    Been hunting fish for decades, used to shoot weekends and an evening or two a week for years. Retired in 05, I stalk banks and shoot fish almost everyday.. literally. Shot 14 fish just today. probably 170 over the last week or so. I am in south Florida, we have a tilapia problem..lol.. they are in every piece of water here by the thousands. I don't particularly care for them but I do keep my neighbors stocked with fish. Now for the reels, I shoot an Osprey, I LOVE the bow.. I would recommend them above any others for doing this work, hands down. Now to the reels, the silver muzzies.. meh.. I have worn many of them out, some very quickly, to me they are not worth having. The tournament Muzzy, I have one,, I shoot 150# line.. that thing gave me fits with the pickup pins hanging out catching my line on the shot, pickup pins collapsing on the retrieve, just issues. I addressed every one of them as they popped up. First, remove one of the pickups and put it aside. Next increase spring tension on the one that is left. mirror polish the S.S. rim n the line pickup. Shim the rattley handles or they buzz every time you fire. Add a small diameter sprig onto the button to hold it and stop it from rattling and flopping about. Remove the spool, those PLASTIC rollers that are on the pickup pin, replace them or it with the same thickness and diameter stainless steel. lastly pull out the bearing under the spool, wrap with a thin strip of teflon tape and wedge it back in GOOOD. That stops it from following the shaft out when you push the button and allows the pickup to drop all the way, if it hangs on the shaft.. it interferes with the pin dropping and it hangs it up partially out. So YES. Even this reel could use some improvements... (paying attention Muzzy??). After doing all of these things, mounted to a gar god reel seat with a shoot through rod.. It actually rocks, I have made some LOOOONG shots on fish, 35 plus yards with it and it has reeled in a LOT of fish. I also have a megamouth 2.0.. the manual of "arms" is different on these reels. I shoot a lot of saltwater as well and that is where this reel shines.. it is able to fight a 30 plus inch Cubera snapper or a 110 lb southern stingray and not break doing it, it also shoots very nice with the 150# line. It can wear your hand out over a night of shooting constantly squeezing the retrieve bar, and this is where I like the tournament reel as it is shoot-reel. But the megamouth is by far the best reel I own, I have not had to fix anything out of the box I did polish the innards a bit the stainless ring on the line pickup now wears a mirror polish and the mold flash on the inside of the mouth on the hood has been eliminated and polished to 3000 so it is nice and slippery.. other than the fluff and buff it works perfectly. I was happy to add it to my arsenal. It does shoot a bit differently on the bow, so when I change reels and seats i do have to "practice" a bit before going out killing, That however does not bother me.

    17:34 Option 3, none of those things happen that he mentions and instead your line snaps back and potentially puts the arrow in you.

    • @ZZ-jd6vx
      @ZZ-jd6vx 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      A spinner will break the line and lose the arrow before that happens, and you don't shoot slides with spinners, tie them. A slide will allow you to fire a reel that is not free, where as tied, the arrow will pop off the knock when you draw.

    Bro the adjustable foot tension screw binds up if you got to tight. One side is right handed threads and other is left handed that allows you to tighten or loosen going one direction with nut. I was watching your video because I’m putting one on tonight. Take the rod seat off take out two Allen screws I had use pliers after took off left hand threaded side to get adjustment nut loose. Then it tightened up nicely.

      my set up seems to be ever changing. I am now running a 36v trolling motor off of a singel 36v battery . I broke down and bought a lithium battery to run the troller. The power delivery will be much smoother than running it off of a power converter and a generator. and by going lithium and only having one battery it is a weight savings. just not a money savings. lol... if ya wanna play ya gotta pay I guess. Thanks for wathching.

      @@muddyriveroutdoors4855 Yes Sir, I completely understand that, I have a 36 volt battery and motor for my kayak. I have had some issues with it this spring, after storage, currently working with the Manufacture in hopes of a warranty fix, slow process, but in the mean time, I am wiring my boat up for the lights etc, while I wait to see if they will help me with the 36 volt. I may go with a 36 volt trolling motor on the Jon boat, if I can get this issue with them resolved. Thanks again and have a blessed week my friend. Dale

    At about 12 minutes you talk about plugging into the gen first, making the line hot. My question is: could you have just ran a straight line from the converters through a rubber grommet, ultimately eliminating that "camper outlet"? I am about to do this same setup, so I'm wondering if that would be better

    I have owned one for a EIGHT DAYS. I am retired, I spend most of my days walking canals and ponds here in South Florida, Shooting Gar, Tilapia, Mayan Cichlids... Etc. I spend many, many hours shooting fish from the bank and my boat. Yesterday I had an Off day, I was consistently missing fish and slinging arrows wide, high and low. I thought it was me.. It wasn't. It was this reel. I lost 4 brand new arrows during the course of my shooting today. It seems this reel has decided to not retract the pickup pins all the way.. most times it does, other times they stick out far enough to interfere with the line going out putting a whole lot of drag on it and stopping the arrow short of the shot I was making.. and several times far enough to catch the line mid shot and break off my arrow!! I had to bring it home and operate on it.. hopefully it works correctly now.. I have had this reel only a short period of time and it has progressively gotten worse. I have fired roughly 1200 shots through it.. It was delivered to me on the 8TH of this month.. this is the 16th. If you are a regular daily shooter this is a DO NOT BUY. EIGHT DAYS AND IT IS JUNK.

    • @muddyriveroutdoors4855
      @muddyriveroutdoors4855 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yep I had the same problem with my pick up pins. once I changed them out to different pins I didnt have that problem. it seems to be the new stainless pick up pins are not made quite right. JMO. other than that I love the reel.

    • @ZZ-jd6vx
      @ZZ-jd6vx 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@muddyriveroutdoors4855 Well its a good thing I am an aircraft mechanic.. I tore it down, after several hours of studying it, it seems that the two pickup pins sometimes interfere with one another depending on where the ramp cam is when the button is pushed. I removed one of them and then re contoured the edge of the other so it falls every time. I then made a new spring for it with more tension. It drops clear with a little snap every time now. One pickup pin seems to be plenty.. and it is working 100 percent now. It should have been this way out of the box.

    • @muddyriveroutdoors4855
      @muddyriveroutdoors4855 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct I dont run any batteries. I was told when I did this set up that not running batteries between the converters and the troller would burn up the chip board on the troller. The chip board did finally go out but after three years of hard use. In my opinion getting rid of three heavy batteries was worth it since I got three years out of that chip board. That being said the lithium batteries I have herd are so much lighter and last so long that I am considering going that route.

    I’m a recreational bow fisherman and like 2 features the AMS reel has. First is the 350lb line. Shooting at carp in the tules and getting my arrow caught up it’s easier on my hands when retrieving the arrow back. Secondly I never have to think about releasing the line prior to shooting so I personally believe there’s less risk of snap-back.
