Dunno if it is coming from the rye or the barrel, cuz I can find it with some wheated ones too... • @TheBarleyLads
      @TheBarleyLads 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! To call it straight bourbon, it's a minimum two years aging in a barrel. But between 2 and 4 years, it must state the minimum aging time. So for example, Ancient Ancient Age from Buffalo Trace states on the neck it's minimum age of 36 months. Beyond 4 years you can just say straight bourbon without an age statement listed. And it can be any proof 80 or above. For Bottled in Bond, you're correct that it needs to be at least 4 years old. But it also has to be all grain distilled in a single season at a single distillery aged in a government bonded warehouse. You can blend barrels from the same season together but you can't blend in older or younger barrels. And it must be bottled at 100 proof. Among other stipulations.

    • @TheBarleyLads
      @TheBarleyLads 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Each batch is going to be a little different because they're usually aged different lengths of time and they're master blender likes for them to be unique on their own. But I've tasted multiple matches and haven't been disappointed. Compared to EW BiB, this will tend to be sweeter because of the Lincoln County Process. Plus it's probably aged at least twice as long, giving it more time to pull sugars out of the wood.

    Love this one, it's a hard to categorize spirit in my opinion, being a young, higher abv Irish aged in... bourbon barrels? Kind of an odd idea to me, but given the flavor for the price it's nothing to sneeze at. I mean the next best Irish is what Green Spot? That's like double the price where I am. Not sure why but this reminds me of another hard to categorize whiskey I love, Michter's American, which is essentially a bourbon but they age it in used bourbon barrels and it rockets it to something beyond anything falling under the classification of "bourbon" I've ever had that are even 3-4x it's price. Then again Michter's American is lower abv and harder to find. I'll have to pick up a bottle to compare how I feel about these two now. Either way definitely worthy to spend the money for couple ounces of this neat, or heck even just with some coke and a meal, it elevates a standard whiskey/bourbon mix drink. Cheers.

    • @TheBarleyLads
      @TheBarleyLads 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! The majority of Irish whiskey and Scotch (and aged rum) are aged in used bourbon barrels because they're plentiful and cheap compared to building new oak barrels or sourcing wine/fortified wine casks. Even some Green Spot is aged in bourbon barrels while some is aged in sherry casks before blending. As for this whiskey, Prohibition is great for the price. I appreciate the higher abv because, as you said, it's a youthful spirit and it needs the proof. Otherwise it would probably be a pretty flat experience. And Michter's American is a phenomenal whiskey! Highly underrated and almost in a category on its own.

If it was a 20 dollar bottle it's taste would make more sense. Not enough context clues 😅 No, don't talk about Weller? No, don't buy secondary? No, not worth the hype? No, terrible review?

      @@TheBarleyLads Not worth the hype. Not worth the search and definitely not worth secondary. For me anyway. The Full Proof is the only one I like and I don’t hunt them.

      Full proof is much harder to get, even in a control state like Ohio. Haven't had the opportunity to try it, but I believe you when you say it's not worth hunting.

      Googled the exchange rate, so it's definitely pricy for you. How does that price compare to Makers Mark or Larceny if you have those?

    I've had this one, twice, if I'm correct.

      Odd comment or attempt at a joke. The show is filmed exclusively in the UK. And every review we do covers the backstory/history of the whiskey along with a review of it. Hope you stuck around past the 20 seconds where I talk about the show for which this was created. But we appreciate that you took the time to comment regardless.
