I love selling comics that I don’t like. I find it easier to sell comics that are hot that I don’t care about. I guess I’m still at the stage that It’s harder for me to let go of a comic that I like from the “collection” despite the fact that I became a “reseller” as a hobby to pay for the hobby. @ax_comic_book_xchange
kamandi ruled have the entire set
Oh, I loved those plastic bag packs. My parents would grab one of those when picking up my weekly Star Wars figure at Gibsons. So many random issues from Marvel & DC. There was a huge bust in back issue/vintage prices back in 2008. I got some really nice books at really low prices and I haven't really seen the prices go back up -- other than key issues from the Golden Age and Silver Age. And even then -- sometimes you find a good listing on Ebay. I got a really nice Brave & the Bold 60 for a buy it now 20 bucks on Ebay back in 2011.
been collecting war comics since 1961 have about 10.000 paid cover price for 75% of them and sgt rock is the man also sgt fury
More Plop!... And/or ppl in th world w/a sense of humor!
Those multi-packs were too hard to stuff in tube socks... and they made too much noise as ya were just tryin to get out th store undetected. Consequently, I've never had any.
Saturday mornings kilt Plastic Man. It was like seein way too much of an occasional GF.
Romance books are the shit right now.
This is why I Love your channel. The honesty. Thank you.
Love the Dell painted covers. Man, but you need them in High Grade
This is spectacular. I LOVE Animal Man, Hellblazer and Starman (James Robinson's Starman), collected them all back then. I live in Denmark, we had one comic book shop (sometimes another popped up for a little while then was gone again) and if they didn't have what you were looking for, it could not be found. I moved to Ireland for two years and I managed to get a full run of Animal Man, Hellblazer 2-up and Starman. Hellblazer 1 I could not find anywhere. It was like a ghost. Then the internet happened and MyComicShop and just last year, I was showing a director Hellblazer covers (inspiration for a horror film) and I realised I never did get number 1. So, I went on Mycomicshop and they had it. And it was cheap. I think the best they had at the time was a midgrade, but it was like 20 or 30 USD. It was nothing. I was shocked. I thought at least a few hundreds. You can buy a 9.0 for 90 usd. It's ridiculous. A 9.8 is 400. Animal Man 1 9.8 is 175. I just don't get it. I don't think these will ever be worth anything. I don't care. Animal Man and Hellblazer both have AMAZING covers and GREAT storylines. Another favourite of mine is The question - Dennis O'Neil and Denys Cowan. This run is just magic. It's probably my favourite comic book run of all times (Apart from Miller's Daredevil and Claremont-Byrnes-Smiths X-Men). And you cn pick them up for nothing. Cause they ae just good stories with amazing art and nobody gives a shit. They all want the "money books". Keep it up, suckers. I'll keep reading all the great stories and enjoy the amazing art while you are chasing the dollars.
Love all the Gulacy art.
Found you guys today by chance. Love your shows! liked and subscribed!! I use to collect silver age and had most of the key books before taking a 20 year break till 2015, I'm now loving the pre code horror more than anything... and yes... I also love your Billy Jack T-Shirt lol
Pre-Code horror is awesome and I'm glad you're back into it!
Cash Grab & Cash Grab 2 by Cecil Jones.
Thor 168 alot tougher to find high grade then Thor 169 alot of people want way more for 168 also if they have it in super high grade
Would've loved if you stuck to the point. Opening talking point was never flushed out.
It was an editing issue. I had more but we had to cut it due to something wrong with the video.
@futurepastvintagecollectables All good. I'm still curious about the definitive 'no' to your opening question. I'll check back in the future. Thanks for making content. Your years of experience is valuable.
The more I learn about golden age the more I love it. The history and rarity of them are just so appealing to many of us. Just wish I could afford them 😂
Love your content! Please keep doing what you’re doing. Best comic content on TH-cam.
excellent channel with great information. But I think, as an investor, one should buy when the market is low and sell when it's high or just keep them:-)
Well done you too the Father & Daughter love your show always showing and talking facts👍 keep up the awesome work you too The G Man Always approves. 😉👊P.S. Talking about retro memory Lane Love the Billy Jack Tee.nice touch. 👊🤟🤘
Wow so incredible that multi-pack!
I was the buyer of that 6.0 Young Romance 150 for $700. Love it, no regrets. Doubt I could ever score a 9.0 or 9.2. Jay Scott Pike was buddies with John Romita (both working on romances - Romita before the hero stuff) so compare Amazing Spider-Man 55 with Young Romance 150. Spidey 55 came out 1 month after Young Romance 150
I have had great luck using Mr Clean Magic erasers. I always concentrate on just the white areas first with a bit more pressure. Also a good idea to have a backing board covering what your not cleaning to prevent the page from creasing or folding and getting away from you. My next step is i use a steamer and completely steam the front and back, let it dry and stick it on the press. My press heats up to 203" then i flip it and shut it off. Boards under each cover with heat resistant paper as well. I dont recommend the press for the thick square bound comics because it really mashes them down. The spine roll took some practice but you basically need to have a board dead center of the book where the main staples show. Quickly with youre fingers move the bottom and or top in opposite directions until its aligned and then get it to the press.
High heat for short periods seems to stop revision. I always use boards in the middle while pressing to pop out the spine for better coverage
I remember the movie Billy Jack, as a teenagers we liked the character. When someone was too close to him, he will say a catch phrase but i don’t remember it. The movie was in the seventies and my memories is not as good as before 😉.
“Im going to put my right foot on your left cheek, and there is nothing you can do about it”. Great line!
@@futurepastvintagecollectables Thank for that. imagine when we were teenagers.
There’s no way, if you had a grasp on living through all of the other comic boom and bust cycles, the housing bubble, DotCom bubble, that you would not see that a book that was forever $1000 was now selling for $6000 based on movie or television show spec that would completely bottom out again. Too many people referred to the insane Covid crisis as a comic boom, realistically it should be referred to as a comic bubble.
Comics are an immature in unregulated market. Almost 0 books are an actual true investment, if you want a true investments in a low cost index fund from the S&P.
Your channel popped back up into my you tube algorithm today. I'm glad because I have been getting bored about hearing about many of the same books so often, usually just in different orders. As a newbie (1Year Collecting and Selling) I really enjoy to learn about more books and expand my knowledge about Comics as these are books that can be out in the wild and seeing them helps to jog my memory and maybe potentially find a good and kind of unknown book. Thanks for the help you two. I hope you have a Great Holiday
I'm on the exact same page re: selling books that I don't personally like. There are a lot of times I'll pass up buying books that seem like good values to sell later simply because I have no interest in them myself.
Great video and I love the Motorhead reference. God I miss Lemmy. However Spiderman 256 I recently purchased as well but it contains the Mark Jewelers insert. Maybe that was a factor in the purchase price of that consumer. TBH I paid more than 20 dollars
Billy Jack's the "MAN" 👍😎.....( I wanna' watch that movie now ! ) By the way I Love collecting comics...I'm goin' on 65 ,one of them old guy's you were talk'n about, so (watch it Buddy) 🤣....I am subscribed and I enjoy the content, take care !
I have over 25,000 comics... I will never understand collectors like you. I doubt you have read 5,000 comics. Selling comics is lame. That's not the Punisher's 3rd appearance. Punisher fought in Veitnam before he met Spider-Man, and I have at least 40 of those. If you want to call that the 3rd book, you might as well say Punisher 2099 is his first appearance. You aren't reading the books in order.
Thank you very much for the insight and the fun video - appreciate you guys and looking for to the next one! So, question, what do you think are the most under appreciated COVERs of the 70s, 80s, 90s? Thanks again!
My first comic experience came from my mother bringing home 1960’s bagged comics from the grocery store! Wishing to move vintage comics? You have to be creative! People who own slabs, should try selling them at coin and stamp shows! If you own an expensive comic collection, perhaps sell them through an auction! I unloaded all of my comics years ago and replaced my favourite titles in omnibus form! Good luck!
Had to drop a like for "Morbid Angel". I collected a ton of the "bad girl" books from back in the 90s, and "Morbid Angel" was the creation of Everette Hartsoe, who created Razor, Stryke, Poizon, and a ton of other characters for his London Night Studios. Always love seeing LNS stuff crop up in random lot videos! :) Also: holy cow, this unlocked a memory. I have had a vivid image of seeing the cover of either a comic or a magazine from back when I was a kid of a torture chamber, where the only thing visible was a guy sharpening a blade on a wheel, and the legs of a prisoner strapped to a table, with just the feet visible. I remembered seeing it in our local comic book shop when I was very young, and I've always wondered what on earth that could have been. I'm pretty sure it was a copy of that issue of Twisted Tales #9, which apparently came out in 1984, which is right around the time I remember seeing it. You've helped me solve a mystery I've been wrestling with for forty years! LOL! :)
Awesome!
"Billy Jack".....awesome.
What a Bad Ass Shirt!!! Billy Jack was my hero as a kid. I even had a hat like his in my teens. Excellent content as always! Just to throw this out there, Im intrested in the process of how you buy a collection being as you advertise that on TH-cam. Stuff like do you travel, how do you know if its worth even looking at, how big or small of a collection. I think that would be some good content.
ASM 134 is punishers 2nd and 135 is his 3rd. He in the last page of 134. Full page and some panels with speech bubbles
Excellent point! It may get updated, but CGC labels match what I said. It would be like hulk #180 if it was a first appearance cameo, but it’s not.
@@futurepastvintagecollectables I wonder how often these get graded? Maybe it will/has changed?
Great content! Love the Billy Jack shirt! That takes me waaaaaay back.
I’ve been collecting comics since I was a kid in the ‘70s and I’ve gotten hold of everything. These days, the favorites are romance (I’ll take sexy girls over guys in tights any day), PCH, Bronze Age horror, even war comics.
They mention comic shop in Puyallup WA, I grew up there, where Todd Mcfarlane brother-in-law ran a shop called Spiders Web. They use to have signed Spiderman books for like $20 bucks when his series came out in the 90's. I was just a kid, and new to comics, and never bought any because I could still get 10+ different books for that same money back then. The store went outa business a long time ago..... funny to hear shout out on youtube that brings back so many memories
Loved this video - thanks - new subscriber
More like this please!
Billy Jack! Love it!
I’m in Australia and I have collected since I was a kid. Having access to the latest comics and variants has not been an option until the last year or so when I discovered What Not. EBay has been an option but difficult to just get cover price new variants/virgins etc. Right now is where comics have become more accessible world wide and this is where it explodes. Just discovered you two but I like your content - cheers.
On precode the detractions sound bullish. You said people chasing it are 45+. Those people are not 70 or 80 years old and having nastalgia for them and driving the market like 80s toys (currently) whatever. They seem safer in the way that they are still chased after the remember childhood factor is gone. example would be western memorabilia which is dead because people who grew up with it are not driving the market and nobody cares. I am 43 and chasing after golden age more than 80s 90s books that i grew up with. Just my opinion. maybe im wrong.
The whole thing is personal experience conjecture to some degree, but who knows? There hasn’t been any true consensus other than some back of napkin notations about a “comic index” on the market as a whole.
I was hoping youd close with one tin soldier rides away
I could listen to you talk about comics all day. Thank you for putting these videos out. Would love to see you and your brother on anther episode in the future.
Werent the addams family regulars in the new yorker long before the 1960s
Awesome video!
I was watching as you talked FF173 and looked over at my wall and realized I have it in a 9.6 CGC WP...but it is the 30-cent price var. Perfect centering where you see Sue's hand on the right. Yay me. :p
