Incredible EBike Build, Highly Customized (3KW BBSHD)

Our friend Andre stopped by the shop today to show us his E-Bike and I've gotta say, I was quite impressed. The bike has a buttery smooth 8 speed driveline paired to an ultra high powered BBSHD (ASI 855 controller). It was something words cannot quite describe. Today we took a deeper look into this tricked out machine! Hopefully it can inspire some ideas for our viewers. Note : I recommend wear...

One of our most common e-bike battery builds that we offer at www.AffordableEBikes.ca are these 48V 15AH and 20AH 21700 Samsung 50E Packs. They are a really solid casing, cell holders, space for BMS, and allow use of a built-in controller. These are an awesome battery for 500W hub motors, the controllers have a 22A peak current rating and 11A rated which gives a solid 500W continuous and 1000W ...

In this video we dive into how we are going to modify this Troxus Lynx to be 3x the power compared to original. you state you do not need to do the positives as no current, can i ask how you worked that out, current flows from negative to positives as amps are not used in a circuit but are returned, i have never seen like this before from any other battery builder.

    Finally installed, coupled with their 52V high discharge. What a sunrise of a ride. On a 2002 Norco VPS DH. Eats hills like pigeons do bread crumbs. Didnt install cadence sensor or brake cut offs yet. Marzo bomber 300mm front forks with dual torque arms installed, just had to file the drop outs a millimeter or so to fit wheel. just as they say, 45/50km/hr up hill no effort. Once more, a great product that needs no alteration out the box. wonder if they worked on new features (one wheel drive possibilities, rear light ...) for the next gen controller? Anyhoot, Fantastic product, easy install and loads of fun... Wow. Really surprising at how fast it gets up to speed.

    This is an awesome and somewhat informative video for anyone wanting to start up a company as a battery supplier, manufacturer, wholesaler, But for anyone not interested in starting up a battery manufacturing company and is just interested in making a battery for their own personal use, ebike (etc).... The cost of supplies and tools could never possibly negate the cost of just doing the proper research needed to buy from a reputable supplier in china.

    • @RobertPetrucha

      Sure it can. I made a 72v 12.8ah pack by tearing down two of these packs to the cells and building it in a dp-9 case. From aliexpress I got side cutters, 5m battery cable, JQ-DHJ02B spot welding PCB, 10 pack of xt60 connectors, 100pcs pure nickel strip, and a 33M roll of kapton tape. All for about $85 shipped, hooked the spot welder up the battery from my truck. The spot welder works great for $30 but you need to keep your battery charged up or quality of the welds starts to drop. For my pack I had to do something like 300 welds. I kept a battery maintainer and a jump starter hooked up to it. Or you could run a couple car batteries in parallel. Now labour and safety... This was a completely new skill for me so it took me days of research and labour to pull it off and I was worried the entire time about burning my house down if I made a mistake. If I did it again I'd probably set up to work outside in a spot that I could just let it burn if something went wrong. If you don't know what you're doing and you value your time and safety this is not worth it, but it's cool to ride around on a pack I made. I've got my controller limited to 2kw but my pack can do 3kw easily and I've given it a few bursts of 4kw with no problems. The packs, case, and bms were $380 shipped so in total I spent $465. Over a third of my cost was in the case and BMS so if you're building a larger, caseless battery like a stealth bomber and get a better deal on a BMS you'd be saving even more.

    Does this count as your 3k vid? If so I'd like to put my name in the running for favorite comment. 50/50 at this point, lol No sob stories today but for some context, haven't been able to work for like 5 years now, can't ride my Katana cause of the weight which spurred my interest in ebikes, long story short that interest evolved into a desire to build my own (for cost efficiency), and eventually a pretty strong desire to start a non-profit for low cost, 3d printed, ebikes to provide low-income individuals to commute, etc. only problem is I have no idea where to start. Been fiddling around with 3d printing design and accidentally came up with a possible sturdy, low-cost frame (or the beginnings of one) while working on another project. Anyways I found you guys a few days ago and have been binging your stuff to learn a bit about battery building among other things. Just wanted to say the stuff you're churning out is real helpful and would love to see a course on how to build something from ground up. I did watch your video mentioning courses, but I don't think I'd be a major help on telling you what that should consist of. Regardless. Thanks for doing what you're doing. Hope everyone over there has a good day.

    Thanks for taking the time to review the various types of welders and helping those considering a welder to gain some knowledge into the various options. That said IMHHO the welders should not just stick the strip to the battery. An OK weld will be take moderate effort to pull off with pliers, a proper weld will tear out sections of the strip. To me acceptable of most pack construction and Somewhere in the middle is a weld that (on tear off) is causing a decent amount of material transfer from the strip....IE the weld although not penetrating the strip fully causing tear out of small sections of the strip, it will melt enough of the strip to cause a substantial depression in the strip and corresponding deposition of nickel onto the battery terminal. This is the minimum I would consider acceptable for two reasons. One is that anything with less weld penetration and area will be transferring the current through a small area (when in use) and this will generate a lot of localized heating that over time will fatigue the weld and can cause it to separate. The second issue is even if this is in a very low current draw pack (say a true 250-350w e bike) the vibration of the cells in the pack encountered over bumps can also cause fracture of the welds.

    • @ElectricBikeLaboratory
      @ElectricBikeLaboratory 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Excellent comment , thank you for the valuable insight ! You are right a strong weld has to be very hard to remove. If it can stick then 3-4 weld points (6-8 points on the cell) MAY do the job but deep penetration like you mentioned is the most important. Thank you!

      Haha yes , you can have 2 bases one on each bike and use the battery interchangeably. We're working on getting together more DIY kits but check out our site we do sell many of the cases and affordably priced cells "AEB 18650" www.affordableebikes.ca

      We're not sure how old they are but they're new cells (not cycled) are all testing identically around 3000mah and have a nice amount of discharge

    You should be carrying a Tool kit "chain breaker" any ways.. The BBS02 can be set to 1470w, With my 52v batt and a 52t chainring i can hit 32pmh throttle only, 42 peddling as fast as i can full throttle, 46 drafting a box truck.! and only weight 55lb. All hub drives hate pulling a load "Trailer" at a slow pace.. Especially going slow on rocky trails. Mid drives excel at this and use the bikes derailleur.. "Mine 9 gears" I pull my trailer with the dog on trails that would burn up hub drives.. Yes there are builds that can handle what i do with my ebike.. as the more watts you push the more capable your build will be. Here in Cali the legal max is only 750w tho i'm pushing almost double that.. i'm able to ride with traffic when i have to and not bothered going up any overpass 😎 Where hub drives really shine is commuting in town / leisure riding.. But if you like hill climbs, trail riding and jumps "Off Road" I recommend The CYC X1 Pro Gen 4 5000W Mid Drive Conversion Kit.. yes you will pay big.. but you will have a crazy powerful electric motor cycle "Depending on your build.. there are many groups that can help you out on Facebook 👍
