How do I buy you a coffee?
I'm for the UK and I can't say I've noticed any connections between Barbour and far right here. I do see Barbour at the football (soccer), mostly Barbour lnternational. Although it certainly exists in some of those circles, I wouldn't say football lads here are predominantly far right.
Can you do a video to explain your group.
GREAT VIDEO! Classic Preppy yet 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love the research you put into your videos. I had no idea how the oilcloth and waxed cotton were invented and came to life. I like to combine my Beaufort Barbour with a thick woolen sweater or a tweed jacket. Gives me a British countryside feeling while living in the US Midwest.
Unfortunately, these coats have cuaght on such that you have a category of young men buying these who don't "get" what they're about, the history, etc. and wear them with some gaudy, clunky modern sneakers, skechers or whatever. When wearing these, first do no harm 🙃
Great job, however I think I caught you saying "paraffin wax, aka beeswax". Maybe just a slip of the tongue. Of course those are two very different products.
A splendid video thanks for sharing Joseph. You gave me some great ideas. Greetings from Amsterdam.
Great outfit ideas, but there is something fundamentally unsettling about that house!
It looks to me like a fraunch shat-oh!
👍👍👍
Outstanding Joseph! thank you
The Barbour Sapper is a nice middle ground to Belstaff -- not as edgy, but not as potentially fuddyduddy as a Beaufort. The breast pockets and standing collar give it a more urban look too, especially in black or navy.
As always, another phenomenal video. Really look forward to when you post!
I love that you explain oil cloth vs waxed cotton from the start. I think a good degree for the public mis-information comes from companies still using the term oil cloth well after they switched to wax. I have a Barbour but if you let the wax wear, tends to look like a standard field jacket if you never knew the brand. It looks more proper as a Barbour when you have a fresh coat of wax on it. Thanks for the styling tips. love old school rain gear.
Amazing as always!!
Just beautiful! Right up my alley! Thank you for sharing, Joseph!
I recognize the first two tartans, but unsure about the one w' the red / yeller stripes. I have the matching hat for that heavy Stewart tartan jacket, but don't know where t' get the jacket. I imagine it's plenty warm w'out the raincoat o'er the top already!
My waxed cotton is a bit more no-frills and about a size too small, but should be fine for casual use if I e'er get the right weather for the thing, but I mostly let the coating dry out so I could use for hiking and such but found it a bit cumbersome for hiking and such compared t' lighter weight military twill, etc.
@@Highland_Paddyno offence, but you should know that affecting skipped letters by replacing them with apostrophes (and thus not saving any effort, but making it harder to read) can come across as somewhat forced.
Sir, how did you get onto my land?! Absolute cheek! Honestly, one can't get the staff nowadays...oh, yes - remove oneself forthwith!
A very interesting video. Certainly, a lot of effort and skills must have been behind this rich and experience-reflecting content. Thank you very much. ❤❤👏👏👏
As a man who just bought a Barbour Beaufort another well timed video from this channel
What serendipity!
Once again I find myself thoroughly appreciating another excellent video shared by you. Thanks!
Looks like a Barbour jacket was his go-to for sometime as well? Great video - lots of research went into this!
Bean seems to have been a bloodthirsty hunter who needed to kill animals to feel like a real man. On the clothing, not sure what it is but this stuff looks less country squire and more suburban dad.
The fad is bad. Stick to classics. Avoid clothes that try to hide the body.
Very nice
Keeping up with the spirit of this video, you should consider a "rugged Ivy"/"Heavy Duty Ivy" video!
I would love to see you do a demo video on how to tie a necktie properly with a dimple. I've seen a few, and I'm still struggling mightily. 🙃 Oops, I spoke prematurely, you do several demos in this video ! Thanks ! You are awesome ! ❤
Ordered the middle aged man blue fits and the middle aged man edgey black fits :-) Links would be very helpful. Love your videos, so damn helpful for us gentlemen! Thank you.
Excellent video ! We need more !
I've never heard of "PreFall", but this perfectly describes the "Fall" months in SoCal. Sep-Oct are some of the hottest months of the year, and it's not uncommon for us to use our AC on Thanksgiving. This always made dressing for the season tricky - the calendar says "tweed and layers", but the local climate still calls for "linen and shorts". This is the "How to dress for 'Fall'" video that's actually applicable to my own taste and locale.
I'm a metalhead who wears only dark colors, leather jackets, and skinny jeans with combat boots. I've never ever considered a preppy style but i came across this video and highly enjoyed it. The history lesson along with visual ideas on how to dress preppy was top tier. Maybe even inspirational! Might need to buy an oxford shirt and chinos lol. And wear my bullet belt around it!
Well, finally Nantucket red was mentioned, with the Murray Toggery Nantucket red hat. But it would be nice to get a Part 4 or addendum video on all about Nantucket reds. With an origin history like this, it probably deserves it: "...inspired by the red sails of boats off the coast of Brittany, France. In the 1800s, Breton fishermen would tan canvas sails with tree bark tannins to prevent mildew. The sails would fade to a red hue over time from exposure to the sun and saltwater. The fishermen would then use the leftover canvas for clothing..."
Well hopefully Nantucket reds will be covered in Part 3, since it wasn't mentioned in 1 or 2. The host mentioned frayed, worn denim, faded by seawater. And that made me think of the origins of Nantucket reds. According to my AI search: ".....inspired by the red sails of boats off the coast of Brittany, France. In the 1800s, Breton fishermen would tan canvas sails with tree bark tannins to prevent mildew. The sails would fade to a red hue over time from exposure to the sun and saltwater. The fishermen would then use the leftover canvas for clothing".
Will Nantucket reds be covered in the future parts? A few of the images shown in this Part 1 showed Nantucket red, but the narration simply said "primary colors".
Men’s corduroy straight leg pants and original Norwegian sweaters are staples. I live in Santa Fe and the hunting boots, Made in Maine, are essential in winter. They have offshored most items since the 90s and some quality and sizing is hit and miss. I still have the field coat with liner that keeps me warm in almost any temps. Hiking socks are top notch.
I've tended to avoid mid and light grays in the past as my skin tone looks much better with warmer colors. But the camel coats paired with warmer French grays looks really nice! I'll have to revisit grays in my wardrobe...🤔
This is super aspirational.....
I would love to see some kinda LL Bean capsule wardrobe write-up
Excellent vid!
ure legitimately a channel that is very stylish and informative. I wish you great success and prosperity here. please keep it up!
Excellent video! The way Jeff articulates the dynamics of each outfit-color, texture, combos, etc.-is masterful and makes you want to intentionally dress better and apply his style techniques. With an American classic foundation, each look has a unique aspect. It’s like having a private menswear coach in your corner!
*Joseph
Well researched, informative, articulate, and inspiring to listen to! What a great new voice for mens styling, with a classic American foundation! Awesome videos!
Great video Joseph. Nice touch to include the history of LL Bean and describing how the iconic boots came to life. Keep up the good work. LL Beans stands for me for two things. Best quality Oxford shirts and knitwear. I have two of their Oxford shirts and they are of great quality. Soft to wear and easy to iron. They are the best on the market. I have a shawl collar cardigan and two of their crew neck wool sweaters. Everything made of 100% lambswool. Keeps me really warm and insulated during harsh Wisconsin winters. I do not mind washing it by hand. The more annoying part is to wait until the sweaters are air dried and it can be worn again. I know people who would forgo the experience of the great LL Bean knitwear because it cannot be machine washed. They have no idea what they miss.
I didn’t see you call out trouser brand. Where can we look for a pair of the grey flannels?
@@pweidinger whoops you’re right - they’re an old pair of Ralph Lauren dress trousers from the tailored clothing department - in the stores they sell them in with the more formal suitings. Here’s a link to this years version it looks like they’re mostly sold out - www.ralphlauren.com/men-clothing-pants/-wool-flannel-trouser/0046216958.html?CSE Or Brooks Brothers www.brooksbrothers.com/classic-fit-wool-flannel-dress-pants/MJ00413_____GRY1_32___32__.html?georedirect=false&MJ00413_____GRY1_32___32__&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD_MDk29jgpUx9aXo0ZJhzyS7L_2q&gclid=Cj0KCQiA6Ou5BhCrARIsAPoTxrBtQcpcMLBPhJabQb-I6zu_eY2xe59gFx8ryCzZ1WPog-lulSS62EUaAjBMEALw_wcB Or Spier & Mackay www.spierandmackay.com/product/mid-gray-flannel-trousers-9898-nt01 They’re kind of the investment pieces since they’re usually made with a good quality wool, but there’s almost no sport jacket they won’t go with, so they can really be a super versatile piece to own! Of course keep an eye out on eBay too, but not always the easiest to find!
Another great video Joseph. Keep up the good work.
Awesome video! Really displayed the wide range of this historic brand
Thanks, my man! Covering all that they offer is kind of a huge task - I feel like I could do it all over again and not use the same pieces twice! I'm glad you enjoyed!
LL Bean was an iconic brand selling American made products, sadly, their boots today, are about the only product they sell, still made in America.
Yeah - and I think the tote bags too...but this is kind of a reality of all clothing manufacturing at this kind of scale. Sometimes I try to remind myself that getting stuff made from different parts of the world isn't all bad as long as the brand does it responsibly and keeps USA made as an equal contender. And its funny, cause I remember getting USA made stuff in the 80s that was kinda crappy too! 😂 But it must've been cool to be there in the early days when domestic stuff was sturdy and built to last!
@SomeNotesonStyle I usually look for pre-owned. I worked in mens clothing for a number of years(1977-87), knowing what to look for helps.
I’m not as familiar with LL Bean, as I should be because I grew up in the southwest. Now I know I need some of the items you mentioned 🎉
Yea, to be honest, I grew up in Texas - so sometimes i might've gotten an LL Bean shirt for Christmas or something, but I never realized that on the East Coast, this brand is a solid staple. I always find their shirts and sweaters to be really good quality for the price - but like I said, their catalogs are huge, you should go to their website and sign up for a catalog, fun to get in the mail sometimes!
Thank you for another great video, and I really like your insights on retail methods and designer methods, gained through your practical experience. This for me is your USP when compared with other similar content. And, yes - the doggy on the sweater! Subscribed and clicked the bell!
Nice! Much appreciated, I'm so glad you enjoyed! Yea, I'm glad to hear that comes across - I mean there are certainly a lot of great TH-camrs who have really quality content and style, but sometimes I hate to watch folks who just tell me this is a great piece over and over without any context or explanation. Thanks for joining up - glad to have you aboard!
Please continue to do the paper dolls! They're really helpful and jump start my own creative juices in a way that magazine photos alone can't do. 💡👍
YEAH! This is so great to hear - honestly the best compliment I can get is to hear that y'all are inspired to mix up some outfits after watching one of these vids! I promise there'll definitely be more to come!!
