Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 PC - RTX 2070 Super Benchmark
The sequel to Senua's Sacrifice - Hellblade, Senua's Saga - Hellblade 2 just launched and is available on Xbox GamePass. I got it installed and here we benchmark the Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 Super in Senua's Saga - Hellblade 2. We'll benchmark at 1080p, 1440p and 4K, using the game's 3 presets, namely High, Medium, and Low. We'll also be making use of upscaling in the form of DLSS Super Resolution, as well as DLAA.
This game has some odd settings when it comes to DLSS 3 Frame Generation in that you cant use it alongside any other upscaler, which is not the norm for DLSS 3 Frame Generation.
The game uses Unreal Engine 5, and even though it is more often referred to as Stutter Engine 5, the game surprisingly lacks a lot of the stuttering issues plaguing UE5 games generally.
The RTX 2070 Super was a great 1440p GPU when it launched in 2019, so how does it fare with modern Unreal Engine 5 games?
Can the GeForce RTX 2070 Super still run games at 4K in 2024?

    I had a 2080ti and a 8700k. I was torn on upgrading either the gpu, cpu, or both. I decided to go with a 13600k on sale for 250 and paired it with ddr5 memory and kept the 2080ti. My fps didn't improve, but the stability of my games did. Only reason I am not going to upgrade my gpu yet is because I would be upgrading it for one game which is cyberpunk. Everything else I play is from 2020 or older lol

    Hello, I was considering building a pc I found a factory refurb 6900XT for 440$ and a new nitro + 7900GRE for 660$ or 7800XT for 600$. I want to game on 1080P only at good settings and want around 144-180fps if possible. If I were to choose a 7900GRE over the 6900XT I wouldn’t see a performance boost at 1080p? Why is that? Does resolution really matter that much? Doesnt a better card mean more fps or is it because 1080p is easy for both cards? So they will perform similarly? (Paired with a Ryzen 5 7600X) (Paired with a Ryzen 5 7600X)

    • @Mostly_Positive_Reviews
      @Mostly_Positive_Reviews วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey, good question. So firstly, when taking the average between the 6900 XT and the 7900 GRE in many games, the difference is about 7%, according to TechPowerup database. Same games will see a bigger difference, but others wont. But the main reason why a more powerful GPU wont necessarily give you more frames per second that another is due to a CPU bottleneck. Going to talk hypothetically here, not exact numbers, just to explain. Say a 6900XT can do 100 fps in a game at 1080p, and a 7900XTX can do 150 fps in the same game at 1080p, but your CPU can only do 120 fps, you will only get 120 fps. If the CPU can do 120 fps and the GPU 100 fps, you'll only get 100 fps, as the GPU becomes the limiting factor. CPU performance doesnt care about resolution as it doesnt need to render the frames, only calculate and prepare them for the GPU to render. Now say you have a CPU that can only do 80 fps in a certain game, the 6900XT can still do 100 fps, and the 7900XTX can still do 150 fps, you will only see 80 fps with both GPUs, as the CPU just cant prepare the frames fast enough, so the GPU waits on the CPU, and that is what we call a CPU bind, or CPU bottleneck. When a CPU can do 200 fps and a GPU only 100 fps, the CPU waits on the GPU, and that is what we call a GPU bind, or GPU bottleneck. That changes with resolution as the GPU takes longer to render the frames. The CPU can still theoretically do 80 fps at 4K, but now the 6900XT can only do 40, and the 7900 XTX can do 60, so then in that scenario the 7900XTX wil be 50% faster than the 6900XT as your final output will be 60 fps. Purely hypothetical numbers, but that's what it comes down to. Hope that makes sense?

    apart from the 40ms+ latency, i think FG is only disliked due to DLSS 3 being paywalled by the 40 series which are quite expensive. If it was on the 30 series, i think people wouldnt complain about developers being lazy for it

      Yeah, performance for this type of game is kinda unacceptable. Throw in the rubberbanding issues and it's a no-go. I get that it's early access, but you pay real money for a game that's often unplayable. And many other early access games work perfectly fine for the most part.

      I think I understand where you are coming from. Without tweaking the game's .ini files the visuals can definitely look "average". Once the chromatic aberration and motion blur is non-existent the game starts to look pretty decent, but what stood out for me more was the character models. We've seen better lighting, better waves, and nanite have been used in many games, so the only thing that stood out to me over other games was the character models, so I definitely know where you are coming from!

    Love the video! Although I do not agree with some things you said. Usually at 1440p DLSS Quality and Balanced are OK and for a card that is a few generations old at this point are godsend. Also for me personally, playing at around 75-80 fps feels a lot better than playing at 60, so I would prefer the upscaler's visual tradeoff at 1440p. At 1080p I completely agree with you. It's not worth using upscaling at lower resolution. That being said I really enjoyed the video and the benchmarks you did. I'm following the channel for a while now and you put out some quality content!

      Appreciate the comment and honesty! I was mostly speaking about personal preference, and I absolutely hear what you are saying. And that's the awesome thing about PCs, there's a setting for everyone. I usually do say "to me, personally" when I make statements like that, and that people should use what they prefer, and in this video I didnt, but I think it's good that I do in future. I generally play at 1440p Balanced with a 4070 Super in most games, and dont have issues with visual quality using those settings at all. I was more referring to this game specifically where the fps bump going from quality to balanced can be a bit mixed results, depending on the rest of the settings. But I absolutely agree with you, I shouldve worded it better. Appreciate the constructive criticism 👍

    Quick n concise demonstration 👍 I expected worse 1080p performance around 30-35fps not 35-42fps. Not bad for a 5-6 year old GPU, and you didn't factor in higher power limits or overclocking so I'd expect some presets might get a more stable 60FPS if users could push their little engine that could.

    I've been running 2080ti since 2019, it worked perfectly in 4k. all i had too do is turning dlss quality on in some games, but with pre 2020 games it works in 4k with no problem. It's frame rates are very similar to that of 3080, a few frames behind in 4k, and 3080 and 4070 essentially runs at the same fps in 4k, so i would say 2080ti ≈ 4070, which a bit less efficient power consumption.

    i love that frame gen exists I use lossless scaling on games locked at 60 fps that exhibit bugs in physics when unlocking that cap like skyrim, fallout 3, FEAR etc. but dlss 3 on the otherhand while also being great and probably even the best looking frame gen, just eats too much ram for my 12 gb 4070 super. makes games crash when going over that vram limit and even desyncs lip sync even when well over 60 fps base framerate. not saying lossless scaling is better cause its not but in some cases it runs much more stable than dlss 3 plus the vram it eats I found is much less than dlss 3.

    this game had me worried after i started the dlc in dogtown and my pc got to around 85-87celsius and it seemed hot(but as i looked for it it should not be a bigger worry?) I usually go for max settings and dlss quality(a few things turned off always in games like blur vignetting and what wls is in games) fps in video seems like its alot higher vs my own but i dont know what version of game this is??? it is 10fps difference n even more then that i think... Rtx3060 12gb i5 12400f 16gb 3200mhz windows 11 all updates made a few days ago for gpu n stuff so should be latest(like it is a good thing,the 2-3 latest gpu updates have dropped my FPS by about 2-3fps/update so its atleast 6fps lower vs 3-4 versions of the gpu driver then vs now and this just sucks big time when i dont have a super powerfull desktop(Good enough or even more for 1080p gaming due to getting about 50-60fps in all games i played so far 2024 and might be starfield that is only game that is bad fps vs gpu if not using the fsr3+F.G) Found this on google and it seems like a good setting to try out "WHAT DO U ALL THINK ABOU THIS??"!! What is the best setting for Cyberpunk 2077 RTX 3060? Personally, I would turn DLSS to Balanced, turn down cascade shadow range to medium, volumetric clouds to medium, screen space reflections to low and the rest at max. In ray tracing, try turning on RT Lighting or RT Reflections. The RT lighting is a big part of what makes the game look good as is RT reflections. Thanks 4 video

      Hmm, 85-87C is on the high end, and might lead to thermal throttling. Is this on your CPU or GPU? GPU will definitely throttle at those temps as it starts to throttle at 84C core temp. CPU is fine until 100C, but you obviously want to keep below 100C. If you are using the stock cooler with your 12400F then yes, I have also seen it go up to the high 80's, if you can keep it below 100C you shouldnt lose performance. This video was done before Phantom Liberty DLC, and the DLC did bump up the requirements slightly, so it would make sense why you are getting about 10 fps lower than in this video. Dogtown itself is also more demanding than many other areas found in the base game. Those custom settings seem like a good trade-off between performance and visuals, so if you are happy with the framerate at that point I say by all means, go for it!

    I’m kind of in the minority in going against using FG for this particular game when playing on higher difficulty. It’s that when you play the game on Hard difficulty, the enemies are more aggressive and you wanna very quick on attacking, blocking, and parrying so you wanna minimize the input delay when it comes to fighting your enemies successfully. Where as FG does affect some input delay and timing your parries gets difficult. If you’re playing on like Medium or easier difficulty then turning on FG wouldn’t be so much of a bad idea

      It is definitely sharper, but not "sharpness filter" sharper, just more crisp. That said, I have seen quite a few games where using DLDSR with DLSS causes framerate and frame pacing issues. Ratchet and Clank in particular in my testing ran terrible with that combination. I say give it a shot, and if you are having performance issues then just use either / or, instead of both.

    I use a 2070 super too, and I'm curious about a certain topic: latency. I'm playing the game at 1080p ultra with a frame generator, but I notice a certain difficulty in perfect defenses with this turned on. Could you tell me if there are tests on latency on a 20 series card with a frame generator on/off?

    • @Mostly_Positive_Reviews
      @Mostly_Positive_Reviews 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      What is your final framerate output while using frame generation? If it is anything below say 90-100 fps you'll definitely be able to tell there is a difference in input latency. Do you have reflex enabled? What you can do is install Nvidia Geforce Experience (it comes packaged with the drivers), and just open it up once, log in, and then during gameplay press Alt+R. That will bring up basic metrics but will also show you latency. Test the difference between on and off, but it should be around 10-15ms increase at most. Another thing to check is to make sure you arent limiting your framerate to 60 or something by using v-sync or another frame rate limiter.

    • @lieberbarberini3986
      @lieberbarberini3986 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Mostly_Positive_Reviews yes, I was limiting it to 60, that's it then, I use v sinc. As I had never used frame generation, I was using it in this one just to maintain the 60 fps I'm used to.

    • @Mostly_Positive_Reviews
      @Mostly_Positive_Reviews 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ah okay, unfortunately frame gen works very poorly when the final output is 60 fps. You actual input latency will be slower than it would be if the game was running at 30 fps at that point as every second frame is generated, with a slight delay added. FG's best use case is on high refresh rate monitors where you can use vsync with 120hz or higher.

    At 1080p the only thing that is limiting the 2080ti is the CPU. In my example the old Ryzen 2700x is the limiting factor, as it simply cant provide the frames for the GPU to process (not even at a 4,1ghz OC, only 4-5fps gain). At 1080p the gpu usage is 55-60% 😂 its not a bad situation though, as its almost always over 100fps, and this way i can crank everything to MAX settings, and even AA on MAX with supersampling on aswell WITHOUT an fps hit. The only thing that changes is the gpu utilization is up from 55-60% to about 80-85%. So all in all this gpu is an absolute beast for an absolute high-end 1080p experience. It has such a performance headroom that its bearly breaking a sweat at 58-60c degrees after longer sessions. Plus, it also handles a decent OC, i'm running it stable at 2085Mhz at these temperatures (and +400 on the memory). Also i'm using the ROG Strix version of the 2080ti. Its a beast! I'm positive that i wont upgrade for the next few years, because i dont plan on gaming in higher resolutions, 4k gaming for example is very expensive for what it is.

    • @Mostly_Positive_Reviews
      @Mostly_Positive_Reviews 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, I used to own a 9700K + 3070 system and it was almost always CPU bound at 1080p. The 12400F does a decent job, but it still falls short at 1080p in some games, but it doesnt feel right running a 13900K + RTX 2080 Ti for 1080p gaming 🤣 So I agree, even though it is slightly CPU bottlenecked, it's still a great experience, and will still be viable for 1080p gaming for a while. Heavier games will just use more GPU resources, meaning the headroom will shrink as it will take something very graphically heavy for the 2080 Ti to become the bottleneck at 1080p when paired with a 2700X. All in all it's still a great GPU today, even for 1440p gaming, but I agree with your sentiment that it will last a while still at 1080p.

The whole system would benefit from that, the system memory would clock higher (3200mhz ram is stuck at 2833 on the 2700x (thanks memory controller 😂)) , the GPU would have additional support, plus it's still AM4 so i'm good with my old mobo. @@Mostly_Positive_Reviews Best way to reduce lows/stuttering is have a robust enough GPU that you can cap the FPS at a solid/quality level for that resolution, so the GPU only uses about 75% or less of its capacity & has resources to spare for any other tasks/loads that may suddenly come up. Also keeps the GPU running cooler with less component stress & less watts/power required (so less PSU stress also). No need for FPS past a certain threshold anyway unless it is for professional bench-marking competitions or simple bragging rights.
