Everything Retroid Pocket 5!
Retroid Pocket 5 *BASIC* Latency Test
I had very many requests to test the latency on the Retroid Pocket 5. This is by no means an extensive test. There are others in this scene who can conduct a conclusive test far better than I can.
I wanted to fulfil the request I got asked many times so in this video I record myself pushing the buttons of the Retroid Pocket 5 at 240fps and then count the frames between me pushing the button down fully and when the button registers on the screen of the Gamepad Tester app.
Without an LED or sound trigger, I had to guess when the button was fully pressed which could lead to incorrect data.
Part of me didn't want to upload this video because it's not very scientific but I hope my tests and review of the overall latency feel will help someone out there.
Hope you enjoy and stay tuned for more 'secret console' emulation tomorrow!

Retroid Pocket 5 on TV and External Monitor
มุมมอง 3.4K7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
In this video, I test how the Retroid Pocket 5 looks on external monitors and TVs. It is running on 1440p on the first portable touchscreen monitor, 4k on the computer monitor and 4k on the TV. In all situations, the picture looks great and it runs well, too. The only possible issue I could see was some latency when using a bluetooth controller on the TV. This may be to do with the fact it was ...
Retroid Pocket 5 'Secret Console' Emulation + 2 Big Tips
มุมมอง 13K2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
In this video, by very popular request, I will be showing you emulation of a super secret mythical console that shall not be named. I'll also share 2 big tips I found to make games playable. I hope it'll be a helpful resource for you when you get your RP5! The Turnip driver I used in this video is the following: Mesa Turnip driver v24.3.0 - Revision 9v2 (TH-cam won't let me post links on this a...
Retroid Pocket 5 Windows Emulation
มุมมอง 6K7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
In this video I'm testing Winlator on the Retroid Pocket 5. I am not very familiar with Winlator so these are only initial tests and findings. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I'm very impressed that this is even somewhat working at all and it seems very close to working well. I spent at least 6 hours working on this and I'll dedicate more time to it in the coming days. Hopefully as a col...

Retroid Pocket 5 Unboxing and First Look
มุมมอง 5K9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Welcome to my new channel dedicated to the Retroid Pocket 5! In this first video, we will unbox and take a first look at the device. Let me know what content you'd like to see on this channel! And welcome :)
Does the fan kick on loud?
What's switch emulator do you recommend?
Parappa 1 is definitely a harder rhythm game to test lol Thank you for this!
2:00 you just can toggle the "show overlay" option off ;)
Automatic like. I’ve been searching for a video like this and finally here it is. I want to test these out with XR glasses.
Only one wireless controller seems like a pretty big limitation 😞
So, the RP5 is capable of running the secret console 😅
Could you tell me if you can assign where the audio output will go when you have a usb monitor plugged in? Certain devices seem to want to just force the audio through the USB connection to whatever (monitor) is connected on the other end but there are times I'd want to use headphones connected to the the audio jack while using an external display.
Other possible rhythm games you can use for testing: Any of the Hatsune Miku Project Diva and Rockband Unplugged for the PSP or Amplitude for PS2. seems like it needs a lot more testing to help determine the truth. Because something like Patapon should be an _easy_ test unless it's just not working in the emulator and it should, it's not a hard game to emulate.
How do you install mods on games?
I'll cover this in my follow up secret console video in the next 2 days
🎉
What game is that?
What i love is using AR glasses and the major benefit is that you dont need to change any controller profiles at all. Its great.
The skyrim part is a golden gem
Does it have a desktop mode?
Before finishing this video, I am guessing because of the Oled and 60 hz refresh, there should be little noticeable lag when playing on the actual device. But there will always be more lag when using bluetooth controllers. Any chance, in the future, you can test a dock to a TV with 2.4 ghz dongle controllers? Would be interested if there is a input latency difference. 🍻🤘🏼🔥
What emulator are you using for switch?
Hardly anyone looks at input latency anymore, thank you so much! I am cursed to be sensitive to this, I guess I played a ton of original console gaming in my time, lol, I have not adjusted to the latency of emulation. 🍻
Great video, would love to see how the Retroid dock performs. Appreciate the time in covering topics that aren't always discussed in other videos! 🤘🏼🍻🔥
What Emulator did you use?
I've been looking for a video like this EVERYWHERE thank you so much for making this!
You're welcome!
1:01 RyanRetro1 Great - I love latency tests! You wrote '7 milliseconds / 240 ...' but perhaps you meant 7 frames?
Ah yes - I meant frames! Thank you
I don't think it's charging. It went from 79 to 71 in that video
Yeah, even when I plugged it in with a charger later in the day, it wouldn't charge at all until I rebooted the device. That's happened twice now. The battery issues are one of the main reasons the product has been delayed by 2 weeks. After turning it off and on again, it charges fine.
They also sell a RP docking station. I wonder how well that works of you either use a wired controller on the USB port or a USB dongle and wireless controller..maybe the latency is a lot better then. I can't see myself play action playformers on a TV with input lag. Rather just play the portable handheld then.
I don't think there's any magic in the docking station, it's just a USB hub in a convenient package as far as I can tell.
@RyanRetro1 so you think that if the controller signal goed through the usb of docking station to send a signal to the RP and then a signal on the TV there won't be input lag? Bluetooth is the sole cause of lag.
what secret emulator are you using in the beginning ?
Interesting that it doesn’t just mirror the internal 1080p. I’m wondering now what would happen if a screen with an aspect ratio other than 16:9 were connected
Hey again! Do you know how many milliseconds one square represents in the first game?
I also believe most emulators have audio latency to increase stability and prevent stutters. I just checked Retroarch, and there we have 64 ms on standard settings.
Oled has low latency that’s why I sold my Odin devices because of high latency
THANK YOU.
figo massivo.
@GottfriedLeibniz. 😭😭
When is the drop test video coming out?
💀
is there l3 and r3?
You are a RP5 rockstar. You're the only one making all these great videos. I really appreciate this!
Thank you so much! I'll keep going.
ssd might not working because the file system not ExFAT or FAT32
That's a good point
New horizons works on it? Does stalker work on it?
New Horizons is working great! Haven't tried Stalker
@ I wonder if stalker even exists yet since it just came out a few days ago.
It's a nice test! I would love to see comparison with other similar devices, as well as RG35xx, RG40xx, Miyoo and so on. AND latency tests with a bluetooth controller connected to these devices.
Thank you! Unfortunately I don't have any other devices so I can't do that but I'd love to do something similar in the future of this channel!
@@RyanRetro1 Alright! I like your approach and formula, subscribed, hoping to see more content! GG
Thanks for the vid!❤
You're welcome!
Alright I'll buy one lol
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Your hands are massive lol
The black body color with the OLED screen seems to work very well to hide the border of 4:3 games.
Yep. In this case black all the way
It's the first device I've ever owned where I can't even see where the screen ends and the body begins.
@@franciscobutteI think retroid missed out not making all of the variants have an all black front. You can color the joysticks, rear case, buttons, but the front should be black.
How to play Switch game using this handheld?
Thanks for the video ! It's complicated to know how good/bad it is without direct comparison with other devices in the same conditions 😅
You're welcome! I agree but unfortunately I don't really have anything else to test it against.
I tested my rp3+ and it has 49ms of latency on the gamepad app.
Latency test is very interesting topic. However I think more important latency test would be with cloud or local streaming from PC. Using either steam link or moonlight
I agree. I'll try to get on this soon.
Subbed...the more videos I see on the RP5 the more I like it. ESPECIALLY since Batocera has starting working on it for Batocera 41 (beta of course)
Thank you :)
Nice you are in Seoul too. I'm in Jamsil
Yep! Nice I love Jamsil
Thank you so much for your video, I am waiting for more data about the latency before deciding if I get a retroid pocket 5. If you have the time and the will to do so, I think it would be useful if you did the same test you make with the slow motion camera, but using a well known game running on retroarch, like super mario world, without using any of the latency reducing features. Most tests are on retroarch, so this would make possible for the community to compare the latency with other devices that have tests online. When I had my odin2, I made this test. In Super Mario World on retroarch, the average latency was around 135 ms, but I got individual values varying from 110 ms to 150 ms. Anyway, thank you so much for doing this. Many people won't care, but this kind of test is important ❤
You're welcome! I can possibly try something else soon!
It's surprising to see a map of our country in an unexpected place. Anyway, thank you for reviewing Retrooid 5. It will be helpful for my purchase.
You're welcome
What a flex to use the Raccoon Landlord Debt Simulator game as a prop in this video lol. I'd been wondering whether it would play on this system as I adore that game.
I chose it because I think it's one of the most perfect games to relax with on a big TV
@@RyanRetro1 that is true, but you should lookout for nintendos lawyers!
@@RyanRetro1 beware of plumber guy company
gonna play this on my projector.
Sounds awesome
Great video! I would take this camping with me. What portable monitor did you use by the way?
Thank you! It's one I picked up here in Korea by a company called Crossover.
Citra was the worst offender on my odin2. It felt so much more responsive on my retroid pocket 2s, so I sold my odin2 😢
I agree, I feel that citra latency so I don't play platformers on it with my Odin 2
Citra is one of the emulators I actually haven't touched at all yet. I should give it a go.
Odin 2 have higher latency than other devices.
@@leonardomatheus1888 I wonder why that is, especially since it's so powerful. But I am curious to see how the RP5 compares to the Odin 2
@@SlakOffs Odin 2 have around 110ms of latency. That's probably a combination of screen latency, buttons latency and system latency.
