I think I read Treasure Island years ago, and I hope you and the boys continue to enjoy it. It was lovely to hear you mention Janelle. I still think of her often and if I can get my hands on The Tower of London, I would like to read that sometime in the early months of 2025.

I'm praying for Peter and those he loves right now, including Arthur (love the concept of Team Peter and Team Arthur!) while I wait for my tea kettle to whistle. As others have said, you are doing such a wonderful job raising him with the tools he needs to navigate the complexities of life, Kate. I'm so sorry things are so difficult right now, and also am so glad you find yourself with a fantastic medical team caring for Peter who can match your emotional intelligence and give you confidence in his assessment and treatment. On a Victober note, I thought you might have been planning to reference a George MacDonald book when I saw the beautiful print in your introduction from At the Back of the North Wind. I'm not a huge classics reader, but just love George MacDonald and treasure my 3-in-1 book of At the Back of the North Wind, The Princess and The Goblin and The Princess and Curdie (I can't remember the proper term! I don't think it's "Trilogy", because these three stories aren't part of the same narrative). I think I'm going to revisit them this Victober 💘 I hope you find much comfort and consolation in books this month, Kate, and throughout the coming year, and discover ways to nurture yourself that aren't too costly in terms of your energy bucket. That can be a real challenge, for sure.

Oh my goodness, Kate. That was a tough video to do, and you did it so well, while I was in tears! So glad that Peter has such good care and doctors that you trust and who understand your concerns. Tell Peter he's got a whole group of Booktubers on TeamPeter, and maybe we should have a TeamArthur too, it's got to be a challenging time for him as well. As always, your Victober enthusiasm is contagious. I'm most excited about The Heir of Redclyffe, all due to you--I'm several chapters in and enjoying it so far. The Eustace Diamonds may turn out OK for you--it's not political at all (just a small bit of Lady Glencora)--it's more a commentary on society and I thought it worked well on audio.

Oh Kate!! Just seeing your happy face and hearing your voice did me so much good. I didn't even feel like I could actually really enjoy Victober at all this month while you are struggling so much. But you are right! Victober brings so much comfort and joy and when life gets absolutely turned upside down and feels so frightening and unhinged, one of the best things a family can do is keep on doing the normal things to help bring back the feeling of security. Who knows! Maybe this will turn out to be one of your most enjoyable Victobers ever. That would be really nice after the stinker you had last year. I am starting Deerbrook tonight!

Just found your channel. Peter’s story reminds me of my own. I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in August 2015. My PET scan showed I was a glow worm. I spent 4 days in the hospital after radiation treatments to my spine. Needless to say I am in my 9th year of treatment, grateful every morning when I awake again! I am looking forward to reading Victober. I love Jane Eyre and would love to reread it again but I think I will be reading The Woman In White.

I'm so sorry to hear about Peter's diagnosis! I have a family member who had/has childhood cancer, and it's a bear! But they also sing the praises of their pediatric oncologists. Sending love and prayers!

Oh Kate. What can you possibly say to that! I’m so so sorry that you and your family are having to go through this experience. How worrying and stressful for you all- I know from personal experience that nothing can ever prepare you for having your child seriously ill and I’m sure that extra stress has not been helpful to your ongoing fatigue and health issues. I’m so glad you went with your gut reaction and got him to the doctors quickly. Sending him all the best wishes and rooting for Team Peter all the way. I won’t offer and unsolicited health advice, as I fully appreciate your stance on that also, but I will say I just hope you take every opportunity you get during Victober for self care and nurturing your spirit and soul. I always find your TBRs so educational given your expertise in Victorian novels. My instinct is to say I've cheated and started Victober early, but that's wrong: Victorian literature is all year round!! But I did start celebrating the big event in September, with a reread of Tenant of Wildfell Hall on audio and reading Mary Barton. I'm determined to read Heir of Redclyffe this month, and I'm enjoying some delightful dithering about which Trollope to pick up.😊

I just stopped your video to reply.. I will pray every day for your health and your son Peter’s health and that you both feel better each day. I just tried to find Victorian books published in 1840 and saw that The Old Curiosity Shop by Charles Dickens was serialized between 1840 and 1841. Would that count for a book you might like that year? Now I will listen to your tbr… I am participating in all the challenges this Victober and am grateful for all you and the hosts do to bring it about each year.
