Kielder Viaduct and Wood sculpture walk surprises and setbacks
Not every walk we do goes to plan, and this 3.5 mile loop from Kielder Castle was one of them.
For starters the weather was a bit wet to say the least, and the rain gor heavier.
We knew it was going to be a wet one, but thought a nice 3.5 mile loop around Kielder Viaduct and a short detour to take a look at Tommy Craggs excellent wood sculpture would still be fun before heading of to the Cafe for hot coffee and cake, and we all know hoe T likes her cake.
Well, the route I planned didn't work out and plan B wasnt much better, but we still managed an enjoyable 3 and and a half mile loop and had good views of the viaduct and the sculpture, even if we did get soaked and did a bit of "off piste".
I've included a link to our planned route on Komoot below (it should be open by now)

Are the oatcakes made with oats? Or oatflour?
Staffordshire oatcakes are made with oatmeal
@NTLife thanks . I thought it wasn't just oats,as I've tried to make them in the past, with oats and flour, and it doesn't work . The oats congregate in the middle of the batter somehow.
When they fixed your bike did they cover the labour cost or did you have to pay that. Please could you tell me the cost if you did have to pay so I know what I’m getting into because I’ve got the same error code, thanks
I had to pay the labour costs of changing the motor which was about an hours labour in total, as I also had the bike serviced at the same time, so the cost of the additional hour was negligible compared to the cost of the motor, had I have had to pay for that, which thankfully I didn't.
I think you should preheat the airfryer first for this to work
Looks like you need an e bike at this location?
Not especially, but you'll certainly get more miles in on an emtb.
Bros got drake on their chopping board
i’m gonna make these tomorrow
3:31 I washed out on that section. Mostly because I used the brakes too late
Thanks for the video and You're honest explanation of the route. Great to find out the type of level of the route before I get out there. Cheers
Glad it was helpful!
Yay, childhood memories. I grew up in Hopton I know those fields and woods like the back of my hand.
Glad you enjoyed it. It's a lovely area.
how did they hold up im gonna get a set i think Cannock is my usual spot
Err.. isn’t that a tortilla...?
No definitely no tortilla near, all eggs, cheese , quark, bacon etc
Thanks for sharing this, I'm hoping to give it a go next week as part of the Great North trail
Glad you enjoyed it and good luck next week.
It's a baked omelette.
That is correct, a baked omelette is called a quiche, this one is crustless.
I nearly fell down the hill on tom😂
Adverts,adverts. That’s what u tube has become
It's not an advert, just my opinions on my bike, that I paid for.
Hi I cannot find the app to change the power thanks?
You'll find it in the fazua app. By default you can choose ride 50, or ride 60, but you can download custom profiles or set up your own.
Great informative video! Looks a great ride. Hoping to be in the area in May. My wife and I have the hybrid bikes rather than full mountain bikes. Is the surface of the railway track fairly smooth or does it have rocks and stones and uneven surface? We have done the Tissington Trail and High Peak Trail in the Dales so wondered if the surface was similar. Not sure we could manage the rough and stoney tail you were on so would probably just go on the railway trail to the reservoir and back if its fairly smooth and no rocks and uneven rocky surface. Many thanks Martyn
I'd say the surface on the old railway line isn't as good as the Tissington trail in general, but you'll be fine on a hybrid or even gravel bike. It's a nice ride with good views, hope you enjoy it.
@NTLife Thanks for reply and information. I think we should be ok as our bike are good spec. Looking forward to the ride. Thanks again for video posted.
hey guys will defo be diving into your outdoor vids, jess mentioned your channel :)
Glad you liked it ❤
Looking to get one of these for comuting and weekend rides when i can make it out to a proper trail. I have a full sus so i was thinking the gravel would be a nice change from a mtb. How have you found it and do you think it be suited to a 6 miles commute witch is moderately hilly. I live in a rural area i was siding to a gravel e bike for when the roads arent very road like. Would you recommend?
Go for it! Very similar to why I brought mine. My mtb is a full sus emtb, which is great fun, but somewhat over biked for a ride from home around the rough lanes and bridleways. The vitus totally excells on these. I find it quicker on the lanes and great fun when I just want a quick blast after work or at a weekend. I can do 20 plus miles without thinking, they just roll by.
@NTLife I just missed it, there out of stock on crc now 🥲 might get the vitus e sontier, hard tail so it's still practical and it mannage a rip around cannock if I'm feeling too lazy to ride the full sus
That's a shame. Might be worth a look at an E-Sommet they get very good reviews.
Nice! .... what's Shiraka sauce? Lol
Haha that's TH-cam auto sub titles Sriracha is what you need
@@NTLife I'm on about your pronunciation hehe!
Hi, have ordered this one for longer commuting. Have a 42km distance. Just wondering what average speed could man achieve on asfalt? Some years back i had Cube mtb electric with weight 23kg, think my best average speed was around 27 km/h. Hope this bike does better due to aero and weight
Thanks for the video😊
Depends very much on a whole lot of things. How fit you are, how hard you ride, the road surface, the traffic, the amount of assistance you use, if there's a headwind or tailwind, the list is endless. All I can say is that on a comparable ride on 50/50 tarmac lanes and off road, I find it a bit quicker than my Cube stereo hybrid 140hpc emtb, but that is virtually twice the weight. But either way it's a nice bike to ride and very nimble.
@@NTLife of course, it all depends 😊 thank you for your answer. I will test the bike out and present the results here if you are interested Cheers
Hi again. Got the bike and tested it. Very windy conditions and on studded tires 2.1 averaged amazing 28.5 km/h. But this is zone 2 puls, I pushed on flats and downhills. Max speed around 58km/h. Nice surface and no stops. Very satisfied. Will see what this beast does in summer 😮😅😊
Thinking of getting one of these but a bit worried about if anything goes wrong and it being mail order . How would you solve an issue , I live over 4 hours from Fazua distributor, nice video , thanks .
I've not had need to contact them - yet, but I believe upgrade bikes have now taken on their warranty support, how good that is is left to be seen, but I've no experience of it to make a judgement.
I forgot to mention, the Fazua dashboard also shows the time, and the Green bar on the right mirrors the assist mode so changes to blue or red when you change the assist, plus it shows how much assist the motor is giving you at any time. Prety cool eh? If you have any questions feel free to ask.
Nice bike , I'm getting 35 mi out of battery with one bar left on my Turbo Vado SL 😊
cool, I wont mention my Cube stereo hybrid 140hpc then, I can get 60 plus out of the battery on that in tour mode, gotta loe a Bosch, heavy bike though.
With a Specialized shop 25 mi from me , I always get what they sell , can't beat a local shops support
Very true, always good to support your local bike shop, you usually get great service in return.
Really fancy one of these , just one concern , how do you sort out any warranty issues with motor or battery with it being a mail order bike . Nice video , thanks .
hi , got one of these in my basket sram apex model, are you still happy with it,
Absolutly, I have no regrets in buying it. Still thoroughly enjoying it and to date no issues.
Thanks for that , so I used to be able to bosh out 60 miles quite regularly on the MTB/road and gravel bikes but I'm a bit heavier and my enthusiasm has lessened, I'm hoping the assistance of electricity will get me back out and motivated
I used to ride the Marin before moving to Australia, fantastic trail and even better scenery, we used to have a rule that you weren’t allowed to use the granny ring, usually take about an hour and 15 for the circuit, your video makes it look easy without the climbs!
I have to say, riding an EMTB, even the uphills are fun! I do like the Marin though, I really need to get back down there and hae another blast round.
Thanks for that video, Just bought one myself and just finished putting my bits and bobs on. Unfortunately we are under about 6 inches of snow right now so not been out on it. They have put another 10% discount on the bike you can now pick it up for an unbelievable £1799 now from the 2023 model. Only thing i notice on mine is that unless you actually turn the battery off i get about 8% drain on the battery overnight. I have googled this and it seems to be because the bike does not go into a deep sleep until 8 hours have passed. I will look at this in more detail later. looking forward to some more videos.
TBHI haven't noticed a problem. I take my battery and drive pack off the bike at the end of the ride and take it inside to charge up for the next ride. I then keep it indoors untill the next ride. I've always done this with my Bosch emtb battery and after 3 years its still as good as new.
I have looked at it in more detail and hooked it up to the PC while it was in standby and it draws about 90 mA and it take 8 hours to shut down. It’s no big deal but just something to keep in mind if you’re away on multi day trips without the facility to charge as you lose about 7-8% of the battery. I tend to go on multi day tours and camp so I just need to remember to turn the battery off manually. I do the same when at home with regards to charging, will let you know how it goes if this ice ever goes away.
I've had this bike in my basket all week for £1999, then yesterday afternoon it dropped to 1799, so I've ordered it, hopefully I'll get my cycling mojo back
@@russlunn8746 Yes I seen that, that’s a fantastic buy. I really like the bike and I am lucky to own 4 system so can compare them (switch kit , shimano e7000, Mahle system and FAZUA. The big plus for me is how light the FAZUA system is, I bought the blank motor/battery part and that allows me to use a roof rack as it’s so light. The power assist is reasonable but in line with its intended use, someone who is reasonably fit needing help. It’s not perfect and as polished as shimano/Mahle but currently it’s the first bike I grab for forest roads etc. Let us know how you get on,
Oh 😮 😢really sad 😔 but I do understand that 😊xx
😢the pity is, you have to buy the book for the recipe and I am not in UK
You could try their Web site otherwise you might be able to buy the book on Amazon. Sadly if I post the full recipe, they'll have me for copyright.
2021 Cube stereo hybrid 140 HPC TM 625 here. My first motor died after 1000 miles with error code 550 (Water ingress) so got replaced under warranty, the Replacment motor has got over 2000 miles on it with no issues. I've had to grease the main pivot and shock pivots at they developed creaks, tightened the motor bolts up as they were loose and causing a cracking noise with side to side play on the motor which affected the gearing because the chain line would change. I had to put foam strips around the battery to stop it knocking in the downtube. I mangled the original freehub as it was only a three pawel affair and replaced the Newmen wheels with hand built Hope Fortus wheels. Through time I yearned for a longer reach as the bike was prone to wheelie going up steep hills and I do find the handling twitchy, probably because the frame is quite short with a steep - ish head angle and a slack seat angle. The suspension has been fairly harsh no matter what air pressure I try in the Fox shock but the Fox float 36 forks on the front perform reasonably well if a bit chatter at times. I do have two 625 W batteries as I'm 17 stone and don't get as much battery life as my lighter mates on their Trek Rails so I had to buy a specific backpack with a battery holder for longer days out. I've got itchy feet now so considering a new Canyon Strive or Spectral CF9 with a 900W battery. I've had a good time with the Cube in the Scottish hills and Glen's but it is time to move on to something more capable for getting me up and down those mountains. One thing I would say is the Cubes are brilliant value for not much money and to get a same specced Orbea, Santa Cruz, Specialized ect would cost you at least a couple of grand extra Keep on enjoying and having fun mate.
Sounds like you got a Friday bike 🤣 your post reminded me, I did have the dreaded motor creak at about 500 miles, but the lbs loctited and re tightened the motor mounts during a service and it's never re occurred.
Cube makes great bikes. I have a touring cube ebike myself and would highly recommend it. May I ask, what was the motor failure relating to when it failed?
It started to make a loud noise on a ride then after being powered off, ot gave the dreaded error code 500 - motor dead here's a bit mor about it - th-cam.com/video/5xY5u1qO5QY/w-d-xo.html
Great video, how did you find the sizing?
Pleasantly surprised tbh. I ride a medium mtb so thought the Large might be a bit big, but itvwas pretty much spot on and the size chart recommends a large for my height
Great video. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching!
nice vid! I have the chance to ride it this weekend but its going to be wet, any thoughts on how much different it will ride particularly in terms of the rocks? thanks
Just be aware irs slate, and will be slippy in places, plus the rocks can be very sharp in places. So ideally run tubeless and lowish pressure but carry a spare couple of tubes and some gaffer tape in case you have to bodge a damaged side wall, it's a long walk back if you do the full loop, and if you carry spares you can guarantee you won't need them. But, you will have fun, after the big fire road climb.
Rode it twice in August when I was in Cornwall for holiday. Destroyed a tyre and took a big fall on one of the tight switch backs. Agreed, good fun and well worth a visit if you are in the area, but as you mentioned the switch backs are awkward on a 29er, I was riding a steel hard tail and it was a challenge getting around them at pace, I suspect a 27.5 would have been easier. Anyhow, thanks for sharing. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, hope you recovered from your fall ok, oh, and was the bike OK?

Hi, it’s great to see the bike that’s behind all of your great videos. I’ve watched yours and some other people’s videos and all you usually see is the bars and grips. Talking of grips, are those Death Grips you’ve got on it? Are they any good? Enjoying the content, regards, Chris.
Glad your enjoying the videos thanks for the comments they're always appreciated. Yes they are Death grips, reasonably priced and feel good too.
Son of a chain slapped
Hi, great video, very informative. I’ve lived in the area for 13 years and only ever done road cycling and commuting. Now at the grand old age of 54 I’ve finally got into mountain biking. When I say “got into” what I actually mean is that I am completely and utterly hooked! Got a Boardman MHT 8.9 on the Cycle2Work scheme and did my first ride last week. I did Perry’s trail a couple of times and loved every single minute. I couldn’t wait to come back (the following day😂) and do it all again. I’ve got used to the bike a bit more now and also grown in confidence where my own abilities are concerned. I went back again this morning, and as it was very quiet over there, I had a go at some of the Follow the Dog trail. I really enjoyed it though I didn’t do all of it. Got up Cardiac Hill okay and there were a couple of those rocky bits that you mentioned at the beginning where I got off and pushed the bike. I think that as my confidence grows I’ll be able to do those no problem, though I do think that a dropper post would make things a lot easier, so that’s an upgrade I’ll definitely do to the bike. Thanks again for a great video, I’ve subscribed so that I don’t miss any content. Regards, Chris.
Thanks for the comments, glad you enjoyed it and have fun out on the trails.
