2014 Seattle SCCA Majors crash during qualifying.
มุมมอง 17K10 ปีที่แล้ว
Skip ahead to 3:50 to just view the crash - Jim. 5 cars down the hill into turn 3 at Seattle's Pacific Raceway during Saturday Qualifying. First two tangle and I get caught in the mess. Biggest crash of my life. The strength of the chassis after we converted it to tube frame probably protected me from a major injury. Thanks to my mechanic Dan Watt and Rod Nielsen of Hot Rod's Restos for buildin...

2012 SCCA Runoffs GT3 by Jim Hargrove, Edited

Jim Hargrove in his GT3 Honda Civic at the 2012 SCCA Runoffs. Lack of HP very apparent. 3rd into Turn 1, 6th into Turn 5. Saw no-one, passed no-one, but still finished 4th, 30 seconds behind at the flag. Working hard to improve for 2013. Edited out the boring stuff in the middle. Note the hassle lapping the 1st gen RX7 - he obviously thought we were racing!

Flag to Flag in car video of thrilling GTL race from pre-grid to the podium. A mistake at the very end of lap 12 costs me a shot at the win, but I still cross the line only 0.5 seconds behind in 3rd place - on the podium! 2nd try. First upload missing video of last 2 laps.

Jim Hargrove qualifying at an unofficial (didn't happen during a race) track record 1:42.695 on the East Track at Miller Motorsports Park on August 5th, 2012. Shifting a little off because no-lift shift not working. Also GPS didn't recognize track, so no track map or lap time.

Jim Hargrove racing to 9th from last at the 2010 SCCA Runoffs. Electrical problems kept shutting the engine off through the race, but I was able to restart it each time by cycling the master swtich. Brand new 2010 Honda Civic Coupe on debut at the Runoffs.

17th to 1st in 4 laps.mpg

Started 17th after missing dry qualifying on Saturday. Drove to 1st in only 4 laps on a wet Pacific Raceway. The Goodyear rain tires were amazing - 1.3g in Turn 3 in the wet. Note the warning lights on the right of the dash. Battery didn't have enough charge for the whole race, and went dead with 2 laps to go after we had lapped almost the entire fied!

Jim Hargrove following Pete Peterson during Wednesday qualifying until massive engine failure.
I have to get to more events to work races
Jeezz what a cluster
Jesus, what a terrible group! Especially for Thunderhill -glad I never had to race there. Nice perseverance drive!
Dang, that was quick
What were you driving?
It's a 1976 Honda Civic prepared for the GTL class in SCCA. Full tube frame, composite body virtually unlimited prep other then engine displacement with is 1373cc with legal overbore.
@@jsharg Very nice! thanks for the reply.
To some exent, though I think your opponent did better with the traffic by being a bit more patient. I noticed that you started working the traffic better after he got a ways a head. But when you guys tried to battle each other while also battling traffic, you ended up dropping way back...
Awesome, Coolest FG2 ever.
Nicely done! How frustrating to pass everyone, catching up to the "leader" and then running out of time. Your restraint was good and you lived another day. Nicely done indeed.
Oh yeah, I love the action at 9:00
Awesome
Pretty violent looking crash. You can really see how stiff the cage is in the video. Glad everyone is alright.
nice!
Excellent line. Great driving.
I'm a Conner work out in Waterford Hills MI. Come from the friendly north Canada to Work SCCA Races and yes that was a hard hit glad to see you boys are ok
glad you are ok but a tip instead of hitting the car and going off the track slow down instead
The kind of thing we all fear - unavoidable chaos. Sorry to see you get caught up in this. Only thing I can take from it is to remember to take my hands off the wheel...
Great stuff! Its always a good race when you are down on top end speed but quick in corners.
Wow Jim that was nuts! Glad you are ok and the car is not wrecked.
Ouch. In serious need of a HANS device.
Chris Doodson in the Honda ahead was avoiding the spinning 510 of Troy Ermish who was avoiding Lans Stout. Just like the camera, I couldn't see it either. First clue something was wrong was the tire smoke from Chris' car. I braked as hard as I could and headed for the open lane, but it wasn't open when I got there. The rest was hang on and wait for the noise to stop. We lost the fiberglass nose, but the rest of the body is OK. The rad is damaged and will need to be replaced, all four corners need to be replaced as well as the front and rear bumper bars, but the chassis appears to be completely undamaged. The skid bars under the oilpan did their job as well, so there doesn't appear to be any engine or gearbox damage. If it was still a tub car, there would have been nothing left.
I like Chris' car for some reason. But yeah, just ended up as one of those hold on and wait for the noise to end moments as you stated. Glad to hear its not a total lost, it looked violent from the video.
glad you're ok... wow what was that honda doing? I couldn't see ahead of him
Jim I'm so glad your ok!, wow.....
Glad that you are OK Jim. Sad that your fantastic car was thumped so hard, I hope it is reparable and will be up and racing again soon.
Ouch. Safety gear did it's job. Seat with lateral head support probably could make such extreme off-roading even safer...
Why don't you have a k20? I assume the air restrictor will be bigger and the car should weight less
Fixing the straight line speed is a big part of our 2013 effort.
Thanks for sharing, beautiful ride, first class, had a chance to check it out in person in '11, too bad about the straight-line speed, I can't imagine aero is a reason.
great race !!
The rear end is a Winters Mini V8 Quick Change. SCCA has too much of a weight penalty for IRS to consider going that route.
A lot.
what type of rear end? can you post a video with some underbody shots or something? very cool car man!
Jim - what happened? Ventilated block? Its a shame - The engine sounded so strong not to mention you were giving Peterson a run for his money!
@DeathMetalKillsEmos 1976 Honda Civic
What kind of car if you don't mind me asking sir?
@AccAkut1987 The K24 powers the rear wheels. We use a 5 speed sequential gearbox from Tractive in Sweden.
does the K24 still power the front wheels? If not, which transmission does it use?
@AutoXcivic The transmission is a sequential 5 speed from Tractive in Sweden tractive(dot)se. There is a 1/2" thick piece of aluminum that bolts to the tube frame chassis and the engine bolts to one side of it, and the Tilton Silver Crown bell housing bolts to the other. The trans is connected to the bell housing by a tunnel that allows room for the Tilton Starter.
does that transmission bolt up to the stock mounts and what kind of transmission is it
It's a lot easier to hear on the video than it was in the car. Anyway, once I lifted in the bus stop, the outcome was already determined.
rofl i heard it comin
Yeah, we pay a lot for our engines, and expect more than the 140 minutes that engine lasted! Jim
