Yes, power tool action tossing ample amounts of saw dust everywhere is way more exciting to watch. But the boring steps leading up to the moment we can power up the tools is critically important.

Will the mark V accessory fit on the mark 7 machines? I wonder as you still can get some 2nd hand that are no longer available on the new machine.
great breakdown comparison
Great Tools! I'm a retired Industrial Designer. I have the following WORX Tools: 4.5" Circular Saw, Multipurpose Blower/Sweeper, LeafJet, Hydroshot, Switch Driver, Multi-Tool, Cube Vacuum, Gutter Pro, 21" Lawn Mower, Trimmer/Edger, and Snow Blower. They all work well and are very well designed ergonomically. I will continue to add to my collection as needed.
As a new person to the Shopsmith, I actually found this extremely valuable! I think Shopsmith should have a straight up safety video like this. Also for little things I didn't realize off the bat, like the quill arm being moveable, and the quill being able to close the gap for smaller lathe needs (as I haven't had the need yet for either). Thank you!
EtaJere. the G is soft ,it's French
When you disassembled the old guard, do you remember how the nuts and washers were arranged? The shopsmith diagram isn't very clear on there website.
One note with your grinding method. As you remove material from the edge, you are rotating the tool into the belt, and that will change the angle of the sharpened edge, if you are doing more than just a light 'touch' to it. I'm wondering if you made a jig to work on the table with the 12" sanding operation, that you could hold the tool fixed to the table, then sink the sander into the blade, and endure that you'll never be changing the angle by rotating it into the sander.
Keep the shop smith, I have a wen disk and belt sander and in 2 months the wheel on belt sander broke, cheap plastic.
Please, do you have the.plans for.this chair?
Just got one of these in a job lot. The plane has rust, and the blades are very rusty- even they ones still wrapped. Far from sharp! The blades are very thin, and I would expect chatter. The fence has very crude fixing, very much an afterthought. I have a Stanley #10, so unlikely to use this...
Seen several of your videos & each one has had some seriously good points - this being not to have a sharpening station where all your stones are locked into some kind of recess side by side. (It’s for sure a disaster of a way not utilise them properly)👍 good stuff Tom
Correct me if I am wrong; the tubes on the Mark 7 are stainless, the mark 5 tubes are plain steel and subject to rust if not treated periodically. Correct? Great vid in any case.
Very thoughtful and informative video. Thanks 😊
Use feeler gauges to set the bar distance from the belt plate
I'm sure there are plenty of lovers of this thing. I'm on board right up until the table saw! Something about that saw setup seems very unsafe vs. a contractor saw, or anything bigger. Not trolling, just seeing this as 1940's tech and enthusiasts who insist on using it still. Built like a tank for sure. And proud to see American Made still appreciated. Let's just be sure we aren't inviting new folks into the hobby to get hurt via the complexities of setup of this beast.
There were so many "start" and "download" buttons on the page, be careful with what you download. The name was Let's compress or something. so i didn't install that one, the one in the blue "download to pc" is called Inkscape Setup.
Where can I get parts for these I have one and where the air line is it’s cracked and probably needs some new gaskets and a good cleaning
My takeaway from this video is that it is probably better to buy a better quality iron from elsewhere (unless your $$ are worth more than your time by a long way).
Shop Smith
can you show how and what these clamps be used for?
Buy worx nitro those are the big boy tools
So you DO regret buying the Rockler one?
This was so very helpful!!! Thanks for making this video and sharing your practical and useful woodshop nerdery!
Please do something about the sound quality
It's also important to flatten the face of the frog as if not flat, it can distort the front edge of the blade such that it is not as you think.
that preasure washer which is small is great deal for washing car. now have you tryed to connect normal preasure washer? how long it takes to unwind hoses wires to prep all yes it will have power etc, but than you need to put evrything beck and after using twice you already washing car in car wash :D this small tool is you stick garden hose and go wash a car end up work pop hose out and your done. get real wwe use this tool only for car wash
I love the sound of a plane sheering through wood
One slight gripe: four inches of movement is on the low side for a drill press. Not a deal-breaker, just a little annoying.
for hobbyists, Fusion360 is free...
Someone critizing a tool here by using it on a WOBBLY bench?
Bench the bench
WOW - This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thank you!!!!!!!!!! SOOOO GOOD!!!!!
Millimeters or an inch based on 10s as found on an engineer's ruler are more accurate than an inch based on 16ths. The former are a LOT easier to work with and to achieve a greater accuracy when cutting pieces.
Are you getting any snipe?
Thank you. Truth!
I am not very experienced with computers and have traditionally done my design work using pencil and paper. I would like to upgrade to drawing on the computer. It appeared to me your tutorial outlined how to create a view from one angle, which was impressive to me on its own. I envision creating a 3D model of a 2x4 piece of lumber. My goal is to be able to rotate, twist, and view this 3D lumber piece from different angles. Ideally, I would also be able to create and assemble all the 3D lumber pieces for my project, and then manipulate the view of the complete assembled model. Hopefully, I explained that, so it makes sense. Can I do that in Inkscape? Thanks in advance for your input.
John Malarkey is an idiot. TH-cam still recommends his videos to me. It looks like he's devolved to buying TEMU tools and 1-star Amazon tools and reviewing them. He's a mouth-breather.
I completely agree. The reason these are all over marketplace for so cheap is because the users died but the machine didnt. I can yank the tarp off of a 50 year old shopsmith, do a little work and run it for $250. My alternative would be a $25 craftsman table saw that also would need work and isn't a comparable device. Why are the craftsman so cheap if they are so good? (A lot of them are fine obviously) Tool pricing and availability is so disingenuous and anyone who knows anything knows that. I can't recall if it was you or Mark who, rather cheekily called it a "thinking man's machine".
A question and a comment. I have a 10-ER and a Model 510 and use a foot switch for lathe work. Is there any way to do the same on a PowerPro? Comment: thanks for the bit on the under-table configuration. I realize there are a couple abilities of my old machines that I haven't discovered yet.
Great video! I am starting my collection of Worx products myself due to the 20v batteries fitting most of their products. I really appreciate your assessment of those you have. You showed some that I was unaware of so think you. Keep up the good work.
Tom, this is such a great video that I just had to remove my “like” and re-like it! So well done.
if I had these types of irons, I would do the ruler trick. Im personaly not spending 4 hours on a blade
What was the software you used to do your drawing?
Ahhh, I posted a video today asking what the bit was....and wallah! You answered. It is for cutting tongues. TH-cam is great......and so was your video. tHanks for posting. (unlike my videos...which are lame....on their best days )
$5295 is a relatively high price . JMO
Just a suggestion: any cheap "touchscreen stylus" will let you use a capacitive touchscreen without relying on your fingers. Buy one and hang it from the machine on a little leash and you'll never have to worry about it (or need to take your gloves off).
Sorry to hear you shut the channel down.
I liked your video a lot. I recently got a shopsmith model 510 from my father in law. I learned some more watching your video. I do have some questions though. When setting up the shopsmith for a 45degree bevel cut I can get the blade centered in the area on the table. I found if I remove the rubber on the tube I can but I’m not sure I’m supposed to do it that way.
I’m gonna miss you! I just came across your channel and as a Shopsmith owner, I really enjoyed what I have seen so far. Thank You.
Me too!
Excellent demonstration of “some” of the advantages of the movable motor and quill. Thank You!
