vindication. I love that Team Penguin actually was a place where he was willing to at least try to get along with other villains (...if you know, re: BTAS Croc, then you know). I keep sleeping on how good he is, but honestly he's just a very fun portrayal who I find incredibly satisfying.

I'm usually not the biggest fan of an animalistic Croc because it kinda takes away from the fact that there's a human in croc that was a victim of abuse and it makes him too similar to the lizard,but here it works perfectly given his different less sympathetic origin and how Matsuda designed him to look specifically like a monstrous crocodile instead of just any reptile (the snout and triple irises for instance)

I have a hero oc who sidesteps the sentuent clone issue by just being a hivemind.

His look at first is not bad but after with all the red skin? Man it would have been better if the grey look was kept with just a little more muscle.

Rag doll, black mask and magpie make great Catwoman villains. Magpie is like her pure evil counterpart

This adaptation of bane is really good,but my favorite is his voice actor (finally something that isnt the design) he did a really good job with bane in this universe Side note: his design is also really good but his venom design reminds me of that one alien from ben 10

Arkham Origins Bane #1.Man's such a multifaceted THREAT from making a army that everyone in it loves him,making better & weaker version of his serums,seating up his own cumputer system,useing hos conetion to find out there a hit on Batman & taking itseating up base without any gov. catching on,to leading an army into a max sercrity prison without knowing it!Really shows why task force would want him.

The show's fatal mistake when adapting Bane was one Batman writers do all the time: making Bane a big dumb brute. Batman kept honing his skills so that he wouldn't need the Batbot anymore,even reaching a point where he taught Robin how to take him on,but all what Bane did was...robbing banks and get electrocuted (his exact same strategy in Traction)? as far as adaptations go though,this one's decent; his appearance is menacing and he's kinda smart,and it can always be worse (*cough* Batman & Robin)

I wonder if instead of creating mass from nothing, the device actually pulls the same individual from another near-identical universe. In such case, the minor differences in personality are easily explainable. Imagine that when you press the button, you have a 50% chance of pulling a duplicate or being whisked away into an identical world as a duplicate. Since the copies have the same memories, you would not be able to tell the difference until you are sent away.

Seeing Joker buff with Bane's venom was long before Joker became Titan Joker in Batman: Arkham Asylum years later! And I bid my farewells to Kevin Conroy, who voiced Batman in BTAS & The Arkham Games! 🦇🌹😢
