Wow, if that came off that good your taper may not be the best or it wasn’t tightened enough originally. It should be a very distinctive pop when the taper is pulled apart and you should need tools not just by hand.
@@wesmadebuilds681 it did pop, I wasn't sure how difficult it would be to remove so i had a go before recording. What you see in the video is after the initial removal 👍
I have the exact same problem with my vision at the moment, wondering if you know where I would get the crankshaft because I am having trouble finding the correct one. Great video though, it will really help when I get around to doing mine
@@harrygreen4220 The Japanese auctions, such as Buyee.jp is the best place. I'm very lucky, I have a friend who imports parts often and has spares for these scooters. Most of the difficult parts required have been supplied by him 🙂
Next time, put the crank and bearings in the freezer for a while, or in a cooler on some dry ice, or spray them with a can of air duster held upside-down, then heat the case halves where the bearing goes with a heat gun, then it should just drop in. The contraction of the cold part and expansion of the heated part should give a large enough size difference to just drop right in, once everything is room temperature again, you should have a nice tight press fit. This works with wheels and all the other bearings too. Pounding on bearings without a proper bearing driver can damage them as well. Just removing my old wheel bearings wrecks them, as I need to use a blind hole pulling tool to get them out. Otherwise, good job, very resourceful!
Hi mate, are the steering ball bearings 5mm each? Also how many roughly did you fit in top and bottom. Thanks
@@urbexcouple hi buddy, in all honesty I can't remember the size of the bearings. 5mm sounds about right. With regards to the quantity, same again, I'm unsure. I had a few ball bearings and packed the races up. You can buy complete kits which will have everything you'll require to build the steering back up 👍
i have one, where did you get the fixings and what paints do you use?
@@pablomoore4885 What fixings are you referring to buddy? I used aerosol acrylic paint on the panels 🙂
any issues with the airmext?
@@callumb5184 non at all, other than a very slow leak from the o-ring which seals the front bags. It takes a week to empty. I will use some sealant to fix this issue. It's nothing major. Overall I'm very happy with the kit 🙂👍
@@ukautocollective thank you. just bought a set from mine. seem too cheap(compared to airlift 3p) to be true
Woooooooooooooooow nice
Leave the engine cover off looks loads better and will cool down quicker with it off
Men don't need new tools. Keep your shovel sharp.
Looks amazing! Great job! it really came together.
Fantastic job. Enjoy. Would you be against white tyre writing? Without whitewalls I feel tyre writing would just add a little extra.
@@bobsessedonbikes1684 I was debating weather to add some tyre writing tbh. I have seen scooters with white walls and I really like the look of it. If I was able to add a white, and green stripe to the tyres, I think that would look great 😊
Bmx build looks really nice . Nice work 😊
It turned out really nice, great job! Now go and enjoy it.
looking good! 👍👍
Love it!!! Just got my 1985 vision!! Can’t wait to start getting done. I have started stripping it. When you put the front end /forks back together, did you use caged bearing or single bearings?
@@urbexcouple I have enjoyed every part of this restoration so I'm sure you will to! 😊 The bearings are individual on mine but I'm sure you can purchase caged also. It was fiddly refitting the forks without disrupting the bearings, but plenty of grease helps secure them in place 🙂
Good work. If either of those baskets need a home please let me know.
@@bobsessedonbikes1684 they seem to have become very popular now but unfortunately difficult to source these days. If I decide to let one go I will be in contact 🙂👍
nice
Hi what is the Japanese auction site address? Cheers
Buyee.jp 👍
Hi where did you purchase the exhaust from? Good luck with the build.
Thankyou. Buyee.jp 👍
You sound like youre from the west country? Id love to see this bike about! 🫡
Yes very close, Wiltshire 👍
Great stuff, really coming together, definitely prefer the wheel covers. I have some black ones I was going to do a bbs style graphic for a jog build I’ve got. The smoked indicators were standard for Japanese market along with the smoked tail light. You should be able to grab both from the yahoo auctions. Pretty sure I still have a nos fitting kit for a basket - nut/spacer/studs all in one, let me know if it’s of any use, happy to donate to your project 👍
Appreciate it thank you 😊 The BBS graphic would look great! I was thinking of doing something with mine but unsure as of yet. That's great to know regarding the tinted lenses. I was tempted to do the rear also 😊 I actually have the fitting kit, it was supplied with the basket. It's seen better days for sure though lol 👍
You’re so lucky to have access to the yahoo auction. I’m currently building a white/pink Af09. I’m also building the only imported Dio Baja in the 🇬🇧. Keep up the good work.
Sounds great! Would love to see the results 🙂 Appreciate your kind words 👍
If you haven’t seen it yet, take a sharpie and place a line on the variator face. What is left after riding is an indicator of how high the belt rides up the variator face. Also, look at office supply store for a garbage can, many have a very similar mesh used on them.
Thanks for the advise buddy 😊 I did try the pen mark idea and I have no line left so I assume it rides up the variator all the way pretty much lol 🤞 I will try it again for sure though, and with the added view by removing the cover I can see exactly how it rides the variator 👍
I will be honest. I don't dislike them, nor do I think they improve the bike either. But it's your build and your taste, so I hope you enjoy them. Love everything else about the build. It's cool AF
I'm still unsure whether I'll use the basket, it's more a case of wanting the options available and challenge restoration 🙂 Thankyou for you're kind words. Glad you enjoy the content 👍
You need l plates on a cbt car license or not
Yes, If the scooter/bike is over 50cc 👍
man I love it!! such a great looking scoot! I wish many of those parts weren't so rare here in the US.. where'd you find the belly pan??
Thanks so much buddy 😊 All the body parts were purchased from the yahoo auctions japan 🙂👍
Can you make one for x type jaguar plz 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏
Hi, I'm unsure how the louvre would be attached as the rear window is sealed with adhesive instead of the seal like my car. It is something that you would need to look into 👍
good day! if you don't mind, can i know what's the circumference grip of that wheel? thanks!
Hi, I can measure it for you and I'll get back to you 🙂👍
Oh, if you do go with the older logo, extend the green lines, That's how they did it on actual livery on the cars. You can search google images for "7up racing livery" to see what I mean! there's a lot that will show up to give you inspiration. most are on green cars, but some are on a white base.
All I want to say is, when choosing the logo for your livery, it would be best if you pick the one that was in use on the year your scooter was made (1986, right?) although I do like the late 80's logo, it's a very clean look. I don't think it would be a deal breaker if you use the later logo, and would look more like what you'd see on a racecar, which is what informed a lot of Gentsuki livery to begin with. It stands to reason that a Gentsuki build should be somewhat period correct, meaning the logos should match the approximate period of manufacture, or the span of time that model of scooter was in production (that body style ran from 1985-1989 if I'm not mistaken). If it's an older logo on the cooler box, that would be okay; as that's the logo that just happened to be on that cooler, I don't think it'd clash. Also, one last bit of advice from my college days; My design professor would always say, "Less is more, be sure to incorporate the white space into your design" Maybe not cluttered with logos, but sparing usage and proper placement on those mostly white panels will speak volumes! I'm sure it'll turn out great!
@BigEpinstriping Thankyou so much for your input, it's greatly appreciated 😊 I absolutely agree with you, less is more! I'm pretty much set on the earlier design to keep within the period/date of manufacture of scooter. I have had a play around with the positioning of the logos but can't quite decide on its final resting place lol. I want to try multiple sizes also as this will make an impact on position. 👍
Stick to one design keep it simple and consistent 👍
So you are essentially going from a 6.5g roller to a 4.5g roller.3x13=39; 39/6=6.5 3x9=27 ;27/6=4.5. If you could find 4g and 5g rollers that would get you the same but with 6 rollers.
I have the original 7g from malossi. I'll take a look and see if I can get lighter. I'll keep playing until I get it spot on 😊👌
Have you got insta showing off your Honda ?
My Instagram is @Spanner_86. I haven't posted much content of the scooter yet but I will be very soon 🙂
Looks and sounds mint, love it. Will look mint with the LEDs underneath. May I make a suggestion, consider painting out the exhaust/muffler hanger (and the gold weld) semigloss or flat black. It'll give the illusion of a 'floating' muffler set up. Keep the awesomenessness.
Thankyou buddy, means so much 😊 That's a great suggestion, I think I have some vht black paint so it's something I could try! 🙂 Appreciate your support 👌
Not sure if you are running a stock variator but the jasil variator from racing planet got my ne50 to 40mph
I have the malossi variator kit with uprated clutch. The whole engine is set up on malossi lol. I hope changing the rollers to a lighter weight will improve the speed dramatically 🙂👍
The roller weights are very heavy for the engine size.. From personal experience I’d drop down to about 6gram rollers
Hi Alan, Thankyou, I am tempted to try 3x 9g and see what that brings. One of the gentsuki members run that and the scooter runs well with that set up 🙂 To confirm, this is a 70cc scooter 👍
Try it, see how it goes.. It’s all trail and error.. I’ve always found between 5-7 gram weights worked best for my 70cc stuff..
@@alancutchey9892 thanks buddy. I'm looking for good top end. Will the lighter rollers achieve a better top end?
The heavy rollers can hold the engine back and and not allow it to build up the speed.. Check out some videos on cvt tuning and u’ll understand it more
It looks great, congrats! Is loud for a scooter I must say. You could glue some aluminium strips to the fan and put some LED light in there if there is room, but it may look too stupid.
@maxpionier5241 It is loud for a small scooter lol, but I love it! I do love the sound of a 2 stroke 😁 With regards to the LEDs, I have a few ideas which I'll play around with. The fan idea would look great but space is limited unfortunately 🙂
Just an update for those that would like to do this for bc racing coilovers the part number is SN12O18OBLY from airmext
Just found you yesterday, binge watching this build.
Thankyou so much! Welcome and I hope you enjoy it buddy 😊👍
Nice ped, but nothing to do with Bōsōzoku whatsoever!
More to be added in the near future don't worry. I'm just looking to get the moped reliable and drivable before adding the accessories 👍
I look forward to seeing how crazy you get it!
@@ukautocollective Just letting you know the Proper name for these scooters are Kyuu-Gentsuki
You beauty, sounds spicy as, looking forward to seeing it blat down the road

Yeaaaaah Boooooiiiii !, sounds sweeet buddy
Well done lad 👍
Thankyou so much ☺️

Thankyou 👌
Do you need a squirrels tail look cool
Is the red air filter cover a similar size to spray paint lids? You could use the green cap
It is yes. I got the red to match the decals once I have them 😊
Didn’t you pull out 6 or 7 gram rollers? If you take the average of the 13 gram ones using 6 you should be pretty much where you started.
Is close, 7g more than running 6x 6g rollers buddy. I'm trialling with it all tbh to get the best results 😊
Yeah, couldn’t remember what you pulled out but thought it was 6 grams. 6x6=36 and 13x3=39, so pretty close to the same. When I was tuning I ended up with 3 of one size and 3 of another to fine tune down to a half size on average. Most important thing is setting your RPM. You want to be in the power band as quickly as possible.
@@wesmadebuilds681 it'll take me a few attempts to find the perfect set up. I'm currently going on what the guys in the gentsuki group have done then fine tuning from there 😊
If you haven't painted the mat yet, don't do it. All the stones under your shoes will scratch the paint off fast and it will look rubbish I think. Regarding the graphics. Do as you said, to keep it simple. I won't look to busy, and less is always more. It's getting very close to the end, and look stunning! Keep up the good work
Super, I love this content, something that would help is posting the links of stuff you get, and also names in jp characters of the charms and all that
