Demko is the new Benchmade
Excellent review!
Verry good review, answered all my questions. Merry Christmas!
The titanium one is nice and smooth I’m looking into buying the Ace Bibio blue G 10.
Thank you for bringing up the similarity with the Native 5, it's my favorite knife and the Bulldog makes me wish that Spyderco would make the Native 6 with a ball bearing lock like in a Manix. That would break the knife world.
It seems like they fixed the issues with pivot tolerances after the first batch of knives. It’s getting to be a common theme for tactile - the first batch of a new model hits the market with QC issues and manufacturing flaws, everyone complains, then tactile does what they should have done in the first place and sorts out the issues.
I absolutely luv mine! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
Cedric tested 15v and it beat rex121 and maxamet
I prefer the ergos of the caly which make the knife simply melt into your hand, but honestly these are completely different knives. The Native is much better in a pushing motion such as you might make breaking down cardboard boxes with its shorter blade and wider handle. Native is harder use for sure - you could cut carpet with it if you wanted. The caly on the other hand is closer to a pairing knife, and better at food prep or really any slicing motion. A knife is a tool, and it’s always best to have the more appropriate tool for your intended use.

So small to eat with it
I've realized that in my line of work, every steel dulls fast, im more concerned with how well it strops back and how fast it sharpens. Nitro v and d2 are literally my favorite steels now. D2 is harder to find done well though. I do like s30v and k390 with a coarse edge though. Maybe ill bring my cruwear to work tomorrow, its been a while. May have to thin the profile out a bit now after so much sharpening. Geometry will always be king.
I’m wanting to buy that knives in the back ground with those carbon fiber scales and the blade shape seen here. Can you send me a link and exact model number so I can find one?
S30v will definitely out cut s35vn with both having optimal heat treats and tempered hardness but that's rare in production knives. With that said larrins chart only gives a slight idea of what's really going on because he's using his heat treat protocols and small batch samples so it really doesn't paint that good of a picture for production knives.
I love the LW native and the carbon sprint but i don't like the G10 native very much.
There isn’t anything that the flytanium does that the Demko doesn’t do better. More blade shapes and steels from Demko too.
How did you get 10% less for the s35vn?. You need to look at that chart again bud. Way off! Knifemaker
So are you saying that at optimal hardness and quality of heat treat that s35vn will have more edge retention?? If so absolutely not, s30v will ABSOLUTELY out cut s35vn.. Knife maker here as well.
As you've shown, for the cheese 👌👌👌
It’s not even 8 inches. It’s not even half an inch thick. By no means is this a huge or even “big” knife. It’s NEARLY full size.
I like everything about those but the price lol, nice blades
I agree man! The k390 one is baller tho! And the hap40 is on my radar but it’s rare now! U should check out flytanium scales! I’ve got titanium on one of mine.. and carbon fiber on the other… I have a spare set of brass scales in my drawer I was gonna gift them to another delica owner
If they made a native 5 with a compression lock, it would be the perfect knife. Especially if they did it in k390.
Sage 5 lw just feels better quality. Too me anyway. The para3 lw is cheap feeling. Good for different steels though to swap in a g10 version 👍🏻
Yeah the geometry of the tagged out is pretty sick .. it's not no chaparral level laser beam but it's not far off.
So is this part of the Native line up like the Shaman? 🤔
11 months after this vid posted...Spyderco had the Sage 1 Maxamet on sale for $150. I couldn't resist.
Me too. LOL I am 100% satisfied with it too. Great knife!
Wow. Bummed that I missed that!
I’m generally not a fan of liner locks. Some time back, I picked up a Byrd Crow 2. I love the feel of it, and the liner access cutout really improves how the knife can be handled. I read about the discontinuation of the Sage 1 Maxamet and its replacement by Sage 5. With Sage 1 suddenly cheap (as low as $150 at Spyderco), I ordered one. After time spent with my four compression lock knives and the Crow 2, I’m really looking forward to the Sage 1 and its superior liner lock.
Opinions vary
Both?!
I ve spent the last few days watchin a shit ton of pm2 and manix review and this is by far the best in-depth review I watched so far, great job
Great review very thorough
Ripsgaragetech has scales and hardware for the sage5
That chart doesn’t reflect the superior BBB heat treat
A little late to comment, but as a Canis owner, I have noticed the thickness behind the edge especially in comparison to my wharncliffe Delica. As a plus though, it has an extremely useful tip that is noticeably sturdier than the Yojumbo. The fact that the Yojumbo has thicker stock can make cutting through cardboard just a little more difficult. While the Canis is far from my sliciest knife, it's comfort in hand and blade shape means that it frequently finds it's way into my pocket especially when dealing with cardboard. Lastly, the pivot bushing of the Canis gives it one of the smoothest actions of any knife in my collection. It's certainly an aquired taste, but it's a knife that I appreciate owning.
Thank you, good comparison. I have the Sage 5 in CF/G-10 but generally carry something small in my coin pocket unless I expect to need the Sage. I recently decided to go with the DF2 in PD#1 instead of the Chaparral due to several of the things you noted, including the relatively small size difference between the Sage and the Chap.
Excellent review thank you
I like the Sage 5 with FRN. And compression lock is a must have for me.
Owned used and abused the delica, loved it, lost it. Think ill buy the Dragonfly next.
First of all, every size comparison starts with the PM2, mkay? JK Thanks goe the great review!
The Bodacious is a great all-around knife IMO
I got the plastic one on sale shipped for 87 bucks Aus10
I love the Shaman for what it is (albeit a bit overpriced now like most things these days, but I got mine brand new for $134 a couple years back), and the ergos are spot on as well. The Shaman is a solid knife - not super heavy duty like a Cold Steel 4-Max or AD-10 (but the Shaman cuts far better than the AD-10), but far more stout than something like a PM2. It's a great all-around, medium duty knife......good for the farm, the backcountry, working in the trades, etc. The Bodacious is a relatively uninteresting knife - if it was $150, perhaps it would be more interesting.....but they have to be high to charge $270. Well, better yet, people have to be high to pay it lol.
I got the ad20.5 slicer in 20cv dlc and ultem, and ad20.5 clip point 20cv titanium. Thinking on getting the cub in shark foot blade.
I have that exact knife and I absolutely love the blade. Possibly my favorite blade with k390 And the slicey shape. Back lock is ok. But I hate Seki City handles. I don't love FRN but I much prefer US and Taiwan FRN to Seki City. I don't care about it looking or feeling like plastic. I just hate all those little grooves and nooks and crannys. Whatever is stuck on my hand during the work day - caulking, painters putty, drywall mud etc. just get jammed into every spot and are a bitch to get out. So I rarely use my favorite knife at work cuz I don't feel like cleaning it every week
Pretty sure the para 3 lightweight only has one washer. Bad decision
Like idk, i seriously think benchmade needs to give themselves a good long look, because almost every single other knife company that has done the crossbar has done it better, and kizer is easily the best. Also, their pricing and their grinds and their unreliable quality, it all just falls short.
I'm lucky to be lefthanded. I can flip it open so clean. I love this knife. The sharpness of the Swayback is scary 💪 Be careful it's upside down from most knifes
Mine smashed the aluminum handle with studs and the blade over travelled. Unfortunately the liner couldnt keep up, probably because the locking face one the blade is straight and not concaved. Anyhow epic fail for lots of money
The Stretch 2 xl g10 and Police 4 lw pd#1 have to be my favorites right now.
