Thank you SO much for making this video! My pair's audio sensing circuit has gone bad so the amps don't automatically turn on, I just need to replace one capacitor on the board and this video is incredibly helpful.

I have the same problem. I'll be calling Definitive next week to find out what they'll do. For anybody interested I'll be posting after I talk with them. Fingers crossed because these are great speakers when working correctly.

Are DT still supporting these speakers?

Had same problem, dead amp, so I had it checked out by a guy at work. Turns out it was a bad varister used for voltage spike protection. replaced and the amp worked again but was on full volume bass. volume knob did nothing he thinks its the potentiometer thats attatched to the volume knob. Didnt want to pay the $300 DT wanted repair it so I put that towards new stand alone subwoofer, and keep the st's unplugged until I have time to tackle them

Thanks for the video. My amp blew a few weeks ago on the right speaker and I followed your directions perfectly. Now I'm just waiting to get the new amp and grills I ordered. Good work!

Thanks for the comment. you can order the amps directly from def tech and also new grills. you'd be surprised at how faded those can get.

Shame onshame on deftech this is a known issue and happens to 90% of this model. It should be a defect recall as the cars manufactures do... just don't buy deftech !!!!

Well, my amps just went out on mine as well. Called Def Tech today, they do not make and will not sell new amps for these speakers any longer. Only option now to is remove the amplifiers and send them to Def Tech to repair at a cost of $300 EACH!!!! This puts a very sour taste in my mouth regarding Def Tech. I may just buy new Golden Ears as replacements. $600 for repairs is steep!

Great video. I'm having the hum with my Mythos STS. I notice you are replacing the amp in a Mythos ST. Are the amps the same for the ST and the STS? Can you give me the part number for the ST or STS?

I recently called Def Tech recently and the amps for the Mythos STS are no longer available. They will rebuild yours for $125 plus shipping. Here's is def techs number 1.800.228.7148 Mon-Fri from 10 AM - 6PM EST.

Problem now is finding the amps as Definitive will not help you with speakers this old. Such a bummer!

Parag Mathur I replaced both amps with new ones. I think you could replace the caps and it would fix the issue but you better be able to solder and I didn’t want to mess with it.

Hi guys, talked to deftech and they've confirmed they dont have replacement amps available. One of my amps is completely burned out so there is no chance to repair it locally. I am just curious if someone is willing to send me your broken amp (hum or noise is ok, this can be repaired I guess) . Otherwise I have no idea what to do with my ST/STS. One amp was already replaced years ago but now two more are down.

I recently called Def Tech recently and the amps for the Mythos STS are no longer available. They will rebuild yours for $125 plus shipping. Would you recommend that or having the capacitors replaced by an electronics repair shop? Do you have any recommendations on where to buy those two capacitors? Thanks in advance.

    • @porsche911luv9
      @porsche911luv9  3 ปีที่แล้ว

I called last week for some mythos grills and the prices really have gone up! Anyway, take your amp off and see what the capacitors say on them. Most will say the micro farad rating. You could probably order them from Amazon, eBay, or the electrics shop you use. Another option would be to contact your local university electronics program and see if a student/teacher is interested in helping you out. Good luck.

Is the light on the back turning on? Are you hearing any hum from the woofer? If there is no sound coming from the woofers either you turned off the LFE port on your receiver, your amp failed, or your power plug came undone.

If not take them to an electronics store that can replace the capacitors. I hear that’s the failure point on these.

Porsche911luv thanks so much for this video. Never been in my supertower, but I have the need to now.
One of my STS Supertowers has developed a rattle. I believe I have isolated it to the 5x10 cone driver. See/hear the linked video below assuming TH-cam allows it.
This was purchased in July of 2011 as a part of an entire Definitive 7.1 speaker setup. Its the only speaker giving me problems.
What options do I have for replacing that particular driver assuming that's the problem? And could there be something loose internally on the speaker itself I could self-service? I'm a pretty technical guy who is not afraid to tinker. Not much to loose here. Speaker has become unusable.

Sorry, download isn’t working. I do see those drivers, if that’s what it is, for sale on eBay. I would call def tech first they might give you a discount. Maybe unplug the sub and just run the highs and see if the rattle stops.

Porsche911luv sorry about the bad link. Put it on Vimeo. vimeo.com/452407693
I’ve used your video to remove the driver and the rattle is gone. There was however a rubber looking strip that runs all the way along the back corners (both sides) and one side had fallen down from the top. Not sure what it’s purpose was but wonder if it was resting on the driver and that’s what was causing the rattle. Or does this sound like the driver to you? Thanks for your help.

    • @porsche911luv9

@@stevendrew6861 it could be either by the sounds of it. When you gently push down on the woofer do you feel a somewhat crunchy feeling? Yes, than woofer is blown If not it’s most likely the rubber strip
