I had a brand new 1974 Gremlim white with orange stripes. Had Levi's interior. It had a 258 straight six. I drove the heck out of it, and the 258 never missed a beat. That 360 will be a hand full :)
Do a leak down test to determine where the compression is leaking out from (valve or rings). The leaking core plug isn't going to cause any internal engine issues except for a coolant leak.
You can get lighted boroscope camera attachments that plug into your phone's USB port for next to nothing online. I got one about 6 years ago for about $12. Picture quality wasn't as good, of course, but it was still well worth having around. I need to get a new one, though, since my phone uses a USB C port instead of a USB micro, and my phone doesn't wanna play nice with adapters for some reason. Maybe something worth checking into!
@@robbieshobbies93 Hate to ask, but in case you're anywhere near as prone to overlooking big details as I can be, figured I'd ask anyway: Did you also get the crossmember to go with the 360 or are you gonna make/buy some mounts to fix it to the one you've got?
If #6 has compression, it should be firing. At worst, it might have a burned valve. #5 has no compression - that would mean one of the valves is for sure hung open and/or stuck. Time to pull the rocker cover and do some Scooby-Doo style investigation.
Ha yep. More I've been thinking about it I'm guessing 6 has a bent lifter rod or, if it's really bad, a wiped cam lobe. The only way to find out is to pull the valve cover, like you said.
@@robbieshobbies93 I had to do a rough and tumble rebuild on a 258 for my Blue Hornet a few years back. Original engine wiped a lobe. But it was a 45,000 mile car. Other than some sparkly oil, we cleaned out the block, put in new bearings, a new oil pump, some new rings on the old pistons, dingle-ball honed the cylinders and stuffed in a new cam & lifters. For roughly $1200 bucks, the thing was back in and running great. Had 60 lbs of oil pressure at hot idle.
That's really cool. I really do like the inline 6's. My 232 with it running on only 4 cylinders, it start and idles beautifully. I kinda wouldn't mind getting another amc that is all stock just to drive around. Even a hornet with inline 6 would be a sweet car. Tons of room under the hood to work on even.

Ha I'm hoping it's going to be a hand full. That was my goal all along when I bought this car.
Sometimes decisions make themselves. I'm still enjoying your journey.
Thank you! I think it will all work out in the end.
Amc cool car 😄👍👍👏👏
Thank you!

Ok sounds good. Thank you.

Oh wow. I did not know that. That would be perfect for how often I would need it.
Run the 360 before you put it in, I hate doing a job twice
Yeah fair enough. I should try too.

Yeah that may be a difficult part of this. I'm planning so far to use the original crossmember and I'm hoping to make my own mounts.

Ah, gotcha. I'm sure it'll be alright. From the bits I've read online, it isn't that much of a challenge to make a set
Good to hear
