    The husband may not be convinced but a wonderful way to spread the middle grade love on Book tube! My husband doesn't generally choose to read and I do try to get him to read middle grade because they are usually shorter books. He now loves Alcatraz VS the Evil Librarians and has read them all and on to other Sanderson books. My favorite videos of yours are when a family member joins you. Thank you for sharing!

    This is so funny! At the beginning you are so encouraging about David's desire and attempt to read more. And then comes "I won't read that" about The Summer of the Monkeys and you start showing not-so-well-concealed indignation and excitement (when he says yes to the Gary Schmidt book)! Made me smile! Lovely to have your husband join you. I'd have to go book and see videos of your boys, but I feel like when I saw David, there was a familiarity there based on their faces.

    Oh Kate I laughed so hard ..thank you so much for being g so real...I saw Peter in so many of your husbands expression! You sold me on all of them lol! I wss wondering if your husband would enjoy The Wingfeather Saga?? Also has he read anything by Gary Paulsen?? Gone to the woods is my favorite by him.

    • @katehowereads
      @katehowereads  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Peter really does take after him! My husband and I have both read several books in the Wingfeather Saga and didn't feel as captivated by them as we were hoping. He has read and loved Hatchet. He might be open to reading more.

    I'm sure David doesn't need more recommendations, but I'd like to suggest "Across Five Aprils" by Irene Hunt. I think you, Kate, would enjoy it as well and the boys will like it when they are older. It's middle grade, but the themes are more for a middle schooler or older. Great book that my dad, who doesn't really read middle grade fiction, loved.

    • @katehowereads
      @katehowereads  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I really want to read it!! I was thinking of reading it aloud to Peter next year when he's ten but do you think he's too young?

    • @elizabethjonczyk6818
      @elizabethjonczyk6818 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@katehowereads You might want to read it first. The main character is 9 when the book starts. But he has to handle himself during a war in which his brothers fight on different sides and in which he has to sort of become the man of the house. This might feel a bit heavy for some ten year olds. But you would know best whether it would resonate with Peter now or in a couple of years.

    I’m with David 😅I don’t understand why adults read middle grade! That time passed long ago

    • @katehowereads
      @katehowereads  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I think if you tuned in to the whole video you'll know that recently he has enjoyed several different middle grade books. I think if you try the right middle grade that you'll find it's worth being read by all ages. C. S. Lewis says "A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest."
      I appreciate about middle grade that it features much less cynicism that is so rife in modern adult literature.

      Beowulf, Dragon Slayer by Rosemary Sutcliffe. This sounds like a book I want to get Peter! There is also a new graphic novel reimaging called Bea Wolf. I just put it on hold at the library so I'll let you know if it's any good.
