Network usage throughout the recording was also between 40mbps and 200mbps, but it stabilized at around 40mbps after a few minutes of flying over New York.
Hopefully in the near future Asobo will give us the opportunity to install the scenery locally. With drive space being so inexpensive I would use a 2TB drive just for FS.
@ Why!? Because I want all the data locally on my machine. I have a fiber connection and this things takes forever to load. I am totally against cloud gaming and I never will accept it. One day in the near future whenever MS decides to shut down the servers that’s all she wrote. If I want to go back and fly FSX, 5, 3, or whatever version I want I can.
In 2020, there was an architectural problem that prevented Asobo from enabling FG on multiple monitors at the same time, so you only got it on the one that had the input focus (typically center monitor). I've yet to see anyone check to see if this is resolved in 2024 with the new engine.

I would like to ask you for a test flight, with 4K ultra settings, FG on and off. The test flight location is a dense forest area. I think 2024 uses a different strategy for images beloww 1000' agl. They are AI generated autogen trees etc. Instead of photogrammetry. Looks like buildings might be autogen as well. Shadows seem dark. Please comment.
Only got to play very briefly due to the login queue but it's good to watch this video and confirm that the performance I was getting is what it should be. The game is really heavy, but that's expected I guess. FG is great for this game, but unfortunately there is only DLSS FG and not FSR FG so AFMF might come to the rescue there.

I was expecting Microsoft to take this launch seriously, and the way they changed it so that a lot of the data is streamed rather than locally installed made me think they would have beefed up their servers to be able to handle the load. As time moves forward we keep improving our data storage space not reducing it. Choosing to download everything was a dumb choice IMO. I got a 4 tb 5th gen SSD for DCS World and MSFS2024 and ASOBO pulls this dumb $hit.
Apparently they have a few hundred terabytes of data that they use for assets etc. That's what I read in a blogpost anyway. Hence the move to a streaming model. But the fact that you cant play it offline with reduced asset quality at all is just a bad decision.

I did turn off RT Shadows @15:12 and saw no performance improvement unfortunately. I was getting 78 fps just before that, and 78 fps when disabling RT shadows as well.
You might be right. I think Ultra on 2020 does look better than Medium here. High-End looks quite good though, and that's probably where I'll be playing for now.
Yeah, after the video I flew around in a slower plane and there are quite a few annoying things, like the boxes under the bridges, and I have found more flickering lighting issues when you get closer to bigger buildings etc. The flickering light / shadows really bother me, if it wasnt obvious already ;)
Microsoft.. you just.. wow.. they could care less about Intel, AMD.. almost 2025 and all they put in was something for Nvidia. one would think the FANS would speak up
And it struck me as odd as they do have good relationships with AMD too as they use their hardware in their consoles. Sure, different teams and all that, but to have nothing for AMD is a slap in the face.
The game doesn't look very good. I was almost going to buy this . I'll wait a few months . I loved MS Flight simulator 2020 when they actually got working properly. It's really a shame the newer games are not being optimized for PC.
I wanted to include a comparison in my video, but MSFS2020 takes almost a full day to install haha! 2024 definitely runs a lot worse than 2020, but I also think 2024 has a lot more detail, especially scenery.

Yeah, it definitely needs a lot of work. I am hopeful though because MSFS2020 actually did receive a nice patch about a year after release that improved performance quite a bit. And I think if they can sort out their server issues data streaming should be much better, meaning better performance. That's my hope anyway haha! Whether it will come to pass is another story altogether.
The game seems to be generally GPU-limited, so "very bad CPU optimization" is a bit of a weird comment. That's one situation that has improved a lot in 2024.

Agreed. Let us play offline at least, even if it means lower asset and scenery quality. Having to rely on streaming for everything is not it.

Frame Generation is not available in VR games but MSFS does have a reprojection setting to interpolate frames (45fps to 90fps for example)
Appreciate the reply. Last I used VR I had a 3080 and frame generation wasnt an option for me so I wasnt sure whether it was available or not.
The flickering is probably a texture paint problem with the livery. Notice it is only on the stripes. Change livery or aircraft.

it uses the same placeholder buildings as 2020, trees are now actual models instead of 2d blobs tho

Turn off ray traced shadows. You will see a big improvement and it’s more comparable to 2020

You might be right. I think Ultra on 2020 does look better than Medium here. High-End looks quite good though, and that's probably where I'll be playing for now.
I understand they cant do this for all bridges but NYC they really should fix the boxes under the bridges - its so bad.

Compare the same scenes with 2020 and you will see how crap the performance is vs 2020 which is much much better!
