Very first cussler novel i read at about 7 years old circa 1984. Love Dirk and Al

22 minutes in and im commercialed out.

This is one of my favorite Cussler novels. He clearly wasn’t an expert on steam locomotives though-no crack passenger train would have been pulled by a 2-8-0 Consolidation; those were designed for slow freight, like anthracite coal. In 1914, a more suitable fast passenger train locomotive would have been a 4-4-2 Atlantic, a 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler, or a 4-6-2 Pacific. Still, a great Dirk Pitt story with some cool plot twists!

This was the first Clive Cussler book I read, heading on my way to basic training over 20 years ago. Still my favorite.

I hate female narrators

Oof. The very next paragraph: "The Starbuck was like a thoroughbred jumper at her first horse show, "chafing at the bit, ready to show..." The saying is: "Champing" at the bit, not "Chafing". Good Heavens. Three minutes and 22 seconds is as far as I'm willing to suffer through this though, I'm afraid.

"capable of cruising at 125 knots, through the timeless depths at 2,000' beneath the..." Ahroo? Cruising at 125 knots? Uhh, I'm not a boat guy, but isn't that awfully speedy? That's 144 mph lol

Screw you and commercials every 4 and 6 minutes! 🖕
