As someone who can't understand makeup for the life of me, I can confirm I also can't paint :)

The biggest thing that's helping me as a beginner is learning observation and construction. It feels much harder than just drawing the outlines, but it helps me to actually understand what I'm looking at and be able to do proportions more accurately if the drawing is bigger or smaller than the reference.

First time watching this channel. The artist definitely gives himself a bit of a hard time. He might only be copying something, but ask a garage to build you a Ferrari or a watchmaker to knock you up an A Lange & Söhne. Great work!

"Comic artist criticizing actual real art" IS SO FUCKING STUPID. Cause there is no way in my mind, one person can go and say old masters are better than mordern artists in any shape, way, or form. What modern animators and illustrators do is just far and beyond what was ever done in the past, because knowladge is more accessible and do not get me started on adult content artists like Rata, CAFIN THE MOTHERFUCKING GOAT, Derprixon. What people can do with such basic styles, from expressions and face game that's literally giving me chills to a posing that feels so fluid and natural despite being only flat colors, to animations that every horny teenager will come back to. Going deeper down the rabbit hole following any industry animator is like watching any great master say "I did a little project" and it's the fucking greatest masterpiece of all time. Following any Riot inhouse artist, or someone in company they commission is like, bro will paint literally all Kindred splash arts, making works of art that are beyond and + ultra, just to drop the most stylized, stunning and amazing art works of her with big futa cock later being pounded in completly different style, yet so much better than anything in the past, despite being cartoon style. Old masters were limited and the gap between them and Bo Chen, Hozure, or any cartoon porn artist for that matter is insane and i can't appriciate any old master seeing modern actual art.

The lesson from this took a while to get but I am so much a better artist for this since the moment it clicked

Of course, this is just a sketch but I think the lighting looks too bright and low-contrast (like, even within that limitation of not using full blacks or full whites). Maybe this is just a symptom of "Dark Fantasy" being such a broad spectrum that it can mean lots of things to lots of people but I feel like there needs to be more shadow and blockier/flatter shadows. And composition-wise the area below the sitting guy's left leg looks too empty. Maybe it'd be better to move that leg further to his left (our right) so his legs are a bit more splayed? I think that would improve the composition. And I did like the hooded figure's fabric pooling on the floor a bit, even if the guy isn't sitting on it.

As far as the general idea of the remorse felt by the character and the descisions that lie ahead, it might be interesting to consider the alternative paths that he could choose and where they would bring him. Jeff A. Menges painted the original art for the Magic The Gathering card "Swords to Plowshares" and the character depicted there with his back to the castle and millitary strength might be the antithesis to you character. Great video and very interesting thoughts on the process of creating. Keep up the good work
