literally just bought a twsbi eco pen (the cafe bronze of that same collection) in F and im so excited to hear a glowing review 😩 I think fountain pen shopping is still really nerve wracking for me yet LOL because there's just so much variation from pen to ink. But I'm breathing a sigh of relief now haha

i ordered the original techo avec (instead of the cousin like i meant to) completely on accident and coincidentally already had this video open 😂 but this was a good video. made me feel better about my little blunder haha. i'm not as art-savvy but I'm becoming a huge fountain pen nerd and I'm glad to see it's fountain pen safe!

I just preordered a planner for 2025 from Wonderland222 that will have the Tomoegawa TRP.

I think a Hobonichi will not really work as a planner for me sadly. I love the layout and everything about it, but the drying time for ink with fountain pens just doesnt give me the ability to jot something down and close it. Like, it's no problem to keep a planner open for a minute, but its just not practical as long as I'm using my favorite fountain pen and ink combo 😭

You can send your glass dip pen back to a glass pen maker to have it repaired 😊

You can swap out the Twsbi Eco nib wifh Goulet nibs of Jowo #5 so could find a replacement fine or extra fine.

I’ve bought Nolty planners from Amazon Japan in past years. Also other items not easily found in the US (I’m in Hawaii). One has to be careful on the Nolty listings though as the layout in each size/color option may be different - so important to look at the images after clicking on an option. I have a fountain pen option on my kindle scribe too so I understand, writes like a stub nib, so enjoyable. what Enjoyed the video! First time, you popped up in my suggestion.

I have the Kaweco Brass Sport and I want to love writing with it but cannot. It feels separated and not one with my hand. Thank you for mentioning the Traveller’s Company Brass pen- I will consider it.

I personally love paper planners only and won’t like the remarkable unless you can change the font color as I don’t care for black on white

Now having said that I adore the 3776 F nib, I'm wondering if you have any experience with the SF nib? I've been trying to find an ink that pairs well with it, but mine is just scratchy and hard starts - even inked with Able. The first part of the stroke gets almost no ink at all, and it doesn't feel soft like i remember when I first tested the SF nib (thought that was many years ago). Have been debating parting with it as I just don't see myself loving it as much as the regular F or even the Sailor F.

Hi Liane, I just purchased my first Leonardo pen as well. JetPens just started carrying them last week. I picked up Blue Hawaii and it arrived yesterday. I have yet to ink it up. Just like you, I was drawn to it since I love the beach and loved seeing the different blue hues and touch of brown to represent the sandy shores. 🌊

My M1000 Renaissance with EF nib arrived yesterday from Appelboom, and I ordered it with nib tuning and it’s marvelous. My first M815 had misaligned tines also and I promised myself, every pen I buy from now on will be returned if it doesn’t write perfectly. Very pen I order I ask them to look at the nib and make certain it’s smooth.

For future years: Jet Pens now carries Nolty planners. I keep considering them ☺️

Do you use the Remarkable to journal in as well or do you have a separate book for that?

I think the reason that Hobonichi switched to the Sanzen Tomoe River paper is because of the popularity of their planners and the fact that the paper is no longer being made. Their notebooks are still original tomoe river paper and will be until they run out; however, when they make the switch, they will let people know like they did the planners. Another place I found to get original tomoe river paper notebooks is wonderland 222.

Thank you for this video and the coupon code. It helped me decide to the get the pen. I love Opus 88’s and have a few in my collection. They are comfortable, lovely pens and the material on this one is very pretty.

Enjoyed the video, Liane! I had the same experience with a 52gsm sanzen notebook from Goulet. It makes most of my fountain pens feel a little scratchy. It's super useful to know that hobonichis feel the same way. I also had the same experience with 68gsm tomoe river paper! I use a Take A Note planner with 68gsm and love writing in it--my fountain pens feel super buttery in it, and the paper feels very plush. JetPens started carrying Nolty planners a couple months ago, you have successfully willed it into existence XD Wishing you the best on your Japan and Korea trip!

Your planner system is so refreshing, and I’ve heard great things about the remarkable! I stopped using my iPad for note taking because the screen would give me a headache and I would get easily distracted. It seems like the remarkable addresses both of those challenges with their screen and being a single task writing tablet. At one point, I also looked the kobo elipsa as well, but then I fell down the fountain pen / fancy paper hole. 😅 I agree there’s a difference with the sanzen paper. I thought there was something wrong with my VP recently, until I pulled out my Cousin from last year and realized it wasn’t the pen, but the paper that was different. :(

I also really enjoy remarkable 2!!! ❤ Nice lineup! I use my rM2 + the standard TN!!!

Wow Liane, what a change up! I love how you’ve moved to the passport size. I have been using the Weeks now as my main planner for a few years, and I’m interested to see how I’ll feel about the change to Sanzen TRP in that book next year. I mostly use a highlighter and Uni Jetstream in that though, so I’m hoping I won’t have too big of an adjustment. There are so many great notebooks available in passport size, I’m interested to see if you decide to use a different extra notebook at any point in the year. Baron Fig has some good paper and I’m sure many more. And the remarkable tablet is awesome! What a game changer for work, and so cool to be able to have the handwriting ability and the digital organization! I’m very impressed with these tablets but have no use case, so I’m glad to live vicariously through reviews like yours. Thank you so much for sharing! 🤘🏼😸🧡🖋

Soooo many people are leaving hobonichi due to the new Sanzan tomoe river I really like the GLP Creations The author notebooks with 68gsm tomoe river their cheaper than some but not the cheapest and they have beautiful leather covers I have one of each of them.. Youll have let me know if you ever try them they arent as small as a6 but I am thinking about getting the larger a4 model next month :)

You’re not gonna be able to get the old TRP either here soon. Any TRP from now on is going to be Sanzen TRP. Which for me works great and I don’t really see much of a difference

Yea, sad that the original Tomoe River paper is not longer being made. I have tried the new one so I do not know the difference, but I didn’t dislike the new one. But there are so many other nice papers out there 😊

Love the passport size for my daily logs / catch all. Its just the right size. Just want to ask...the pen beside the twsbi, is that a hongdian 1862?

This was super helpful! I forget to follow what intuitively/naturally feels right; I tend to make every journaling session a "whole experience," which honestly *isn't* helpful if I'm doing that every single time.

I agree with you about pens not gliding on the Sanzen paper, but I actually like that. A lot of the time on the Hobonichi TRP version, I felt that my pens would glide a little too easily, making it harder for me to write and causing me to have to grip my pen tighter. On other TRP brands, they usually have slightly less slip, like the new Hobonichi Sanzen paper.

Ah, I didn't know the Hobonichi paper changed, did they change the paper for all of their planners and notebooks this year? I didn't use fountain pens in my old Hobonichis, 2024 is my first year with them in this planner. I've had zero complaints so far 🤷🏼‍♀️

I bought three kinds of red winsor and newton ink hoping one would be red enough, they all look like the same shade of bright neon pink T . T, Cant even make the tone on the box with it

I wish i could have ancient copper in my veins thats how normal i feel about it 🤭 some my other favourites are Wearingeul Heimdall and FWP Misguided Mistletoe. Wearingeul makes a lot of great inks though. I quite like the look of your Green Umber and if i didnt have enough green ink already id be tempted to get my hands on it haha!

Gorgeous pen! I love the darker colors with the diamond cast. I think if I had a pen with that much capacity I would never go through all the ink before I wanted to switch it haha. I wouldn’t mind seeing Sailor Shikiori Mirui in that ink lineup; I think it would also be very similar as a super saturated dark green ink with red sheening.

Where did you get the wooden sample holders??? Have to have those!

What a gorgeous new color of the Opus 88 Demo! I love the pen and ink combo too. My Opus 88s are perennially fitted with a Parallel nib and a chromoshader. This one is going on the wishlist for sure. Thank you so much for sharing! 🤘🏼😸🧡🖋
