I have to oil lamps a traditional oil lamp from India and a traditional middle Eastern genie oil lamp made of brass my favorite oil to use is olive oil to light them but i do use other oils from vegetable oil to other types of cooking oils but noticed olive oil burns the cleanest and gives off a longer burn time.

I find heavy stone buildings like this one incredibly charming. I would love to live inside such a building, but I know in reality it would be a nightmare to heat during the winter.

Not a good idea to to have the main entrance on the ground floor, too easy to attack.

It is best to use a guttus to fill the lamp with oil through the access hole so that the oil doesn't spill all over the top of the lamp which will just make it sticky (in modern times use a small funnel). Keep the wick low otherwise the oil will burn far too quickly. Clay oil lamps were the most popular because they were mass produced using the cheapest material (clay dug from the ground) and were the 'throw away' item of ancient times. Regular use of an unglazed (generally they were unglazed) clay oil lamp rendered it sticky because over time the olive oil seeps through the porous clay body. Bronze lamps were more expensive but far better and lasted forever. Finding your way outside in the dark with one of these is problematic, you would have to make sure you kept the lamp horizontal and the small flame has very limited illumination outside, far better to use a flaming torch made with a wooden handle and pitch tar etc. Not only did these lamps have a practical use but were used for religious purposes as votive offerings in temples and shrines.

I wonder what ancien technology could be added to it to make it more like a smartphone. Like, an abacus to make it a calculator, a mirror, a solar clock, an oil lamp for the torch. Stuff like that. Any ideas ?

tower houses don't recieve enough attention. they weren't just built for nobles. rich merchants would have them too. they are fascinating structures. imo, the peak of practical stone masonry architecture for everyday living.

Greek, and Roman wine was already somewhere between wine, and vinegar since they didn’t have anything close to the wine making techniques the French later innovated. But, the Romans would sometimes toast some barley or pine nuts, and strain the wine through it to filter out the more vinegary notes. So, they probably did the same with posca. I’d be surprised if they also didn’t mix in a little honey to counter the vinegar.

A simple and healthful drink is water, a bit of non-distilled apple cider vinegar, and some sweetener. It gives a good boost, and is fairly economical to prepare. I've noticed that adding ginger, turmeric, and black pepper helps with inflammation as well, and the taste is not really that objectionable, but it is not fantastic. Cinnamon and/or ginger is actually quite good with the sweetener and water. Just a wee tip. Nice video, and I like your "pinch of history" gaff. I thought it was humorous. Very informative video!
