I played few, but my favorites are: Final fantasy vii: crisis core Tales of berseria Persona (3,4 y 5) Metaphor refantazio for the moment (I haven't finished yet) . . Nier automata doesn't seem like an RPG to me, but I love it too

Slay the spire not being best turn based is crazy

TEOT single andled ruined an entire series for me. Could never get passed 5 or so hours of any of the other series since. Though SO2 remake was really good, and since its before TEOT I can ingore TEOT utter failure.

Viewfinder is a masterpiece puzzle game

Didn't know Grime was getting a sequel. I'm still playing through the first one and it's been a good time so far.

Just got into jrpgs last year, thx to ff7 and remake part 1. Haven't played a lot, but I've played a good few mainstream picks. Final fantasy 9 and NieR automata are absolutely my two goats out of what I've played so far though. Definitely wanted to try out some of the other final fantasies (like rebirth which i bought and then didn't start) and atlus games though. Dragon quest looks amazing though i gotta check it out at one point

i miss three tales games on the list tales of -zesteria, -beseria and -rise. I found zesteria was the best!!! I think, because it was my first tales game and i liked the transformation mechanic in the game. in beseria the main char was way to op. you couldnt die because of heal on hit... in rise the chars were a little bit over the top to generic for my liking. But with all of them i had a great time.

no trying to be edgy with number one, or subversive, just the no.1 game at number 1. Kudos.

Lacrimosa of Dana will always be my favorite. And Dana is best jrpg female character in the genre, fight me

None of these are really my speed. They definitely look really cool though. I'm mostly a JRPG guy. One-trick pony is me!. Having two kids and a job I work 60+ hours at every week makes it difficult to focus on more than one genre. Great video like always though.

I wasn't aware of Death's Door, and will need to check that out at some point. I have a number of other games on this list, but Sea of Stars is the only one I've played. A few indie gems that I always recommend are Gorogoa for a puzzle game, To the Moon for a more interactive story than game, and Undertale for such a creative take on RPGs. And my outside pick is Venineth which just has wonderful worlds to get lost in for a while.

All FF games are linear, so it’s funny how they complained that FFX was linear

Rebirth was absolutely mind blowing. I couldn’t play another game for months. It completely drained me. I spent the entire game either grinning uncontrollably, mouth agape, or bawling like a child. Legitimately one of the greatest games ever made. And yes, the OG is my favorite game of all time as well. What a great list.

I think we appreciated games more when we were young. I still remember getting emotional over Lunar: Silver Star Story, Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 7. Sea of Stars looks pretty good. Thanks for the recommendations.

Honestly I’m just sick of games with such strict punishment to the point of wasting your time. It’s one thing to have to learn a boss or an enemy’s patterns and get better at it. That makes sense. The whole “corpse running”, “lose all your currency and experience for not learning fast enough” shit needs to go die in a fire. If I could go back in time and kick the people at From Software in the nuts over this cancer that’s infested gaming, I would. How is having less access to upgrades supposed to support you learning the game? How is mindlessly grinding what you lost supposed to be fun? There’s no tension, it’s just “you fell behind so here’s an extra stack of homework”. Doesn’t really support the player at all. Maybe if you didn’t have to wait 3 bosses to actually get a health upgrade so you didn’t die in 3-4 hits it wouldn’t be as bad, but as it is, it’s just too much arbitrary punishment up front that just slows down how long it takes to get to a point of being better equipped, at which point it’s not as much a factor. It’s all ass backwards. So many games seem to have this problem of front loading challenge to the point of discouragement, only for that challenge to diminish the better you do. It makes no sense.
