Welcome to my Filipino-American kitchen where I cook, bake and decorate cakes. My family is based in Hayward, California (Bay Area). My husband and I were born and raised in the Philippines, raised 2 American-born sons. It’s been challenging to cook for two cultures. My cooking is now a mix of Filipino, American, Italian, Mexican, and Asian recipes. Now I share my favorite recipes that I learned growing up in the Philippines, and recipes I’ve adopted , adapted and developed since migrating to the US. My husband is not an everyday home cook but he has his own cooking repertoire which he will be sharing too in this channel. My older son has shown interest in cooking and has started cooking his favorite foods, be it from scratch or semi-homemade. I want to teach him how to cook which is adapted to being a millennial kid...that is fast , simple, quick and easy food preparation. The recipes we will be sharing are easy enough for home cooks like you and me!
#38 - HOW TO MAKE PINEAPPLE FLOWERS
These dried pineapple flowers were made 5 days ahead so there should be enough time for drying. The whole process is a combination of oven drying to take out most of the moisture up to a point where the flowers develop a golden yellowish color, and a little brownish on the edges, watching it carefully that they don’t get too dark. The second stage is air drying at room temperature to hold its shape by taking out more moisture while maintaining its nice color.

#37- HUMMINGBIRD CAKE: A tropical treat with banana, pineapple, coconut and walnut.
มุมมอง 2802 ปีที่แล้ว
As a gardener, I welcome the sight of hummingbirds in my garden, hovering on flowers, sipping its nectar. They play with the water on my sprinkler. So when I came across a cake called Hummingbird, I got curious right away why this cake is named after these cute birds. There are several versions. One is the cake is sweet enough to attract these nectar-loving birds. Another one is you would hummm...
#36 - HOW TO PLACE CUSTOMIZED EDIBLE IMAGE ON CAKE
มุมมอง 1112 ปีที่แล้ว
Edible images are images printed with edible ink onto edible icing paper. These images can be placed on cakes, cookies, and cupcakes. Edible images are just like any other image you can print. The only difference is the type of ink and paper used. There are hundreds of available images to choose from, covering everything from Disney to Marvel and your favorite sports teams. You can also have yo...
#35 - UBE CHIFFON CAKE (Purple Yam Cake): With Ube Jam and Macapuno Filling
มุมมอง 7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
One of the popular Filipino cakes is the Ube Cake. My take on this purple yam cake is a basic chiffon cake flavored and colored with Ube flavoring extract. The cake sponge is very light and airy. The cake has 3 layers of filling made of Ube jam and Macapuno strings mixed with whipped topping. The frosting being used is whipped topping which is less fatty than the regular dairy whipping cream. F...
#34 - PORK CHOP WITH BALSAMIC VINEGAR-SOY SAUCE/QUICK & EASY!
มุมมอง 3653 ปีที่แล้ว
Pan fried pork chop is one of my go to dishes for weeknight dinners because it’s quick and easy to prepare. And so with the sauce, just balsamic vinegar and soy sauce, a little sugar and red pepper flakes. Balsamic vinegar is a favorite condiment of mine because I like it’s mellow tartness and slight sweetness. I use it in different dishes. The pork chops used here are bone-in and boneless to c...
#33 - HOW TO MAKE MAMON TOSTADO( Toasted Cake): Twice-baked Cake/ Filipino Merienda
มุมมอง 1.6K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Mamon Tostado is one of my favorite afternoon snacks that goes very well with coffee. It is simply a twice-baked Chiffon cake. My take on this popular Filipino merienda is not individually baked Mamon but a whole chiffon cake cut into thin slices and baked a second time at lower temperature to give a delicately crunchy light golden brown finished product. Once you start eating it, you don’t wan...
#32 - Dreamy Moist Chocolate Cake: With pudding-like frosting/Easy frosting and cake decorating!
มุมมอง 3863 ปีที่แล้ว
Now a days, a lot of people shy away from eating cakes for health and diet reasons. Yes, cakes are highly caloric. But as the cliche goes, life is too short not to eat cakes. We can still enjoy the sweet pleasure of cakes in moderation. If it’s just for family consumption or celebration without guests, I make only a small 6 “ cake for our family of 4 that can serve 8 slices. After 2 dinners, th...
#31 - CASSAVA CAKE: With Langka & Macapuno Custard Topping
มุมมอง 6793 ปีที่แล้ว
Cassava Cake is a popular Filipino dessert or merienda made from grated fresh cassava. Cassava( Manihot esculenta) is a shrub grown in the tropics and subtropics for its starchy tuberous roots with other names such as manioc or yuca. Where I live, frozen grated cassava is available in Filipino-Asian stores, and fresh cassava tubers are also available in American and Mexican grocery stores label...
#30 - MUSTARD AND DILL SALMON
มุมมอง 1333 ปีที่แล้ว
Salmon is one fish that’s often on my menu because it’s very versatile, easy to cook, and a good source of omega-3 fatty acids which can improve cardiovascular health. This recipe is very simple and easy to prepare that can be done in around 30 minutes. The Dijon mustard with its tangy, sharp and strong flavor gives this dish a little bit of a spicy kick, while the dill weed provides fresh flav...
#29 - UBE (Purple Yam) JAM: Ube Halaya /Quick & Easy!
มุมมอง 8483 ปีที่แล้ว
Ube Jam is a popular Filipino dessert. It is also called Purple Yam Jam, Ube Halaya or Halayang Ube. It is simply made from boiled and mashed purple yam and other ingredients like milk and sugar. There are other recipes of Ube Jam or Halayang Ube which are added with other ingredients like coconut milk and cheese which are high in saturated fat. My recipe is very simple with just the basic ingr...
#28 - Panko-Fried Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura
มุมมอง 4463 ปีที่แล้ว
Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura is my all-time favorite Japanese appetizer. I fry the shrimps differently from the vegetables. Both are dipped in wet Tempura batter but the shrimps are coated then in Panko (Japanese bread crumbs) before frying. This makes the shrimps more crunchy and stay crispy longer. For easier and faster preparation, I use packed frozen shrimps that are already headless, devei...
#27 - CHICKEN LOMI:Filipino-Chinese Noodle Soup
มุมมอง 2133 ปีที่แล้ว
Lomi is one of various Filipino noodle dishes of Chinese origin. This is a thickened soup made up of thick egg noodles with meat, with or without vegetables and finished off by dropping and swirling in an egg. My simple version of Lomi makes use of chicken as the protein portion. It is a quick and easy noodle soup that can be done in less than 30 minutes! Recipe card is at the end of the video.
#26 - FRESH LUMPIA: With Homemade Wrapper and Sauce
มุมมอง 3723 ปีที่แล้ว
Of the three kinds of Lumpia, Fresh Lumpia is my favorite...a comfort food. Compared to the crispy fried Lumpia Shanghai and Vegetable-Meat Lumpia, Fresh Lumpia is deliciously refreshing and light because it is not fried. The Fresh Lumpia recipe that I developed when I came to America is an adaptation of Fresh Lumpia I ate in high school as a snack after school, and the giant Fresh Lumpia Ubod ...
#25 - PORK DINUGUAN: Lean Pork Blood Stew

Pork Dinuguan ( Pork Blood Stew) is a savory dark- brown Filipino stew made of diced pork, internal organs/ entrails cooked in pork blood, vinegar, pork broth with garlic , onions and chili peppers. Different regions in the Philippines have different ways of cooking dinuguan. Some recipes have added vegetables like bamboo shoots or sayote. My recipe is using only lean pork as the meat portion. # 24 - HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE GANACHE CAKE
มุมมอง 2164 ปีที่แล้ว
Chocolate Ganache Cake is simply a chocolate cake glazed with chocolate ganache. Despite it’s French name, ganache is not elaborate. It is simply chocolate melted in heavy cream. Depending on the ratio of chocolate to cream, and the temperature and consistency of ganache, this simple recipe can be used in different ways: to glaze a cake, to fill pastries and cakes, to pipe chocolate roses or ot...

Hi il keep everything same just skip pineapple wil i b able to make it still an also can i use 1× 28cm round springform pan
@@mehjabeenjable3632 Hi, thank you for watching my channel. Yes, you can use a springform pan. This recipe is for (2) 10 inch x 2 inches round pan. A springform pan is usually 3” high so I think you can use (1) 28cm x 7.6 cm. Maybe with a little extra batter that you can bake in a small pan(?)
Wow
Hello po Chef, pwede po ba after mixing the ingredients ilagay ko sa ref sa chiller tapos pagka-bukas ng umaga e-steam ko na?
Yes, pwede. Thank you for dropping by.🌻
@@felicity-kingkitchen1628 ❤Thank you so much Chef.
That hummingbird you captured flying is so beautiful and love the added walnuts here and coconut, would love to see how you made the beautiful pineapple flowers too 👍
Thank you for your nice comments. I just uploaded video#38 on how to make the pineapple flowers.
Please show us how to make the pineapple flowers. Thanks Ang God bless
Uploading it tonight…
It’s uploaded now as video#38- How to make pineapple flowers.
Wow!
In Bohol this kind of suman is called dinomugan. Some people use leftover cooked rice (bahaw) to mix with the bananas to make the suman.
I haven’t seen my Bol-anon mom used left over rice in Suman. That’s interesting!
all purpose flour is being used here as one of the ingredients instead of finely ground rice. I suggest adding some grated fresh coconut to make it tastier.
Thank you for your comments. My parents are from Bohol and spent summer vacations in Loboc. I know what is Dinomugan, and the fresh coconut with it. Yes, it’s tastier. From time to time we get pasalubongs of Suman saging from my husband’s family in Pinas with no coconut. I’ve come to love it just plain and simple, adapting to the busyness of life here in the US.
Great video, needed this to learn how to lattice an apple pie top I have been itching to make, thank you!
You’re welcome! You can do it!👍
Thanks for sharing, please what can I use in place of the tapioca.
Hi Eunice! Thanks for watching. As substitute for tapioca(granules), you can use cornstarch, cassava flour, potato starch, all-purpose flour. You may have to make minor adjustments to your original recipe..
This looks so yummy and pretty!
Thanks for watching!
Pano po kung wlang tartar ano po pede ipalit?sana mapansin po
Hi, Jenny! The purpose of cream of tartar is to stabilize egg white to make meringue. The common substitutes are white vinegar, lemon or calamansi juice in the same amount as the cream of tartar in the recipe. Thanks for watching.
cream of tartar is a very common thing you can buy from the grocery.
always wanted to know how they do this, looks so cool 👍 ❤
Thanks for watching!

Mouthwatering
What a perfect cassava cake with both the macapuno and the langka together! yummy, I like your presentation, the best things about the cassava cake recipes is no one will get wrong in the process, cassava cake is akin to relationship that is full of forgiveness (you do wrong and it will not let you down), I've have seen lots of cassava cake version everywhere I go, and people add or omit lots of different things with and still will came out perfectly tasty as cake like cassava. I bet that if a chef will even just put water with it and bake, it will come out perfectly moulded like cake, my point is this, no one can ever say that your version or my version is wrong, it just like the perfective of love or the beauty in the eye of the beholder. With that being said, I would like to invite you into my kitchen channel and see my beholder's eye cassava cake recipe and see my I would say version or twist with it, who knows you my like it and click buttons here and there (you know what I mean) or forgive me about my version, God Bless!
Thank you for your nice comment on my recipe. I agree with your views. Real cooking is being creative with what you have ...with what motivates and inspires you. I’ll drop by your channel.🌻
very interesting recipe how you have to bake it twice and great that it makes 60 pieces, looks very soft and moist, perfect with a cup of coffee 👌😍👍

Hey Auntie! Where's the chicken on sticks?
You mean Pork BBQ on sticks? I’m still thinking if I’m going to publish it.
huh just in time! I’m planning to cook this tomorrow. Thanks
one of my fave...kare-kare!
Where’s the coconut? I thought it’s one of the main ingredients because your title says, “Mango-Coconut Cake.”
Louisse Alvarez It’s just to finish the bottom part as a garnish that when you eat a slice, you can taste a sweetened flaked coconut.
At the nearend of this video you can see that coconut flakes was being added at the bottom part as a garnish.
Simply beautiful - cakes and music! This is so relaxing to watch.
it looks yummy & well done 👍🏻
thank you!
Mmmmm !
