Thanks, and with decimal values after dot or comma, doesn't work... could you load values with decimal digits ?
Do you have a video using global change to update the budgeted expense cost, actual expense cost and remaining expense cost to zero.
I have not made a video for that. But thanks for the idea!
Building a project is relatively easy, the challenge is updating and reporting. Is there any tools for this?
I've been working on doing a tutorial for updating the schedule with ChatGPT. Long story short, I haven't been able to get a consistent outcome or successfully perform a project update. It's close, and I'm sure as the AI improves it will be easy to perform updates and generate reports. As of right now though, it is not a reliable way to update the schedule.
How about reporting?
Is there any procedure to get the schefule as Primavera XER format, instead of microsoft project?
@@karamhasan2474 I wish! I'm waiting for that one. You can't get it directly as an XER file. There are likely ways to convert the MPP to an MPX, which is importable to P6. Or, I believe you can generate an XML file. I haven't experimented with it yet though.
@@karamhasan2474 th-cam.com/video/8HBHDHeD19o/w-d-xo.html Here's the tutorial I made regarding converting MPP files to P6.
Hi patrik, how can i get the Total Project percent progress after updating Activity percent complete in primavera. Thank you
Why schedule was not baselined before applying actuals?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Please keep updating more videos
Thank you
Many thanks for sharing your knowledge. However, this is only pure progress - what about comparing non-progress.
Hi Patrik! How I can reach out to you? Do you have any mentorship programs? I am familiar with p6 but never had a chance to employ it at work and working as project scheduler. I want to learn as much as I can the tricks and techniques could you please help me with that?
Hi Arshia, that's very kind. Yes, I do 1 on 1 training. Email me at info@pjmscheduling.com and I'll connect with you with more details.
Hi Patrik, thank you so much for providing these series. I have a question regarding constraint (star on or after), why we don’t use finish on or before constraint instead? Thanks again!
Hi there, using finish on or before constraints will cause all preceding activities for the activity with the constraint to calculate float based on that "finish on or before" constraint, instead of calculating float based on the project. Both constraints have their own uses though.
how we update resource loaded schedule in p6 any video you can refer?
What-if the project finish date does not match with reflection schedule after merging updates?
@@liaqatkamran6394 You'll need to be able to explain why there is a difference between the two files. Typically, it's because there were relationship or duration changes downstream of the delay event. If those helped mitigate the delay, that should be explained. If they exacerbated the delay, that should also be explained.
Hi Patt ! How is your budgeted units= 40 . When your duration= 25 days.
Hi Saud, ignore the budgeted units in this example. Those were auto-generated when the resource was assigned. It depends on what the default units per time is set at for the resource, and it will auto-generate a budgeted units amount based on the duration. If the duration gets changed on the activity, or if an activity is copied over with the resource, it will retain the original budgeted units that was generated when the first activity was created.
@PJMScheduling what's the default units /time in this exampl?
@saudpm40 I believe it was 8 hours per day. Or 1 man per day.
@@PJMScheduling so 8×25 should be 200 budgeted units? Pls tell me if I am wrong
@saudpm40 that would be correct. As I mentioned, ignore the budgeted units. This was not an exercise about utilizing budgeted units, and there are a variety of reasons it could be different from what would typically be calculated based on default units per time. I.e., I may have changed the duration, copied over the activity from another and changed the duration.
perfect and thank you so much
Hi Pat, thank you for this! Really useful. Why do we choose Free Float instead of Total float in the Schedule options?
If we were to use Total Float, we would get different answers because Total Float is based on the Project's longest path. Also, total float can be altered by constraints. Free float is the amount of time an activity can be delayed before impacting its successor, whereas Total Float is the amount of time that an activity can be delayed before impacting the entire project. Since we are focused on intermediate milestones, we want to focus on "free float" to that specific path.
Super tutorial! Thanks!
how can we do it on Golf Course if we have 1200+ items and these items must be divided into activities having certain percentages, Can you help me out on this
It's a great question. Yes, I can. Feel free to submit a request on pjmss.com. In summary, add the durations of all 1200 items and then divide each activity's duration into the total to get a % complete for each activity. Then, multiply that % complete by your budgeted cost. This will give you your budgeted cost for each activity. Then, import those expenses from excel into P6.
how can we do it on Golf Course if we have 1200+ items and these items must be divided into activities having certain percentages, Can you help me out on this
very useful thanks!
I am attempting to do the same but I am facing difficulties: _ When copying as instructed, I get shifted unorganised data. _ The data obtained on P6 is not logical. The maximum number reached in the "Cumulative Remaining Late" section does not reach the budgeted total cost. I would greatly appreciate your help with this.
I really appreciate your way of explaining it.
this is useful for most of lumpsump construction project, another way cost loading without single resource load
Thank you so much
Very straight forward and clean...it's been a few years since I've used P6 - but I may need to go back to it - good stuff. Thanks.
I have a question. you just copied the BL sch. file and start updating it without assigning/maintaining BL. What should we do if we make an update for the next month? I mean which file shall we copy; either the BL file or UD 01 file to update it for UD 02?
You would copy Update # 01 to make Update # 02, then Update # 02 to make Update # 03, and so on.
This is fantastic, thank you!!!
Pat great video! I'm having issues with importing the Price / Unit with the resources? I have Price / Unit selected as part of the export following what you provided here.
Make sure that when you export into excel from P6 that you select the resource assignments bubble and not the "activities" bubble.
great one
Great video. What if you're trying to find the top ten driving paths to a milestone?
is there any turorial about shipping delvery and supply on project?
I have not done one regarding delivery of materials on a project. What are you looking for specifically?
@@PJMScheduling I have multiple trucks and drivers to manage and plan their load and delivery destinations. also multiple machine with operators to plan their workload and back-to-back replacement. It may be close to make up a planning for factory production for example. it would be great if I can find a template.
What is a "child" is not being created below our project? For me, it keeps adding not "child" WBS. Also my indent our outdent arrows don't function.
Make sure that when you are in the WBS section, your "Group and Sort" is set to "Default".
In the baseline that is the month of June and the have actual finish dates of even Jul., please can you explain this?
completely unhelpful
Very well explained in a neat and simple way... thank you brother...
Thanks for the wonderful video.. Pls, I have a question. QUESTION.. What is the best way to cost load a project? Is the the export to Excel and Cost load or through resource in Detail view in Primavera P6. Thanks
What happened to assignments 6 to 9?
its sad that, no control+F2 :(
That’s the best tutorial video ever. Thanks.
how do we set up a one-on-one session?
My manager after reviewing construction schedule on P6 commented “ several activities are riding the data date”. What does that means? Can anyone explain please
It means that all of the predecessors are completed for the activity. Therefore, there are no more active predecessors that are preventing that work from occurring. Only the data date is preventing the activity from occurring. This either means that the activity has to start immediately or should be re-tied to a different predecessor to give it a more accurate projected date.
@@PJMSchedulinghow is the data date preventing an activity from happening, isnt the data date just a date to measure the past progress? For example if the data date is 15th April so the P6 data is telling us what was completed on and before 15th April right? So if the activity is schedule to start on the data date how is data date driving it.?
@@niheerthakur4128 You are correct, but all remaining work is calculated from the data date. If you move the data date from April 15th to April 20th, then all remaining work will be calculated based on the earliest start date of April 20th. For example, if you have an activity with no predecessor relationship, and you calculate the schedule, the start date for that activity will be equal to the data date. That is essentially what is happening when your manager says there are activities "riding the data date". All predecessors have been completed for that activity and, as a result, the projected start date for the activity is equal to the data date.
@@PJMScheduling ok I understand it now but what is the right practice to follow here to avoid this. I mean if the predecessors are complete and the current activity should now ride the data date. What should be done here or is it nothing wrong to have activities riding the data date?
@@niheerthakur4128 It depends. If there is literally nothing preventing the activity from starting and it is simply not getting done because it's low priority, then it's fine to let it ride the data date. But if it's riding the data date due to inaccurate logic, then I would tie the activity to an appropriate predecessor so that it is scheduled to start when you plan on getting work done.

I had worked on a project A, adjusted its headers, columns, footer, titles etc, taken print outs and closed this. Then I worked on another project and I deleted old project and its enterprise. The second project has different title, header, footer etc. The problem I am having is when I try to access my First project A from .xer file it opens up in new settings even I added another enterprise to that. Can you please help on that
Hi, where are the remaining assignments from 6 to 9? Do you also have other practice P6 projects?
Thanks for the Excellent Video! I got an issue though. My original duration always changes whenever I update the activities with a different actual start and finish date to the baseline but doesn't change when the dates are same as the baseline. Please what am I doing wrongly?
My guess is you have the resource setting checked called "Drive activity dates by default". This can be checked at both the project level and the resource level. So my question would be, #1 - Do you have resources assigned to the activities. #2 - If so, make sure to uncheck the "Drive activity dates by default" on the resource assignment. That should take care of the issue.
When I upload and generate files from your link. It says there was a problem, please try again.
Send me the files at info@pjmscheduling.com and we will take a look.
