I make fine art and traditional painting fun and approachable for people of all skill levels! I do Gaming, Oil painting, education, and anything that involves the fundamentals.
The Simple Tool That Made Old Art so Great
19th-century art feels otherworldy realistic, but HOW did old masters paint or draw like that? The guide to drawing accurate proportions starts with something called a plumb line.
*Note*: I would actually use something heavier than a hex nut. It will keep the weight steady while suspended from your hand. I'll buy a proper plumb bob from the store for future purposes.

You Suck at Drawing Portraits (and so do I)
มุมมอง 151Kหลายเดือนก่อน
We've all watched tutorials on how to draw portraits but no one gives the true secret that allowed the old masters to draw so well. Was the Loomis Method a lie? How do you draw head rotations? How do you draw a portrait? 1:30 dropping Morrowind songs in there all lowkey n such? Jeez
Yeh, sorry man, you're just completely missing the life in both subjects. Technically, the color and shape are fine, but the eyes are dead in both, unfortunately, they just look like mannequins. I think you need to focus next on capturing heart and soul. What makes someone look vulnerable, or proud, or arroused, flirtatious, or cautious? Start with caricatures or annimations if you need to, just so you're clear on the specific emotional state you're attempting to convey. Right now you're missing the boat entirely. Then, later on, make it more subtle. In these portraits and others I've seen from you, the emotionl presence simply does not exit. You're ready to move past the colors and shapes now; start focusing on capturing highly specific emotional states until the turn of a lip or lift of a brow communicates exactly what you want it to. Then, you're capturing the essence of your subject. Right now, you're just adding a bunch of shapes together and hoping for the best.
Terraria music is the cherry on top
You are an excellent painter, and fast too. It took you only a minute to redo what you had erazed. The face you painted looked real and human. Yesh
this is super cool. love to see you work and explain why you do things the way u do them, its a really refreshing outlook on art.
the rain formerly known as purple
thats incredible. this is the first of your videos ive seen and i love the format and info you give in ur vids. kind of reminds me of the early days of art youtube where it was really just about the art. cant wait to watch more of your stuff!
You talk so much about Seargent's technique with his bold strokes, balance, simple tones, and shapes without EVER mentioning his ability to not only SEE the emotion of his subject but to EXPRESS it with all the techniques you mention. So, yes, you clearly understand the line weights, turning shapes, edges, etcetera, but you are wholly missing the very thing that makes Seargent great: his ability to SEE and CONVEY the emotional life of his subject. It's more than the sum of great techniques. It must be the sole purpose of the portrait, not the sum of good lighting and brush strokes. You must LOOK for it. Attept to SEE your subject. Where is the life in them? Where to they live on the spectrum of human emotion. Focusing on technique without that in mind (and never making reference to it) is ike knowing all the technical aspects of a Hasselblad camera and thinking that makes you Ricard Avadon or Irving Penn. It don't. Your self portrait has zero life in the eyes, zero soul, and zero intrigue. Sure, you can say "It's an exercise" or "that'ts not my focus in this video" But it should be your focus every time you pick up a brush, every time you pick up a pencil every time you THINK about technique, you should recognise how it supports the emotional life of the subject, to communicate their singlular point of view. Otherwise, you're an architect. If you're not on a quest to capture human emotion in a portrait every time, then what are you doing? It's not about lines, it's about life and your video does not remotely address the life of the subject once. I say this all hoping you'll keep up the search and go deeper with your work. Clearly, you have the technical skil hopefully you can become more adept at recognizing and defining the emotional life of your subjects.
10:26 you can try to convert your tablet pc to a mouse or use Sober on Linux
Thank you from Denmark ❤❤❤
1:58 In all of this explaining you're doing, I seem to be looking at this differently than you, especially at 2:12 when you start talking about the composition of the form, but not the actual anatomy. I look at the twist and I immediately think about her skeleton. Namely, her SPINE. So your frustration is lost on me. A "whirlwind of flesh" can't twist if the spine doesn't make it.
by doing photography i understood something about paintings. color scheme are responsible for a photograph or painting to look good. the details don't need to be easily seen if the colors are good people like it even if the scene that we are showing is boring put the wrong color in a painting and it could be the best executed painting you ever saw people will not like it but will remark that if the colors were better it would be a masterpiece. colors or colours if you prefer with a U are extremely important for a painting to work
"most skilled painter oat" i dont see any michel angelo or raffael in this video

Boy, I wish I had TH-cam in high school! I’ve learned more since I’ve retired and found a few of these young artists than all the classes I have ever paid for! Thank you so much! ❤❤❤
Can you just get to the point about which colors to use to form unity instead of waste a bunch of time on what other people don't do.
This is so helpful and insightful. This reminds me that simplicity is important as well!
The minecraft skull with fire painting brought me back to my ild self🥲
