Very cool! I started running at 68 and at 74 I'm planning my first marathon for 2025. Did my first half last year. It's given me back all the energy and mobility I'd been losing the last couple of decades. Can't imagine life without it now.
I thought I was late to start at 48, in two yrs of running, I've done 1/2 marathon, 2 full marathon and a solo 50k to celebrate my 50th birthday. Running is an addiction 😂 I hope at 80 I will run with my grandkids too. Thank you for the video.
What an inspiration. I'm 67 and have ran for over 30 years. I can relate to everything he said. Set backs happen, but you can't give up. But your grandpa is a whole new level of determination and fit.
This is one of my favorite videos of the year. Simple, straightforward, compelling evidence that exercise is "use it or lose it" as we age. I'm close to 60 and run, bike and swim. But after 50, my motivation came from the social interaction as much as the goal setting and improvement. Having fitness friends and joining groups keeps you connected, not isolated. And, I mean, your probably not going to win badwater or the New York marathon at 60 or 70. It can be depressing as you realize that you're not going to get better, just working on holding on to what you have fitness wise. But holding on and maintaining brings it's own rewards, and that combined with friends who are athletes keeps me motivated. Does Bob use Run/Walk? Or were you just stopping to talk on camera? On a personal note, there's so much love in this video between grandfather and grandson! I think that's my favorite part. Well done!!!!
I'm so glad to hear that! That's a great outlook - I've been thinking more about how to have more fun with my fitness and make it a bit more social (part of the reason I started this channel actually). As for the run/walk in this video, I think it's partly because it was a hilly route and we were kind of chasing our "pace car" (my wife was filming from the trunk) and it had us running a little too fast at times so it turned into an interval workout for Bob!
Very inspiring. I love how generous Bob is with his praise and how humble he is. Bob is amazing. I’m 72 and running but I won’t do a spartan. Spartans require a lot more than running. I can’t stand the cold water and the heights. But I do what I can. I love exercising and doing my best and, like Bob, I seek to be good for others.
I see where you get your determination from. This is such a sweet video. I love that he keeps up with the younger folks. So cool that your family is so active. I love that he just keeps trying to work through it no matter what - I really hope people see this. I have seen people give up much younger for MUCH less. Keep the great videos coming
Man, it is super interesting to see the difference in how your granddad carries himself and compared to some of my relatives and in-laws who are younger than him but don't exercise. If he put a ski mask on I would not be able to tell that he's his 9th decade of life. Inspiring stuff.
What a cool video. I'm 60 but running isn't my thing, I just walk everyday and lift weights a few days a week. I thought I was in shape but this guy puts me to shame. I need to do more! I'm going to do more now that I see this.
I don't care how fast I can run when I'm 80, but having Bob's mental sharpness would be sick. Somehow I feel it'll correlate with how fast I can run though.
What a wonderful attitude for the both of you. I am sorry for the loss of your dog, Bob. I cried like a baby when our dog of 15 years had to be put down (kidney failure). Keep it up guys. Very motivational video. I am an active, 70 yo guy, who will be having both hips replaced soon, and love seeing stories like this. I plan to continue running, bicycling, and strength training.
Great video! I love Bob! I started running at 56. At 60, I started running in a group with Bob on Saturday, long runs, and Wednesday speedwork. He's amazing, taking all those YMCA daily classes, riding his bike, and all. I remember when he had that stent put in and back on the running track the very next day with our group. That was super amazing! Now at 66, I'm on a run streak, on day #623, still running with friends, mentoring, and my favorite part, running with my 12 year old Grandson, to keep him football ready. Bob is right! Running is rewarding in so many aspects. Especially when you can share your running wisdom with kids and adult beginner runners. Also, some people in my neighborhood call me crazy, but others admire me being out there, no matter what, getting in my daily run miles. It's a great lifestyle to be able to keep moving and in better shape than many 20 year olds. Keep going, Bob! I'm always cheering you on! You inspired me to stay active and to keep running. Thank you, Bob! 🏃🏃🏼♀️🎉🎉
I wish you could get him to do speaking events for older people…hell, even younger people. We’ve been witnessing and epidemic of obesity and poor nutrition and neglect for the last 25-30 years. And the sad truth is it’s not getting better. Thanks for recording this! This could very well be the key for many people to make a change.
I'm from the UK, and our winter Spine Race starts on the 12th Jan. 268 miles, almost non stop along the Pennine Way, starts in England, ends in Scotland. Not for me though, I've hiked it 4 times, but I do admire the people who can run it.
Your grandfather is very inspirational! I am 65, and hope I can do what he does if I am able to get to 80. FYI- I hope his doctor did a bone density test on him after his fracture stepping off the ladder; yes men get osteoporosis too and a bone density test is indicated after a fracture. How do I know? I am a physician, I had a fracture, I had a bone density test and I have osteoporosis.
So awesome!!! I hope to be moving like this at 80 too! I started running at 53 and am 61 now. I've qualified for Boston with every marathon, the last one 40+ minutes under my needed BQ time. 3:08:22. Shooting to run sub 3 this year at age 62. I run 5 days a week, 45-66 miles, one day at the gym and 1 day completely off. I'm still running sub 20 5ks every few months. Love to go talk trash with the HS and college XC runners in my area. They make me feel young again! LOL I just ran the World Marathon Majors AG championships in Sydney Australia and ran 3:11 in Chicago just 4 weeks last. Running has taken me around the globe and I have friends (in low places) everywhere now!
I started at 49. I thought that was late. He is clearly an athlete. Choosing to get stronger and train for the injured hamstring, wow ...mind of an athlete. Taking notes. Thanks.
Wow what an inspiration 😎 I said to myslef I will stop running by the time my running form deteriorates. This man has a really good form and springy stride. Wish you good and active life together 💪
Very inspiring to see this. I have subbed. Thank you for sharing your grandfathers journey. I just lost my GF at 87 years old and I wish he had been this active in his past years.
I'm 80 and I still run, but only off-road, and only in the colder months, really dislike tarmac and concrete. In the warmer months, I long distance backpack.
My name is also Bob. I live in Melbourne ( Australia) I’m 70 ( 71 soon) and I run around 40K a week ( up until a few months ago it was around 90K). I do a 5K race every Saturday ( ParkRun) and for my age I’m a fast runner. Anyway, my point is that you are never ever to old and “ what you don’t use you lose” I take cold showers, do a 14-16hour fast after my evening meal take supplements such as NMN, Resvatrol ( and others )
I'm an active senior and very inspired by Bob. His insistence on running through injury is a little puzzling though; it's unclear how anyone (let alone an 80 year-old) can continue on without a chance to recover.
Hi, I can see how it would seem like he’s not giving his injuries proper attention, perhaps even irresponsibly so. However, there’s 2 main points I’d want people to takeaway here. 1. Evidence generally supports the idea that rehab does not have to be pain free, and that some pain during rehab (within pain threshold, and using pain response as a guide to adjust future sessions) is generally superior to avoiding pain in rehab completely: PMID: 28596288. To summarize the meta-analysis, it found that across a wide range of injuries, allowing for some pain in rehab didn’t slow healing times but did ensure higher fitness status was preserved - this is especially important for staying healthy as you age. 2. That being said, this doesn’t mean you should ignore pain completely (that would be an oversimplification of point 1) but instead use it as a *guide* and modify activity level based on the pain response post training. For example, Bob is still running, but not as fast or as far, compared to when wasn’t injured, but isn’t letting the pain stop him from physical activity altogether - he’s gradually ramping back up his training volume and intensity as he heals. Hope this clarifies things! Unfortunately there’s no simple answer for how much pain is okay, but instead you simply have to use some trial & error to assess how you as an individual respond to the training stimulus and modify accordingly. The key is not to hyperfixate on pain or assume that pain always means damage
Ongosh, I’m watching this video on a loop! You are so inspiring. Thank you My only (& best haha) 10k was 56:44 in 2013 @ 53yo. I’m 64 atm and been running off and on since grd 9. haha a lil while. You’re inspiring… you hv a schedule.. just do it 👍 👋 Chris, Ont 🇨🇦
I used to run, but haven't since I dxd with Ostioporosis in my spine and hips. Started deadlifts and squats with the Bone Clinics Onero program. Lots of us 50s 60s 70s age ladies who are lifting heavy to improve thier bones and strength. ❤
Fantastic video, for me at 62. I love these kind of stories as that’s exactly how I want to be at 80 years old, he is a true inspiration!
Very cool! I started running at 68 and at 74 I'm planning my first marathon for 2025. Did my first half last year. It's given me back all the energy and mobility I'd been losing the last couple of decades. Can't imagine life without it now.
That's amazing to hear! Keep up the great work
In my 70s I only managed two half marathons, 10 years later I prefer to run alone.
I thought I was late to start at 48, in two yrs of running, I've done 1/2 marathon, 2 full marathon and a solo 50k to celebrate my 50th birthday. Running is an addiction 😂 I hope at 80 I will run with my grandkids too. Thank you for the video.

So cool to see your grandad's mindset and approach at 80 ❤
I hope to have half the spirit and positivity that he has when I’m that age. It’s amazing
I am 80 as well and I enjoyed this talk run with Bob. I am still out there as well as we are meant to move. All the best Bob
Very inspiring. I love how generous Bob is with his praise and how humble he is. Bob is amazing. I’m 72 and running but I won’t do a spartan. Spartans require a lot more than running. Wow - I’m 67 and trying a comeback. This is so inspiring!
So impressive going really strong at 80! And... He started at 67! Amazing! He has to be in the top 95 percentile.
Beautiful video. People need to respect their elders. They have so much knowledge to pass down, you just need to listen.

Definitely the youngest 80 year old I've ever met
I'm 73 I'm still fine@@alecblenis

Im right in saying this man is fitter than almost all the people in their 20s in America..
You’re absolutely right (unfortunately)
Love this! Need a “what I eat in a day” from Bob. 😊
My new inspiration! Thank you Bob!! God bless you! Thanks for sharing this Alec!
Talking and running. The best indicator of fitness❤.
This is so nice to watch, such an inspiration. I hope I am still running at 80 🤞
Whoa....80yo and still running. That is an inspiration!

Yes! That's what I love to hear :)
Insane! Your grandpa is a true inspiration. Keep it up Bob
This inspired the heck out of me. 17:26 "The best recovery is exercise."

Great video, thanks for doing this.
Thanks man 🤝🤝
Mindset carries him a long way... lots of dedication and hard work over time. Inspiring!!
Great video bro, Bob is the man!
Your grandfather is very inspirational! I am 65, and hope I can do what he does if I am able to get to 80.

Inspiring stuff. Never too late to start.
Amazing. I've been feeling a bit over the hill at 40 lately. This really helps reframe that
This is too cool. We should all aspire to become like bob!
So awesome!!! I hope to be moving like this at 80 too! I started running at 53 and am 61 now. I've qualified for Boston with every marathon, the last one 40+ minutes under my needed BQ time. 3:08:22. Fantastic example of 80 ❤
I’m 41 years old and I run 🏃 a lot since age 19. Very inspiring video 😊. I’m going to subscribe to the channel after watching this video 😊
Thanks! If you’re runner you’ll probably enjoy the previous episode with Kirk too
Thank you Bob! It hurts but I am going to do it anyways!
I'm 65, male. I run or bike 8 flat miles / day, 5 days a week to work (4 miles each way). So 40 miles / week. Hope to be fit like him at that age.
Hero, right there!
Your grandfather is an inspiration 😀
I started at 49. I thought that was late. He is clearly an athlete. Choosing to get stronger and train for the injured hamstring, wow ...mind of an athlete. Taking notes. Thanks.

Very inspiring to see this. I have subbed. Thank you for sharing your grandfathers journey. I just lost my GF at 87 years old and I wish he had been this active in his past years.
I enjoyed every second of that.Thanks.
What a refreshing video this was! Finally a video for the rest of us.
I'm 80 and I still run, but only off-road, and only in the colder months, really dislike tarmac and concrete. In the warmer months, I long distance backpack.
Thanks!
Thank you 🙏
Let alone his running his gait and walking is that of a young man at his prime.
He definitely has good form!
So true. He walks like a 20 year old .
My ADHD youtube tolerance is 5 minutes. I wanted this to continue for at least 1 hour.
Awesome video! Go Bob!!
This man is an inspiration! Such a hero!!!
Dude is a living legend
Love this so much. Well done and thanks for sharing
Ultimate respect.
What a great video. So inspiring.
Wow that’s so inspirational , running with your grandfather
Dude, this is so freaking amazing.
This made me smile!
Absolutely love this!!! Life goals right here!!!
What an inspiration. Damn
What an absolute sweetheart! Go Bob! Good luck from Australia.
Thanks!

Very cool to hear - keep it up!
Incredible mindset - I hope to be the same at his age!
I'm 55. I wish to run with my grandchildren at 80.
I’m 14 years behind you
Wow, nice neighbourhood!
Where is it?
Nice much respect.
Thanks, Alec, you are both inspiring.
Thank you :)
Phenomenal video! I thoroughly enjoyed the interview. ❤
Thanks for watching!
What a slacker on Thursdays 😅😅😅
Go Bob!!!!!!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 He is a very nice fella!!!!
Bob!! You Rock 🫶🏼
Wonderful interview and a wonderful man. I know inspiration can be an over-used world but Bob truly is.😊
I agree! I wouldn’t say there are many people I’m inspired by but definitely am by him
At 80, just getting out there is a victory
Love this
Wow! Sooooo inspiring! Keep going!!!
So inspiring ❤
He looks incredible
Hes my hero too👍🇺🇸
Incredible! 💪
Go Bob! 💖
Seriously I cried a few times watching this 😭🙏🙏🥰💪🫶🏼

Awesome video. Where was this filmed? Such a beautiful location with amazing houses in the background.
Thanks! Filmed in the suburbs of Atlanta

A wonderful man. Sorry about your dog. That’s always hard.
Also a good excuse to hang out with grandpa!
I hope i'm this mobile at 80 years old. Very impressive
Wearing the heart out be careful 3 -4 days Zone 2. Add some sprints & resistance training. Follow the science
I’m more geared towards lifting free weights and calisthenics with some cardio, but what an inspiration you are!
Thanks for the video
