On my channel, I will be showing what ever it takes to repair any broken component on vehicles or reviving vehicles that have been sitting for years.
First Time Derbying at Grant County WI Fair. POV
This was the first time for me to derby a vehicle in Grant County's fair grounds. This was in the fall of 2024. I was super nervous but glad that I had the opportunity to do this. This was my POV of the derby.

Looks like a good time!
It was a good time. My buddies did all of the work to the van. I just had to drive the thing.
When did they change it to a roundy round chase ? I like the way it was better.
As long as I can remember, that was a part of the night of destruction. During the night of destruction, they have an Enduro, figure 8, and trailer races. There might be more classes as well but I did the Enduro with the mini-van.
most AMC had a turquoise metallic color with a shade of green Amcs have it on their sites this is a Pontiac or something it would look better with the AMC paint.
Neat. Good to know
Rod brgs. "not bad" just terrible! And how come one main had oil channel and the other one not?
I'm not sure. This is only the 2nd engine I've taken this far apart. I have nothing to compare it too
Hey Robbie, quick questions When you removed the door panel for the 66 thunderbird to do the window repair how do you remove the cables to the driver door mirror control knob? Also how do you remove the driver door window motor without removing the regulator? Thank you ☺ 😄PS: would you be willing ro post more videos on the 66 thunderbird? love your videos on it! 👋
I didn't remove the mirror controls when I removed the door panel. It was a pain to do, but it's possible. If you want to remove the window motor, you will want to remove the whole regulator with the motor attached. I don't know if you can remove the motor from the regulator while in the car, at least safely. I'm excited to get back to the thunderbird soon. Since the gremlin is driving, I can do more with the thunderbird again. Thank you for the nice comment.
There will be spring tension on the regulator when you remove the motor. So be safe about it. I used a battery jump pack to run the motor until the tension was off the regulator
Nice job sir cool truck Dodge Nice show sir 😃👏👏👏👍👍👍
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Better moving now than never hahaha, glad to see'er movin! Whats your plan, keep it close to as is or toss bigger wheels and suspension on it?
I'm planning on putting some big tires on it. It used to have 31" tires when I bought it, so it would be nice to get some back on it again.
I love it
Thank you. I appreciate it
It's a yard find. Your yard, but that's fair.
It is a good yard find. Lol. Thank you
@@robbieshobbies93 I have a barn find I need to get working on. It's a '92 Mustang LX 5.0. Been parked since 2007. 135K ish miles on it. Single owner. My barn, I'm the owner. I should get on that, to be honest.
That's cool! My buddy has a 93 Mustang 5.0. That would be a fun car to get back on the road. That's super cool that you are the original owner, too.
@@robbieshobbies93 It's the only new car I ever bought. I know it needs mufflers, brake lines and (the reason it got parked) a starter (sad excuse, I know, but I discovered that on mid-tour leave and didn't have the time to address it). After all this time it surely needs more. But things got in the way: I was gone for a year, I was working too much when I got back, changed jobs, worked even more, had to take care of an elderly buddy and then his estate, was disabled, got enabled, worked too much again. Now that Calypso Green Metallic snot is sitting there calling "Hey dummy! You keep thinking about wanting to drive me, why don't you?"
25 years ago I bought my 1975 Gremlin.Power steering, bigger rad,and alt. Roof rack and swing out rear windows. Paid 50 dollars too much at 100 bucks. Ran and drove so to speak. Has been challeng8ng fixing all its issues. They can be a kick to drive. Keep up you great videos.
I love the story, and thank you. The car is actually a lot of fun to work on.
hey, it's been a long time since you did a video on the 66 tbird! Question, I have a 66 landau model like you do, with four power window switches, but i know I am getting power at some of the switches but all the windows do not go up or down at all. What do you think the issue is here? ☺
That's a good question. I know for mine, the switches seemed to not always get a reading or were lower voltage than I figured, but they work fine for me. If you got voltage at the switches, even if it's not a full 12 volts, that should be good. I would then take the door panel off to see if the voltage is getting to the window motor. Just undo the connector in the door and see what kind of readings you get while messing with the switches. I would think if you got 10 volts for even a moment, it should move. If you do have decent voltage and it doesn't move, it's probably an issue with the motor or regulator. If you don't have a voltage, then you might have an issue with the wiring to the motor.
Great work Robbie. Can't wait for the next project.
Thank you. It'll be a nice change of pace for a little bit.
Your Gremi has come a long way. Well done. We either need a different engine or a rebuild on our inline 6. It started making taping noises on the way home from HotRod Power Tour last month but... it did make it to Nashville and into Kentucky and back home, to south of Atlanta, around 650 miles so, can't complain. Thanks for the video!
Thank you, Tim. If you guys end up posting a video of the gremlin on power tour, I'm going to be quite jealous. Haha. A gremlin is an interesting choice to take on power tour, but I think that would be a really fun trip. I'm glad the car got you guys home fine. Amc made some fine automobiles.
Sweet gremlin. We gotta keep these old AMC's alive and kickin'!
Thank you. I love the Gremlin. It makes me want to get another amc. Even though I probably shouldn't. Haha
Nice job sir Nice AMC cool car Nice show 😃👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much. I'm glad you are still enjoying the show.
been watching this off an on since the start - enjoyed it, thank you....Gremlin is an underappreciated car
Thank you, I appreciate it. It's been a good car.
Nice show sir cool AMC 👏👏👏👍👍👍👍😃
Thank you. I appreciate it
As an AMC owner, aficionado, historian and restorer.... it pains me to see a black-painted engine bay. AMC, like Chrysler, always painted the underhood area body color. But, it is cool to see this car slowly coming back to life. I wouldn't worry too much about that temperature - that's about the "normal" spot on the gauge. I had a Hornet with a 258 that run about that temp. Perhaps a secondary pusher fan for emergencies might be a good idea. I've even been considering that for my Javelin. That dim alternator light also means you've got a bad diode in your alternator.
Thanks for all the good info. I still need to fix the alternator, so that's really good to know. I'm hoping to paint the whole car later. I wasn't sure if I would want to paint the engine bay again and so it may not match if I left it red. It's good to know the temp gauge was within the safe area the whole time. It was a very hot day for the cruise, so it probably won't be in those conditions very often, but I still might try to improve its cooling abilities.
Did You Flush The Radiator, And Put new antifreeze, Change thermostat, If the car Sat a Long Time You have to, Go's For everything else Plugs wires oil change, The Car has to have those, Or your asking to Much Out of the Car, It runs the way you Treat them.
Yes. I went through and changed all of that.
I owned a 76 Gremlin Back in 1981, Drove it to Texas 2 time from Conn, It was a Great Car, I,m a Chevy and dodge man at Heart, But nothing but Good to say about This car, Good Luck, should Be fine, Just don't beet it .
Thank you. It's been a fun little car.
Cool smoke show! Makes the trip, and keeps on goin! Thanx for the looks Robbie!
Very nice! I'm loving this.
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Cassville Car Cruise is one of my favorite car shows of the year! It's always a good drive and some tire smoke.
Glad to see you again, Kurt. I just added your tag to the video. Thanks for the comment.
Don't get it right, just get it running!
Heck yeah! It's no fun with it just sitting there.
Power amc
It's a fun car
Leaning on the Everlasting Arms... great song brother! Cool to see a 360 in the Gremi!
Thank you Tim!
Now that's what I call a project. One of the kids (mid 20 something) I work with just inherited a 73 Gremlin from an aunt that passed away a few months ago and he absolutely LOVES it, it's the perfect car for him, He's married but they don't have any kids and he commutes 45 minutes one way to work and it gets great gas mileage and it's in pretty good shape, Sure it needs some odds and ends, and like every car 10 years old or older out here in Arizona does it needs a paint job, But it's a GREAT everyday driver plus it's cool enough to have fun in on the weekend going on a road trip, to a cruise-in or a cars and coffee.
That's really cool. My Gremlin has been the most fun I've had with a car. So I'm glad I bought it.
@@robbieshobbies93 Yep, they are fun cars, years ago I had a 74 Hornet and that car was a blast to drive.
Nice job Nice show sir cool car 😃👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
Thank you for still watching. I'm glad you are enjoying the car.
Great job! Keep carrying spares and tools and always expect the next thing. It's an adventure! Thank you for sharing your journey.
Thank you! It's been a fun adventure for sure with this car.
Super cool. car!!!
Thank you. I appreciate that. It's been the most work I've put into a car.
More progress, and more power! I did the same thing in the late seventies, but used the engine and trans from a salvage pool police Matador. You can buy fuel filters with a third connection on the output end. Orient it with the offset tube upwards, and run a line from this back to the tank. This will greatly reduce vapor lock. The electric fuel pump is always a good idea, especially installed below tank level, as you did. You don't ordinarily need a relay for the fuel pump, unless you have auxiliaries, suck as a roll over cut off. 5 amps is plenty big enough for a clickety clack fuel pump! A good place to connect it is the ignition side of the ballast resistor, or the wire going to the electric choke pull-off. This is hot whenever the ignition is in the "run" position. I'll stoke my memory bank to see if I can come up with worth while thoughts on the work I did with AMCs back in the days, when I was in my 30s and full of ambition! Did a lot of fun stuff, and am proud to see there are still young enthusiasts willing to learn and do stuff themselves!
I love the story, and thanks for the info. I may go back to a mechanical fuel pump eventually if I can find a way that uses a return line. So I'll have to check that about that fuel filter. I appreciate it.
I’ve had the same thing happen. Pack up the car and get the wife, after talking her into it. Jump in the car and the goddamn thing breaks down. Finally get home and she says, “Have fun. I didn’t wanna go anyway.” Discouraging, indeed, but push through!
Yeah, I just need to push through. I know it can be improved. My wife is understanding about it, too. The electric fuel definitely helped a lot with the issues I was seeing.
Dude, you did inly wire the turn on side of the relay to the coil didn't you
I only used the positive side of the coil to turn on the relay. The positive side of the battery is powering the main common that gets switched on to the fuel pump.
Progress, slow and steady.
Yep, it's a lot better with that electric fuel pump.
do you have parts list especially where you found the bracket? you find the info on a forum?
I got my inspiration from scarebird.com. They have a bracket kit available for gremlins where you use a specific caliper, rotor, and brake hose with it to make it work.
What brand paint did you use on the engine bay?
I used dupli-color rust fix over any rusty bare metal and then rustoleum's brush on paint.
@@robbieshobbies93 it looks good in the video did you have brush lines after it dried ?
@enjoythesho1992 There is some, but it's not obvious. Most of it looks great, in my opinion. If you buy a good brush, you usually won't see brush strokes. But the whole car is far from perfect. Lol
A couple of videos ago I did the painting of the engine bay, if you want to see some more.
I would JB Weld the nastier holes, and use license plates on the holes in the body LOL
Nice job Nice amc good show 😃👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
Thank you. I appreciate it
The outer holes on the exhaust manifold are supposed to be larger to allow for heat expansion. The inner holes by the two center exhaust ports are smaller to locate the manifold in position.
Oh, I didn't know that. That's good to know.
Good to see you got it on the road ,my friend had a gremlin with a 401 ,4speed it was a very quick little car ,congrats on a good job Robbie
Thank you. I appreciate it. Your friend had a cool gremlin for sure.
Congrats on getting it done! I went down a similar road in the early eighties, and it surely taught me a lot from my mistakes! In my case it was a 1975 Gremlin x, and the engine donor was a police spec Matador. Finding that the 304, 360 and 401 AMC engines have the same external dimensions, opened up a much wider "small parts" source to me, as the Gremlin was offered with a 304 from the factory. So, I installed the 360 with 727 Torque flight transmission in it. For my exhaust, I went to the local independent muffler shop, and they bent me up a pair of pipes fairly reasonably, using mostly the stock bend settings with 2 1/4 pipe. The car was a regular beast. By some fluke, I didn't break the original rear end, although I had an 8" Mustang rear on hand! Later, I harvested a 401 from a wrecked Ambassador police car, bought a flywheel for it (AMC engines were at least mostly, externally balanced.) I put that one in a 1974 J-10 pickup, which I had purchased new with a 258 in it. It was a pretty tough truck, but top speed was about 65 (bring your lunch) Turned out to have Dana 44 axles front and rear with 4.10:1 gearing. I had a wrecked Cherokee for parts, and used the 3.54 axles from it. The Cherokee axles are not quite as wide as the J series, so I ended up rebuilding the 4.10 axles. As for setting timing, see thunderhead289 you tube. He recently was working on his Gremlin, and timing issues came up. He is very knowledgeable, and is an engineer as a daytime job.
That's really cool. And yeah, I saw the thunderhead289 video on his gremlin. I've been a fan for several years before he released it, actually. This amc is my first, but it has been a lot of fun to work on. I feel like I'm hooked on them now. Haha
I hope the unibody has less rot through than the body. Thats some major crust. I love these little cars. I had a 72 withe the 232 sixw auto trans. Mine rotted out behind the drivers seat. Memories.
Mine is mostly rotten on the sides where you can see. The floor pans are actually not bad, surprisingly compared to the rest of it. It's a fun car.
I used to have a 72 x with the same motor and all I did to it was dual exhaust and custom wheels and that little car with just the 2 barrel kicked a lot of butt lol people hated to get gaped by that little car.lol enjoy it man. Great job!
Thank you. I would love that car. That's real cool. That's pretty similar to mine. I'm hoping to have a quick small car.
Love it but budget hell, I'd 300 hp budget that baby.
That would be real fun. I would love that.
You need a window for the back. Should be able to pick up one at a savage yard reasonably. It's OK to be cheap, but don't be ridiculous!!
I've had to learn the hard way on that at times.
would be better if the front wheels matched the back!
Yeah I would agree.
Been following this build pretty close. I’m building a 74 gremlin myself. I have a few videos on my TH-cam if you would like to check them out sometime? I’m looking forward to the progress on yours.
Thank you. I'll have to check some of your videos out.
It's good to hear that running. Congrats. Those are speed holes, lol😅.
Lol the speed holes do add some character to the car.
weld the holes, that'll stop the leaks
Ha that will be the end goal. I just don't want water getting in the holes if I get caught in the rain.
Robby, r u going to paint the Gremlin? If so, will u do it yourself?
I definitely would like to paint the Gremlin. If it's getting painted, I definitely will be doing it.
