Not rocket science here. It's 45mp with a faster readout. Duh, you're gonna read a tiny bit more noise that you didn't read before. Why? You're reading it out faster, and now you have a little more noise captured. The camera sensor circuit didn't create more circuit noise. If the original R5 sensor had a faster readout speed there would be more noise read out of it too. The noise is there, the camera simply didn't read it out, because it had a slower readout speed. And plenty of rolling shutter too. I would have like to seen 2ms readout, with 45mp. Just to see how much more noise is read out at 45mp. The R1 has a faster readout, albeit its a lot smaller sensor area.

Absolutely gonna wait for Black Friday because canon usa puts out amazing deals. Last time r3 was around 3000 dollars. This time it gonna be more cheaper for used body.

Not at all, lighting works with every camera brand unless they make stupid beginner products with non standard hot shoes.

It is strange. Now we say canon catches up to Sony in DR with the R5MKII, but we already know that the DR from the R5MKII is less than the DR from the R5 (first version). This means that for 4 years everyone was wrong about canon, because the R5 had a better DR than Sony but everyone thought, that Canon is far worse than Sony in DR. It sounds like a comedy...

Pushing your ISO is actually great for getting short shutter speeds in good lighting situations. High ISOs are always bad in bad lighting scenarios, simply get a heavy, light eating lens for such lighting situations.

Flash Units? Two Nikon SB-11 and a Pocket Wizard IV plus some Pocket Wizard IIIs. Works forever. With all cameras that have a sync port.

I’m actually sitting here thinking maybe sell my 70 to 200 F2 eight use the money towards getting the 100 to 300 because I already have the 24 to 105 F2 eight so two lenses covers all that range up to 480 mm using the crop mode

Or better yet if you already have an R5, you just put it in 1.6 X crop mode and you’ve got a 480 mm F2 .8 giving you 17 megapixel

Great video. I can’t say anything bad about my Nikon Z500. It is the perfect camera for me. It does everything perfectly. No issues at all. If someone misses the shot by five stops with a mirrorless they need an eye doctor. Some of the big time influencers on line have a system. If they can’t find anything to complain about with the camera they wail about the cost. Apparently tears bring cheers from the uninitiated. I used to enjoy figuring out the work arounds with a new camera. Now the cameras are so damn good they destroy the mystery.

My general rule of thumb is to use brand parts while the object is under warranty. That includes not only camera batteries but components for my automobile or any other expensive piece of equipment where there is a manufacturers warranty I may actually need to use. Any non brand part can be used as an excuse to void the warranty. As for DR, if I have 6 stops in my composition, I try to find a different composition or I try to use the deep shadows or highlights to my advantage. I tend to expose for the highlights and let the shadows go dark. If the important part of the image is in the shadows, I try to find a composition where I don't have to include the highlights. In nature, we can't easily control the light but we can and should be more careful about our compositions and not just spray and pray with the shutter button blasting 30FPS hoping one of them turns out usable. Guess I'm just old and grew up shooting film. :)

But nikon z6iii beats canon r5ii in price

Peta Pixel just continues to embarrass themselves but they don't care as long as they get the clicks. Sad to see Chris and Jordan sucked into that mess. As far as the R5 mark II goes, it has an order of magnitude faster readout with minimal impact on image quality. Not sure how much more you could ask for but this is where we are now. Brand fanatics click on links so sites give them what them demand.

That's the problem, people looking at "CHARTS" and not the actual photos.

The Canon R5 II costs $1,800 more than the Z6 III, why compare it at all?

Lol what Canon has done is cooked raws with NR applied like they did with the R5. The Z8 has two advantages. 1. Native iso 64. 2. Pixel shift for landscape. You can take 45 MP shots with even lower noise at iso 64., and it's raw mode not jpeg. Watch dpreview iso invariance tool...wich is a real world example and you guys will see who has the better performance. I ain't the R5II.

I have the R5ii on preorder but was considering instead using similar amount of money to get. z6iii & a 180/600 but l decided to stay with the autofocus & layout l enjoy but my decision had nothing to do with dynamic range or lack of l just feel all these comparisons are like a competition there is far more to choosing a camera for me anyway.👍🙏.

Does anyone know why Dynamic range would be different between a mechanical vs electronic shutter on the same camera? Seems odd given it's the same sensor....

a1/z9/z8 has NO mechanical shutter(ms), that means an r5/r5ii user can easily switch to ms mode to maximize dr. sony and nikon will loss in all 3 iq metrics; maximum pdr, low light iso and low light ev, for heaven’s sake, the older r5(2019) with its ancient front side illuminated sensor(from dslr era), not stacked or bsi, still blows(ms mode) the a1/z9/z8 in ALL 3 iq metrics, same with the r5ii(in ms mode)

Good comparison Amar but...when you compare the Nikon Z8 or Z9 to the R5 Mark II electronic shutter performance to get a more apples-to-apples comparison of ES performance, the R5 II is no better or slightly worse. I would have expected a little better from the newer sensor since the Z8 and Z9 share the same sensor and the Z9 came out well over 2 1/2 years ago. My Z8 butt ain't hurtin' at all. 😆 They’re both very good sensors and apparently no manufacturer is yet giving us electronic shutter with substantial gains in DR. Tech will come along to change that but it’s not here yet apparently. Maybe the next Nikon flagship or Sony will surprise us.

DPAF and stacked sensor, makes DR worse and worse. A tiny readout improvement at the compromising of DR, it's really not worth it. Canon is running on a dead road. Canon needs a new leadership to turn the road heading to an affordable global shutter.

Thanks for the video. Good to know. But I don't care. I pre-ordered it for other upgrades like AF, less rolling shutter, and Eye controlled AF if that works for me. The final image is what I care. I never have to turn a night scene into a daylight scene anyway.

Id like to point out, that the triangles mean, that canon uses baked in noise reduction (nikon doesnt). From CineD tests we learned, that noise reduction in raw will increase DR by 1-2 Stops in this type of measurement. Even so, none of this will be felt in the real world, the overall image and Lenses is far more important imo… what i care the most about is soft highlight rolloff and great, natural color, and these 2 is where nikon has an edge. Canon has its own qualities and their cameras are technically superb nonetheless.

Well said Amar. This is such valuable information for new or inexperienced digital photographers. When I'm shooting in low light situations I use the fastest lenses ( f/1.4, f/1.8 ) I own to keep the ISO as low as possible. As you so well articulated the lower the ISO the higher the dynamic range and lower the noise level. Very cool educational video format Amar.

Damn, good to know that it's not just me. My X9 Pro started messing up and I've only had it 2 months. First it was slow to load, then started being slow to open files and now it auto ejects itself after freezing...

I needed this. I’ve heard false reports that the R5II’s dynamic range was worse than the original. It had me skeptical on my preorder. I’m definitely keeping it now. Can’t wait to get mine. 😎 Thanks!
