To me, this is definitely a huge step up from the white label. Had it in an espresso martini with a plum sugar syrup and the fruitiness in the whiskey really worked well.
Yeah, fruity flavours and some nuttiness does typically come from sherry casks, with different types of sherry or port giving raisins, plums, cherries or strawberries as well as almonds, walnuts, that sort of thing.
Adding to what Whiskey Nerd said, there are some bourbons that have a cherry flavor component, some more intense than others. Old Forester has some really great bourbons with a strong cherry note
