    Not the pinnacle - a debacle. Absolute junk. Running so fast (like more that the timegrapher can measure) it's not actually a watch.

      @watchluster 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If you don't have any other watches, the Seiko5 series is a great starting point as you can sort of feel your way through their lineup and see what works for you. The 5 series has a wide variety of watches and once you find your 'style' in their varying designs you'll then be able to step up and buy a Prospex watch knowing what your tastes like. I personally went straight for the Monster series and upgraded into Prospex line up after but I think going to the 5 series probably would have made more sense but back in those days there weren't that many and most people of my time went to the SKX first then went to Prospex but I never did personally. Look far and wide, there's more to the watch world than just Seiko though admittedly I am still a hardcore Seiko fan through and through.

      @watchluster yes their is something about seiko that draws me in. I do like seiko 5. Three hands are a bit confusing because I don't travel abroad, seiko prospex. Sumo looks good. I will let you know what I choose. Thanks for getting back to me.

    All points valid. Keep your knife light and your watch heavy! . I love this watch and your review of it. It spends most days longing for my wrist from the dark confines of a dark and thick walled safe. Tactical Frog/Heimdallr/ Thorn (are they all the same company?) ...are making one for about $100. It's likeness now once again being worn as a beater (the shame!) as that $450 I paid for the original (2nd hand) sometime after it was released ....is now worth closer to $2k? So it stays in the safe until I feel it is time to release it back into the wild....when they are VERY rare like my SNZF11 white dial "Sea Urchin"😂 Like the red barchetta I sneak away and slip it on enjoying it's pure luxury...the feeling it gives me makes me think I'm mental....glad there's people like you out there letting me know I'm not insane.

    • @watchluster
      @watchluster 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for your words Agilewolf, you hit the nail on the head. The watch is pure luxury in hindsight of how things have turned out in the world. You simply can't find anything like this for the prices it demanded back in the day and funny enough most people thought it was over-priced, over-hyped, or just skipped it altogether as it didn't look 'conventional'. Fortunately for people like us that like things a bit different from the norm, we can really appreciate these quirky styles and as time will tell they will truly become collectibles in the long run. With all things considered, the watch still really captures the sport and the dress and the dive all together in one watch and yes I can criticize the incohesive design but that's what really makes the watch interesting and different than other watches that just does one of those three. All the best from Vancouver, Canada.

      Yes it truly is. I love the over-complicatedness of the watch but the sleek look of it all and the integration of the different finishes of grey and dark grey really combine to make a stunning watch. Hey that Sharp Edged is my second favorite watch 😭 Not that i disagree with you on the value front, Seiko kinda lost the plot. I just don't understand why they don't wanna dominate the low-end market while producing more expensive models as well. Isn't the affordable segment an extremely good market-segment to own?

    • @watchluster
      @watchluster 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Beats me Phillip, I think Seiko had a good thing going and they just ruined it by trying to be more than what they could at the time. Bit off a bit too much? In retrospect now, I think overall they made the right decision for themselves but for us consumers, it wasn't the right move and yes if you have the funds it's still decent but it's nowhere it used to be for value. All the best and there are other makers that do fill the market, check out Citizen and Casio for Japanese and of course there's Hamilton for the Swiss.

  • @Bob.martens
    @Bob.martens หลายเดือนก่อน

    I started collecting in 2018. Just before Seiko began it's 'upmarketting' identity crisis: raising prices without really upping specs, QC or accuracy... A brand new +1000$ diver now still has mediocre bracelets, bracelet integration and a shitty clasp. Their +800$ dresswatches have 'leather' straps that feel and look like plastic cardboard. Their 'top' 6r35 movements have a 70 hour PR, but gain over 2 minutes in the last 25 hours of that PR. They all have out of the box high beat error, over 1ms (problematic) is not exceptional, and may run over 30 seconds per day fast on the wrist. I haven't bought a new Seiko in Years. Only pre-prospex second hand. Presages were ok at 350$, but at double they are still too thick and too big to be a good dresswatch, with dials and hands not legible enough to be daily drivers.

    For me the Sumo is still too elegenant, it does not screem BIG. The case is very elegently designed. However, the most important thing i like on ths sumo, is the professional bezel. The left and right flanks of the case protect the bezel from being accidentally moved. And the bezel mechanic is perfectly balanced to prevent from being accidentally moved. Therefore I lik the Sumo very much.

    • @watchluster
      @watchluster หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes I like the Sumo very much as well. Still a great watch, just has to be worn with a fairly secure strap or heavy enough bracelet to balance the weight better or else you'll find the watch itself just droops down too much. All the best. -Martin

    I think this watch is Amazing, Fantastic, Superb! I’m already waiting for my OR2. This watch is almost as good as A Rolex Sub, but I went to once purchase a Sub, but got the run around, and put on a two year waiting list. They can shove their waiting list, I’m tired of playing games. Rolex loses, and I’m sticking with John! I hope more people buy from Ginault, and Rolex suffers from lack of demand, and interest , because of the game playing. Love the video, and I concur.❤️👍👍✌️

    That was my very favorite watch review, ever and that's not hyperbole. Seriously, that was art - a laid back yet heart warming story about a guy and his watch with lots of unique story telling character. So, I have to ask you - do you have any experience with the SBDC085 - the so-called "Darth Mas"? It's the exact same watch with a black DLC case, midnight blue fume dial and a greenish yellow outlined minute hand? I own one and it is a sublime owning experience if I may say so. I actually picked it up brand new, from an authorized dealer for $395.00 delivered in the fluke of a watch buying lifetime.

      Different prices I'd say...Oceanking V3 is $3580 USD. Ginault SS ranges from $1,499 ~ $1,799 USD. When I first was looking around this time, yes for sure Monta did come across my radar and I almost would have pulled the trigger but they were out of stock. I'll be straight with you. Monta has always this old look to them not in a good way either, their designs are very boring and generic to my view but there lies the greatest comfort in watch collecting there's always the right watch for you, just so happens that it's not right for everyone.

    Great job on the video! I really appreciate all the effort you made with the filming and editing, very professional work. As for the watch, I’ve had a SS for nearly a year and totally agree with your objective assessment and review. Out of my collection, this is one of my top 3 favorites in any price class. Despite the controversy surrounding whomever is behind the Ginault brand, they are clearly a talented watchmaker. When I consider this watch on its own merits, it punches well above its price range. Of course, a watch purchase is an emotional and personal choice. For me, the Ginault Silent Service is a winner. The quality, finishing, feel and accuracy are exceptional for the price. All I can say is, whoever is behind the brand knows how to make a damn good watch. Thanks for doing this review.

    100% agree, the lume just doesnt hold a charge, also you can see how thinly it is applied on the hour and minute hands.

    Very lovely review! If you still have it, how has it held up after a year? I heard the movement tends to have long term issues at times, but Sugess seems to be one of the higher quality alibrands afaik.

    • @watchluster
      @watchluster 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi yes I still have it, and yes it still holds up after a year. The only problem being that I have noticed when I do a full-wind it has happened on a few occasions where it stops all of a sudden. And I need to wind it another click to start the mainspring again. Most likely has something to do with the tight clearances needed for a watch to function and having experienced Chinese made goods for most of my life I think I can fairly say that perhaps the quality of goods coming out of said country isn't as good as possibly other renowned watch makers in other parts of the world. Of course you can just pay 20 times more or worse for those other watches. I of course chose this....and of course as a watch lover I have all varieties and to be quite frank this watch is just as good as most other watches. Basically Sugess makes a good watch but you have to keep your expectations in line when buying from said brands. Cheers and all the best from Vancouver, Canada.

Interesting, I'll keep that advice in mind in case I encounter a similar thing when I get an ST19 movement myself :D Agree that budget comed with compromise, and also agree that such compromises are usually acceptable if expectations are kept in line. @@psth3932 Nice mate, you'll enjoy that Sumo I'm sure greatly. Alpinist has always been on my radar and I absolutely told myself I would but the charm eventually faded. I was at that time looking for THE green watch but eventually as you know I ended up with the Sumo instead. Going with the green I assume? The compass ring never appealed to me and made the watch look too utilitarian for my tastes. All the best, and it's raining cats and dogs today here :)

    It’s a nice homage piece. With those macro lens shots you can see the finishing on the hands and indices isn’t wonderful. At this price point it’s normal. But nothing extraordinary. If you look at Monta or Formex you’ll get better finishing overall. This is my opinion

    • @watchluster
      @watchluster 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, the Monta and Formex will get you better overall fit and finish but you also tend to pay more for those offerings. I debated the Monta but none was available that I liked and also to be honest it was a bit too mature for me in terms of aesthetics or at least that's what I thought. The Formex has also crossed my mind but I never got along with their utilitarian look so much though they do offer some nice decent casual looks it really wasn't for me I realized. Good points and well received. All the best from Vancouver, Canda. -Martin

    Nice review fellow new-ish reviewer! I do agree about this watch-the band is almost certainly a premium quality import. But the watch head itself is one of the very few American made pieces and the quality is top notch. Maybe they did make Rolex apes, but I am with you that people change and if you take this watch for what it is, it is excellent.

    • @watchluster
      @watchluster 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey WatchDanReviews, welcome to the 'watch' channel club :D Yea it's for certain that the band is an import or at least sourced to the 'right' type of people that do that kind of work :) Speaking objectively the watch is a beast of a watch and can pretty much top any other watch in this price range and more so as much as people love to rag on homages and ex-couterfeiters well it's hard to argue against something when it's so obviously BETTER in all regards than most other watches. It is a sad affair but imitation is often times how we all started to learn and as is said is well the most flattering of all compliments. All the best from Vancouver, Canada. -Martin

    Owning 2 3rd gen sumo even having a 6 1/4 wrist with proper adjustments on the links fits like a charm. I was surprised initially. So basically did not buy 2 piece because I feel in love deeply but because I can’t pass on a very good offer. I admit that bought the first sumo hulk intentionally at half the price. It was owned by a European who used the watch as his beater so imagine scratched bezel and all straps have been scratched. Even though with the price he offered I took it. It’s now my beater then suddenly a couple of watch went on sale a sumo hulk in almost new condition and a new Monster Penguin for a price I bought the first sumo. Now I am still unable to modd either of them and still thinking on swapping with another watch. It is a stunning dial but since having 12 divers I am planning to reduce them.

      @watchluster 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi pinikpikantv3555, I gotta agree man, 12 divers?!?!?!!!?!! I think I'm at 14 that's currently in rotation with a few others that are out of rotation and I ALWAYS tells myself that I should reduce and have been for the past 10+ years but sadly the numbers just keep increasing and I can't do anything about that :D Sumo across all generations has something to offer for anyone that has an open mind I think, if you are closed about it and think narrowly about what goes on your wrist then you probably belong to the 1 watch only club. I wear the Sumo and it still gets good wrist time but I have moved on from steel bracelet and have put it now on a single pass leather NATO and it's a bit top-heavy but it's much easier to wear with activities. The top time homage from Sugess is cool too.

    • @watchluster
      @watchluster 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey nicocalimero, totally agreed mate, the top time has a very retro vibe and I've seen it floating around but I gotta be honest I haven't really been into budget watches of late. I did splurge a bit a few years back and I appreciate some of them and still wear them the ones I do have but I am not really into them as of late. Why? Well I can't put an exact finger on it but I guess I just know inside that I have much better and more quality watches to wear so they become a bit of an accessory to the main course. I'll wear them but not as much as the other core collection which gets way more wrist time. I think the budget watch sector really is good if you want to try a certain design of a watch before you spend over 100x the actual cost for the real thing. Overall, I love these Sugess watches but I don't love them enough to wear them on a daily basis though they certainly are capable and worthwhile to wear everyday, just not for me. Cheers and all the best from Vancouver, Canada. -Martin

    I bought the SBDC055 which is the PADI version of the 051 in 2019. It was my daily for about three years, and now I wear it from time to time. I’ve had it in the last couple of days and I still think it’s an amazing watch. It makes me feel a bit sad that these watches were loved for a few years, but then dropped for the newer 62mas models. Your video was very enjoyable and it’s great to see someone still loving their older 62mas reimagined.

      Hi thetrentmeister, awesome to hear that there's a fellow enthusiast for this series of watches. I still wear mine and everytime I go to pick between SBDC051 and the SBDC101 I always, always always, except a few times go for 051. It has the looks and the ruggedness all in one. Whereas the 101 is well sort of lame really, it's like the difference between a sleek machine vs a functional machine that has no design :P I'm sure the argument can be made for which ever watch being the boring one but for me it's always been SBDC051 looking the best among all the Seiko divers' I own. Thanks for your comment and all the best from Vancouver, Canada. -Martin

    I started considering seriously buying either the citizen or Casio Oceanus with GMT. it seems like a good balance between the looks of an analog watch and practicality of a smartwatch. But for the love of god, what is this lume? Who in Citizen thought it’d be a good idea to illuminate only the hands without the indices.

    • @watchluster
      @watchluster 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi aierlspalter7425, I have both as I have reviewed both....and my vote goes to Casio Oceanus. The lume on both isn't very good but that's a given in this sector, you can get better lume with Seiko's offerings like the Astron but those tend to wear thicker than these other offerings. The Casio gets my vote really due to the ease of use and the THICKNESS. I harp on about the thickness of watches but in my daily life the thickness is what tends to get in the way. With or without cuffs, if a watch is bulky you'll feel it one way or another. There's times where sure I'll wear a thicker watch but, as I've grown older I am just getting more senile about the whole thickness thing I guess. Anyways thicker watches no fun, thinner watches is funner, but too thin is zero fun :( All the best and I hope you find the best watch for your daily life! -Martin

      Hi chriscon8463, you hit it man... Interesting to hear that Squale was releasing them before with a diff movement and diff configuration. You are right, for both of us.... It really is a nice watch I just hate the bracelet and if I do put it on leather or something else I just feel like I have other watches that better fit the situation so I'm really torn about this one. I don't want to sell the watch but I feel like it just sits around and stares back at me, laughing at my inability to control my watch purchasing habits. So overall yes I'd like to wear the watch more but I just don't like it so will have to move on. All the best from Vancouver, Canada. -Martin
