Yeah it was actually good movie and I really enjoyed it and it was way better than the ones that came out before (the dragon god movie and book of vile darkness was somehow better than that 2000 movie) and it felt like a dnd movie and as woke as we all thought was gonna be. If the the director (loved his character on Bones) never said that stupid joke and if the other controversies (too long to list that year) never happened that caused a boycott of WOTC then the movie would probably had more success for a sequel. Though I hear they are having a television series but I am kinda skeptic about it. But it was up against John Wick chapter 4 and the Mario movie. I do give the movie a 8 out of 10. Its good but had flaws.

Interesting one! Once the PCs catch up with the barbarians, after making their way through some dangerous and cold wilderness, they find out the hard way that the barbarians had an ugly surprise for them in the form of a heinous ice/snow monster that ambushes them. A remoraz [sp?], maybe?

Having a druid in the group would be a good idea. In my version of the Flanaess, the barbarians might not anticipate that since druids (in my games) are mostly of Flan heritage that aren't usually found living in the cold northeast lands.

Another goodie. You've had a few other clever hook ideas for this area. With the right group of players (i.e. Viking fans) a dm could run a really awesome campaign in this corner of the Flanaess. Depending on the year, maybe even bring in the modules that trigger the Greyhawk War.

I seem to recall hearing somewhere that the original 'campaign' arc envisioned by Gary Gygax started with the Village of Hommlet, progressed to the Temple of Elemental Evil, then moved to the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth and lastly to the Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun. I'm not sure if that's true, but to me that feels like a more natural progression than ToEE/Slave Lords/Dragon Queen.

Great find. I rarely read the pc bios, though I knew stern alia first appeared there. I had wondered if "stern" was just an epithet, and since she's referred to as just Alia, and stern is not capitalized in the original tournament version, i have to assume it is, so she is just Alia. Also, the reason for Myrrha's disgrace implies much about Alia's role. She is focused on the law of a community, maybe like Tyr is the god of keeping order during Things

As much as I am sentimentally nostalgic about Greyhawk... I DO wish Gygax had bothered to factor in actual geographic factors into Greyhawk. The Bright Desert wouldn't be there at all unless it were magically created.

Great video. This is the only chanel on TH-cam where I am watching ALL videos. We were playing the Falcon trilogy in Greyhawk and later the Queen of the Spiders campaign ADnD 2e. When my players returned from Sterich, one of my players, who played a dwarven warrior, settled down in the Bright Desert and opened a mine with his small dwarven army. Unfortunately, this was the end of a 10 years campaign. Just got my hands on Rary the Traitor source book when the campaign ended.

I've always been intrigued by the Bright Desert; I should probably get around to reading "Rary the Traitor" sometime. Wasn't the Scorpion Crown a trick played on the evil King of Sulm (whose name, I take it, is lost to time) by Tharizdun himself, who'd been masquerading as their Flan deity all along? And can someone tell me if that's the same artifact Rary went there to find, and what the heck he'd want with such an accursed item?

I’ve shared on this channel before how I transplanted a module series from the Kingdoms of Kalamar setting to the Wooly Bay area, and part of it took place in the Bright Desert. The party needed some ingredients to craft a magic item, and one was “the essence of dragon’s breath.” Rumor had it that a blue dragon was pairing in the Bright Desert, so the party journeyed across the Wooly Bay from Highport (before it was sacked by humanoid hordes) to find it. The alchemist who gave them the instructions gave them a steel rod and said for them to ask the dragon to breathe its electricity on it. I remember one of the PCs asked “how are we supposed to ask a blue dragon to breathe on a steel rod?” The alchemist’s response? “Very politely.” They had several small encounters in the desert, and ultimately met up with the dragon, who would give them what they wanted-if they’d complete a task for him. Hijinks ensued…

Gary Gygax was great at his writing and world building, but he was also a master at melding other's ideas together cohesively. The way he combined different mechanics from Dragon and elsewhere into D&D is an example. Also, of course combining stories, modules, and campaigns from other authors. The only setting I really love from the 2nd ed days was Planescape, which seems like a great fleshing out of Gary's Great Wheel multiverse, and his combining of settings and mythologies.
