You guys are so lucky to have trainers. The only way to get a balisong used to be flea markets and stands in the malls. Only crappy live blades. Got caught with one in school at 12. Banned from all public schools in the state and serious legal repercussions. All could have been avoided with a trainer.
My kids are 8 and 12, both can do the basic opening. Very proud dad! My daughter (the 8 y/o) wants a trainer, I'm thinking of getting her a pink Vulp for Christmas.
i personally am 15 and have been flipping for 3 years. Just got my first live blade a little bit ago (kraken v3). I personally think that anybody can start flipping whenever but should not use live blades until they are somewhat mature
Im also 15 and have been flipping for around 2 years, and I agree that almost all kids should stay away from live blades. Where I live, in the UK, you cant even own live balisongs at home due to legal restrictions, and honestly, I dont feel like I would trust myself with a live blade.

Yes, live blades are a whole different ball game that I don’t think kids (especially young ones) should be getting into
