Crystal definitely took liberties, they undermined the impact of Sailor Moon defeating Metalia by having her power not be questionable compared to her allies. Sailor Moon only ever defeated underlings and stopped (but didn't slay) Zoicite. Having the generals survive took away from showing the strength of the senshi and it feels like Takeuchi's humour didn't get adapted to being as funny on screen as it was in panel. 6:55 To be fair to Keke, there's this undertone of getting upstaged at one's own culture (i.e. Japanese girl is better than cooking Chinese food than girl from China) that would have been humiliating for her. Sure, we the audience know Sumire is genuinely trying to help her save the meal and cover up her mistake, but as someone of Chinese descent, I get her frustration. Unfortunately, a lot of anime treats Chinese characters as the butt of jokes for not properly assimilating into Japanese culture (which makes Keke as a character a breath of fresh air), and immigrants tend to carry that inferiority complex and desire to prove oneself as a result of such prejudices. But that does tie into what you said about Sumire coming off as unintentionally arrogant, and even a lighthearted foreshadowing of the much sadder moment where she threatens to quit because she thinks she's just letting everyone down. Both are moments where she shows she genuinely does care about others, but doesn't necessarily express it in the best way. Honestly, I really appreciate that they didn't take the easy route and magically had everyone get along after Sumire's introduction, because of course there's going to be conflict when you put flawed, impulsive teenage girls with attitude together. But after everything, they truly did feel like true friends, some of the strongest in the entire series.

I love that it is Ami is the voice of reason and one of the viewpoints of the episode, because a lot of fans ship her and Makoto together and it's basically telling the fans it's okay to.

Remember when, in the first episode of Sailor Stars, Michiru decided to fish a glass shard out of Haruka's wound with her mouth? ...Yeah that's their official kiss to me.

I know this isn’t the focus of the video (I thought it was a really cool and enlightening analysis of the various episode portrayals) but I want to know what people see in Haruka and Michiru’s arc, because I don’t think I saw it like AquaMarina did. Whenever she said “They aren’t the best of people *yet*.” I got confused because… they never seem to stop having terrible stances on critical issues??? At least as Uranus and Neptune. Like, they’re stubborn, obviously, it takes them a while to see the error of their approach, and that’s fine. But as soon as they learn their lesson at the very very end of S, they leave the series, and only a few episodes after their return in Sailor Stars, their new problematic take is that they everyone needs to be xenophobic about alien refugees. And don’t get me wrong, I still love Haruka and Michiru, but the only moments they got to shine as heroes, that weren’t tainted by their harsh viewpoints, was during the Return of Queen Nehelenia arc and the SuperS movie… And that’s it.

Best episode if you're fan of dramatic scenes. But i prefer comedy, so it's not the best episode. But is one of best emotional episodes. But i love Sailor Moon for comedy.

I cry a lot with Sailor Moon lol, but this episode, the next one, and the S finale, always always make me cry, like sobbing, bawling my eyes out.

honestly all of the sailor moon season finales are my favorite episodes of the show and each season.. almost all of em made me cry every time on my original watch

Ouch, thanks for reminding me of this ep 🥲🙃 Sailor Moon was probably the earliest show I ever really followed or sought out (back when eps of an anime would be posted on YT in like 7 parts, not just scenes 😆). I’m not sure Little Me really understood that the Scouts died there (I think I watched the dub), and later finding out how Takeuchi had initially intended the series to end at Beryl, it SHOOK ME 😱😭. Coming back to it with that knowledge and after reading the manga, I remember being so INVESTED in it all 😄 Were there actual tears? Not sure but I know that each death left me Achinggggg emotionally 😫 One of these days, I gotta rewatch the original series 🥺💖

Sailor Moon in general seems to handle love triangles pretty maturely. I think Venus had a crush on a guy, then found out her crush loved her best friend. Venus is hurt but in the end fakes her death so her crush and best friend can live a peaceful happy life together.

After the airing of season 2, Kinako was probably my least favorite out of the new characters, possibly because of the issues you mentioned, which is a shame. Now they have grown to become one of my favorites on that group, Kinako is just very charming, relatable and also interesting to me, so I really hope some more can be done with her next season.

I hadn’t actually thought of the first years being unable to keep up thing being a possibly good idea beyond the first three episodes but you do make a good point about the Hokkaido episode. What bugs me about the Kanon Natsumi recruitment is that if Kinako had recruited her, thematically it could’ve been really awesome. Even in the event of Kanon being the recruiter, if they’d stuck to her and not insinuated that Kinako would be the one to do it, it might have also worked just not as well. The fact Kinako was insinuated but Kanon was the recruiter shot both potential options in the foot. Given how thematically relevant and realistic Kinako’s episode 1-3 situation was, I’d argue she’s had some of the highest levels of potential in the entire series. The execution was simply a disaster, and it’s a shame really. I may honestly reference or even link this video in my own video about Kinako whenever I do that sometime in the future!

Nah, her potential was realized in my playthrough of Love Live Season 2. Should have raised your social stats more in the early game.

Rin, a girl who struggles to embrace her femininity, gets told "nah you must be a man cosplaying as a woman", y'all tell me, how would she fucking feel? Stop calling Rin trans for the love of god, she's just a girl. As a fan of the series and a fan of her, it's the absolute worst you could say about her character.
