    I definitely think there's diminishing returns starting from 200-300, for example I will always strongly think that my wing was definitely worth it, but I struggle with justifying the price of the Sasori, on the other hand, I think that my Superfly is super worth it compared to everything else I have, but that's only because I got it for 200 on discount. But in the end value tends to be quite subjective. Great video!

    A balisong, by definition, is a type of knife. A trainer is not a knife, therefore by definitin not a balisong. Flip what you want, just don't call it a balisong. :) Honestly, I'd flip more trainers if it didn't cut into my balisong budget. They're great for training, but don't get the same satisfaction without that tiny little risk involved.

    • @jakeflipsbalisongs
      @jakeflipsbalisongs 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well I can’t speak as to the satisfaction of live blades having never flipped a live one (that wasn’t a piece of junk). I would definitely call trainers balisongs. Sure you could be pedantic and say they are just “balisong trainers” but most people in the hobby today only care about balisong flipping and that can be achieved with a trainer or a live blade. I appreciate the comment though! 🙏 Edit: Also I have nothing else to call it as it definitely isn’t a butterfly knife (I avoid that term since TH-cam doesn’t like knives) and I think balisong trainer is too long to say especially since generally I say balisongs as in the entire hobby. Cheers

    First Bali was a live blade back in 2015. Definitely a situation back then where if you wanted a good flipper it was going to have to be a live blade. There was the bench made 40T which you hardly see and the prodigy. Squid was just starting to poke his head in the game but was still a couple years away from being squid industries. And of course there were some other options but nothing like today. Fortunately now for the people who don’t want live blades, a lot of makers are doing trailer versions of their products. Machinewise has a trainer variant for all its products and so does LDY I believe.

    • @jakeflipsbalisongs
      @jakeflipsbalisongs 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yep we are truly in a trainer revolution! I honestly think that in the coming years the community might shift its focus to false live blades more than anything but only time will tell! 🙏

  • @bruulbrainsmasher1210

    I'm one of those old school OGs (been flipping Bali song since around 1986). Trainers really sucked for many decades. Pretty much until Squid and BB Barfly got into it. Now that trainers are as good as they are, my skill in flipping has increased 10-fold. Prior to having a bushing, tight tolerance, trainer I plateaued at things like Bt8B, Hell Bent, Cherry Pickers, etc. I never wanted to do aerial tricks because I would get sliced up pretty often. Now that I have great quality trainers, I don't see a need to ever own a live blade except just to have it. They do look better IMO. The market is now seeing a lot more false-edge live blade or unsharpened options. I think this is where the industry should go. More false-edge live blades. Best of both worlds.

  • @DaneDePain
    @DaneDePain 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

    great topic, i flip trainers 90% of the time. I usually only flip a live blade if im camping (because i can also use it as a knife) or if i am working on my smoothness. i find it much easier to be smooth on a live blade because there is a actual risk if im not flipping smoothly.

    my opinion, you can slam a tang pen knife as hard as you want open and shut since the pin is in a steel blade and the pin will not feel hard force cause the slam is both handles clapping the pin so the pin aint being pressed in any direction because equal force from both sides. vs zen pins when you slam it the pins are being pushed in or out and can cause it to crack or break out or bend

    so, latch tricks, the only person i know who would incorporate the latch into their combos well and impressively, is @___hey.austin, bros an OG goat, check his older clips with his orange 51, and youll see some wild latch stuff. latch tricks are uncommon cuz theyre non existent, and theyre not very fun or rewarding considering how much practice it takes to even get decent at em. knuckle dusters can be impressive, when theyre not done in slomo lol, either closer to your hand so its not such a high aerial, and more of a handle transfer, or do a full rotation or more, add more to the tricks youre doing, you can even do it as an opener, those look pretty cool. but, tbh, rev knuckle dusters are much cooler in general. the cheater shortstop, the telltale sign of newer flippers, i did it myself way before i could shortstop, so im not flaming, but maaan is it such an underwhelming opening. just learn the shortstop, its way easier to learn if you separate learning the trick into 2 parts. learn the rev thumb rollover to middle finger first, get that motion down pat, then learn the actual catch on its own, hold the save handle with your middle finger on top, ring finger on the bottom, and the blade pointing out, then practice catching it. theres 2 hard parts to learning it, one is getting your thumb in between the bite handle and the blade, and the other part is actually having the handles connect so its in icepick position, its all about momentum. after that, just put em together and boom, shortstop. tldr: good video, beginner perspective of tricks, but tbf thats also why you dont see them super often, if you want to get a flipping clip, you wanna do harder tricks, no reason to pad your combo with filler if you can do harder stuff. goodluck learning the shortstop, and goodluck learning in general.

    I think Z-Choker is its own thing. It was way easier to learn than the Choker fan. For me at least. Some tricks you didn't mention are the full twirl, ladders, fans.

      I feel that twirls and fans fall into basic tricks that you have to learn in order to progress while I feel ladders are like an optional side quest. In general I wanted to focus on more specific tricks rather than categories
