I have the same problem. I'll be calling Definitive next week to find out what they'll do. For anybody interested I'll be posting after I talk with them. Fingers crossed because these are great speakers when working correctly.

Thank you SO much for making this video! My pair's audio sensing circuit has gone bad so the amps don't automatically turn on, I just need to replace one capacitor on the board and this video is incredibly helpful.

Problem now is finding the amps as Definitive will not help you with speakers this old. Such a bummer!

Any viable replacement amps out there

Had same problem, dead amp, so I had it checked out by a guy at work. Turns out it was a bad varister used for voltage spike protection. replaced and the amp worked again but was on full volume bass. volume knob did nothing he thinks its the potentiometer thats attatched to the volume knob. Didnt want to pay the $300 DT wanted repair it so I put that towards new stand alone subwoofer, and keep the st's unplugged until I have time to tackle them

Great video. To the point. Scratching my head why you needed to loosen the lower control arm nut? Even with a tight nut/bolt, arm should be free to move.

And then it falls off at a 100mph, hits someone in the head, and you're in jail for unattempted murder. Brilliant! (I'm totally surprised by the number of positive comments, the look of this thing is very poor quality, and then you end up driving what exactly? A wannabe 997? But it isn't one. It is a disfigured 996, which could be kept in its proper original state whether you like it or not.)

Well, my amps just went out on mine as well. Called Def Tech today, they do not make and will not sell new amps for these speakers any longer. Only option now to is remove the amplifiers and send them to Def Tech to repair at a cost of $300 EACH!!!! This puts a very sour taste in my mouth regarding Def Tech. I may just buy new Golden Ears as replacements. $600 for repairs is steep!

Out of interest, unless i missed it, is this a Carrera 2 or 4? My C4 needs doing and this looks much easier than dropping the sub-frame.

I am planning on something similar to this in 150" because I need the acoustically transparent screen. Amazon reviews in the negative range talk a lot about shipping damage and easy to tear covering. I'm not worried too much about shipping damage, I have a long history in metalwork, so I have no fear of aluminum framing and I would be doing the same thing you did with the corners to make sure they're not too sharp. I know the covering I need is not the same as yours, but did you find the covering to be fragile? Also, French cleat mounting - is this top and bottom or top only with the frame hanging unsecured at the bottom? I need to fit in on an unusual wall, but still need access to the space behind the screen (long story, but I have water filters back there) so any detail on how this gets mounted to the wall would be super helpful.

Hi guys, talked to deftech and they've confirmed they dont have replacement amps available. One of my amps is completely burned out so there is no chance to repair it locally. I am just curious if someone is willing to send me your broken amp (hum or noise is ok, this can be repaired I guess) . Otherwise I have no idea what to do with my ST/STS. One amp was already replaced years ago but now two more are down.

Do they sell a air cooled conversion kit on eBay?

I recently called Def Tech recently and the amps for the Mythos STS are no longer available. They will rebuild yours for $125 plus shipping. Would you recommend that or having the capacitors replaced by an electronics repair shop? Do you have any recommendations on where to buy those two capacitors? Thanks in advance.

The shape of the 996 headlights was misunderstood for several years, but in my opinion the concept came from the great GT1, It is authentic and have a essence of heritage. I know this is old but first of all thanks for the video, I have to assemble mine....the one part I didnt see you do was the middle support beam....in the video it appears right after you have assembled the whole thing...did you do it then? i went over the instructions really quick and your video has a lot more info so I want to get your input before I put mine together....thanks a lot.
