Overhead Straddle Side Bend (plate)
มุมมอง 1.2K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
This is one of my favorite oblique/QL exercises that works with a very minimalistic gym set-up. It's one of just a handful of oblique exercises that can effectively be done in an alternating fashion, so just one set needed rather than doing a set on each side; this also allows it to work well when paired with an another exercise as a superset.

This is a very stable option for training the obliques in the lengthened position with a lengthened bias resistance curve. The weight belt is necessary to stay anchored to the floor when using heavy loads.

Half Kneeling Twist (Lengthened Bias)
มุมมอง 1.7K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
You can set-up the half kneeling twist in a variety of ways, but this angle and leg orientation works very well for getting a lot of load across the obliques in a lengthened position while feeling very stable. Follow me on IG for more: alecblenis Check out my programs: linktr.ee/alecblenis

I hope i'm this mobile at 80 years old. Very impressive
What a champ ❤
Why is no one asking what type of shoes Bob is wearing? I want to be like Bob.
This man is an inspiration! Such a hero!!!
Phenomenal video! I thoroughly enjoyed the interview. ❤
This is one of my favorite videos of the year. Simple, straightforward, compelling evidence that exercise is "use it or lose it" as we age. I'm close to 60 and run, bike and swim. But after 50, my motivation came from the social interaction as much as the goal setting and improvement. Having fitness friends and joining groups keeps you connected, not isolated. And, I mean, your probably not going to win badwater or the New York marathon at 60 or 70. It can be depressing as you realize that you're not going to get better, just working on holding on to what you have fitness wise. But holding on and maintaining brings it's own rewards, and that combined with friends who are athletes keeps me motivated. Does Bob use Run/Walk? Or were you just stopping to talk on camera? On a personal note, there's so much love in this video between grandfather and grandson! I think that's my favorite part. Well done!!!!
I'm so glad to hear that! That's a great outlook - I've been thinking more about how to have more fun with my fitness and make it a bit more social (part of the reason I started this channel actually). As for the run/walk in this video, I think it's partly because it was a hilly route and we were kind of chasing our "pace car" (my wife was filming from the trunk) and it had us running a little too fast at times so it turned into an interval workout for Bob!
Your grandfather is an inspiration 😀
Wow! Sooooo inspiring! Keep going!!!
Alec, I say this in nicest way possible. F*** YOU FOR HAVING A COOL ASS GRANDPA. I didn't even know I wanted a cool ass grandpa. I'm pretty sure mine was smoking opium or some crazy crap at 80. I hope I manage to keep my head on this well and continue exercising long into old age. Also, on a serious note. Your grandpa has a good mentality regarding injuries. Some pain is not bad!
Alec got good music taste 🎶 A car this fine, don't pass your way, everyday. Don't you wanna ride baby 🕺🏾
Thanks, Alec, you are both inspiring.
Memphis isn’t so bad after all
Grandpa is an inspiration to all!
Very cool! I started running at 68 and at 74 I'm planning my first marathon for 2025. Did my first half last year. It's given me back all the energy and mobility I'd been losing the last couple of decades. Can't imagine life without it now.
That's amazing to hear! Keep up the great work
Amazing. I've been feeling a bit over the hill at 40 lately. This really helps reframe that
This made me smile!
epic
The grand pa i want to be
Dude, this is so freaking amazing.
Awesome
bit shifty in the knees around 19 mins he is getting it up good, but would benefit from better depth overall in the squat
Legend
Awesome
Go Bob!!!!!!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 He is a very nice fella!!!!
Incredible mindset - I hope to be the same at his age!
Dude is a living legend
9:43 - words to live by
This man reached bad ass, and then kept going. Not sure the English language has an appropriate word for him.
Super inspiring - not a word I throw around a lot but definitely an inspiration to me!
Mr. Bob, Coach Bob, Mr. Summerville!
Very inspiring to see this. I have subbed. Thank you for sharing your grandfathers journey. I just lost my GF at 87 years old and I wish he had been this active in his past years.
Booooyeah!
Good shit!
Man, it is super interesting to see the difference in how your granddad carries himself and compared to some of my relatives and in-laws who are younger than him but don't exercise. If he put a ski mask on I would not be able to tell that he's his 9th decade of life. Inspiring stuff.
Incredible! 💪
This is too cool. We should all aspire to become like bob!
I don't care how fast I can run when I'm 80, but having Bob's mental sharpness would be sick. Somehow I feel it'll correlate with how fast I can run though.
Definitely the youngest 80 year old I've ever met
What a great video. So inspiring.
Based
Also a good excuse to hang out with grandpa!
This was awesome
This is what GPP is all about :)
should people with herniated discs incorporate spinal flexion exercises in their training routine?
Thats so wholesome, God bless
Thank you 🙏
So cool to see your grandad's mindset and approach at 80 ❤
I hope to have half the spirit and positivity that he has when I’m that age. It’s amazing
Transferability of strength is why I switched from powerlifting to strongman. Just because someone can bench 405, or deadlift 700lbs doesn't necessarily make them "strong", especially if they specifically focus on those lifts. Powerlifting is all about moving as much weight as possible, not about getting as strong as possible. An 800lb kabuki dl bar sumo deadlift with bumper plates and straps to hold onto the smooth center part of the bar executed by a 5'6" dude with a 6' wingspan doesn't even come fucking CLOSE to the kind of full body strength required to deadlift 800 on an axle. I got sick of my lifts being seen as "equal" to those. I think atlas stones and zercher lifts are the most undeniable ways of displaying strength, you can't cheat either and what makes them so great is no matter how your body is built/proportioned, your back is gonna be folded over. Someone with a strong as fuck back is someone that's gonna be pretty well rounded and decent at everything. On the shortened position; anecdotal but I've only ever done leg curls in the lengthened position, using the logic "my knees will never be in deeper knee flexion than this when deadlifting, so why go would I train that ROM?" I've decided to train the shortened position more now, thinking "you kinda use your hams to pull your hips down, so maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to develop more strength and stability beyond that initial starting position, as it may aid in maintaining my hip positioning for the first half of the lift". We'll see how it goes. Another thing I'd like to share is the importance of training glutes in a shortened position. I had APT and was getting crippled by lower back pumps on a daily basis even outside of the gym, no amount of direct glute, oblique, or TVA worked seemed to make a difference. Not joking, one session of atlas stones and then doing a standing hip thrust iso hold in full hip extension fixed my back pumps. I imagine if glute strength and function in the shortened position is THAT important, it's probably a good idea to take a similar approach to my hamstring training. It's honestly miraculous I've never so much as tweaked my hams lol
Ultimate respect.
Mindset carries him a long way... lots of dedication and hard work over time. Inspiring!!
Seriously I cried a few times watching this 😭🙏🙏🥰💪🫶🏼
Your grandad is absolute inspiration! I can’t believe he’s 80! I feel more encouraged than ever about my future🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤💪💪💪
Yes! That's what I love to hear :)
So inspiring ❤
Insane! Your grandpa is a true inspiration. Keep it up Bob
