The whole "let's save the school" plot point seems to take the backseat throughout Sunshine which makes it feel like Aqours doesn't even try to save their school. It's a bit hard to feel bad for them when they don't seem to put in the effort into it. I do agree that there was not a lot of effort in the worldbuilding department either.
Digressing a bit, I think one interesting direction they could've taken Sunshine's story would be something similar to Mahiru's story in Revstar: them being "the town's idol," the hidden jewel of this small seaside town, who goes to the big city and fails. The pressure of having so many people place their expectations on you, seeing how it could affect them, and more importantly, you'd be keeping the focus on them. Great video as always! I had never considered the idea that μ’s and Aqours were supposed to co-exist but in retrospect it really does explain a lot about the way the anime was handled. The early MVs do give the indication that Aqours is meant to focus on interpersonal drama rather than the saving the school, becoming massively famous idols drama of SIP. When μ’s ended up disbanding it left a giant question mark that Sunshine couldn’t just ignore, but which wasn’t part of the original direction of the project, and that’s really felt in the anime. The interpersonal stuff is great, the best part of the anime in my opinion. The saving the school plot…..I understand what they were going for with it, it was intentionally built like SIP to make the point that Aqours neither have to be nor can be μ’s the way people want them to, but it’s weaker for sure.
yeah, you're not necessarily wrong. i love sunshine and aqours, but their anime is really lacking, especially in the season 2 department. it feels a lot more contrived, and s1, as much as i i love it, does have some strange story beats. but i don't mind it, personally. great video!
Nice video! Superstar s2 notwithstanding, sunshine season 2 and season 1 were my least favorite LL anime for many of the reasons you talked about. It's a shame because I like the music and the characters a lot. Aquors' impact is undeniable but it's almost in spite of the anime lol.
